Tap an amiibo figure to guide 1 of 11 minis across more than 50 levels. Use minis and their unique abilities, like Yoshi who can eat enemies or Luigi who jumps to high places to reach the exit. But watch out! Mine carts, ghostly Boos and other new obstacles lurk around every corner.

Whether you're playing on a Nintendo 3DS or Wii U system, simply tap any compatible amiibo figure to get started. Or, by tapping specific amiibo figures, you can guide minis that have their own unique abilities and exclusive sets of levels. These specially designed, character-themed levels include their own look, remixed music and obstacles for you to master, which comes in handy the more you play. Earn in-game amiibo tokens with different minis to unlock even more difficult challenges.

Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge holds up well on 3DS, with the franchise at home on portable hardware. In a pinch we probably prefer playing on the hefty GamePad screen, but ultimately both versions of the game provide some solid amiibo fun at no extra cost. It's worth a spin on either system.

Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge basically amounts to a demo that can be completed in an afternoon and doesn't go far enough with its ideas, but it's a far better effort than the abysmal amiibo Tap.

It’s a good game, with some clever, creative puzzle design that takes the Lemmings-like inspiration for the series about as far as it would be possible to push it, and all those different amiibo special abilities do give a lot of variety to the puzzles, but it’s little nasty for Nintendo to hold back a full experience unless you’ve got over a hundred dollars worth of toys.

Fun, entertaining game to play in an afternoon. Hopefully there will be some more levels added in the future. I wouldn't mind the AmiiboFun, entertaining game to play in an afternoon. Hopefully there will be some more levels added in the future. I wouldn't mind the Amiibo levels so much, were it not for the fact some of them (like Bowser) have virtually no use outside of the game and Smash 4. I'd only buy Toad and Yoshi because I can use them for Treasure Tracker and Wolly World, respectively. Expand

First of all, you need one of them to start playing using that character. You basically go the linear path and in the meantime you unlock ten exclusive character worlds using compatible amiibos. Also, each of the compatible amiibo has a special power, but you will only see that power in the four-level exclusive world of that particular amiibo. Each amiibo’s main mission is to collect specific cards with their face on them, so you’ll have to replay the same levels with different amiibos to collect them all, which is far from appealing. Once you have enough cards, you will be able to unlock levels in the “special world”. These few levels are the only levels that will be challenging for most players. The rest of the levels are easy, although they combine different gameplay styles that we have seen in the series before. For example, you can put and erase pink blocks like in Mario vs. DK: Minis March Again. There are also new features that create a varied gameplay.

The soundtrack has some lazy remixes of classic Nintendo themes that will bring back memories of the more experienced players like myself. The visuals are simple and nice. You’ll need to hold the GamePad/3DS console with one hand and the stylus with the other hand, it’s that kind of gameplay.

If you only have one or two amiibo, this game is a long demo. If you have the ten of them that the game specifically requires, it's a short and easy game, except for a few levels of the special world. If you have many amiibos, the game is an easy recommendation as you don’t have to pay any more. If you are planning to buy amiibos for playing this game, just don’t do it.
