A striking action-packed shoot-'em-up that's up there with the best in the genre.

Liberation Maiden is an outstanding on-rails shooter worth its $8 price tag.

Liberation Maiden isn't Suda 51's crowning achievement or anything, but it is a simple, fun shooter with a clever offense-defensive mechanic and several coats of glossy finish. If you aren't bothered by the stick and stylus control scheme, you'll enjoy this hearty dose of anime mech action. Certainly, the remaining Guild01 games have a lot to live up to.

Liberation Maiden is a game that will see you involved in the struggles between mecha. Your mission is to free the Japanese cities.

Liberation Maiden is one of the best games on the e-Shop. The Grasshopper Manufacture's title convinces thanks to a precise control system and well paced rhythm.

Liberation Maiden is a solid shooter with top-notch presentation (the cut-scenes by anime studio Bones are superb) and frantic action. It's by no means the longest game in the world so only high score fiends will get the best out of it, but if you fall into that category this is well worth your £7.19.

Liberation Maiden is not that work of art you might have expected, but it has interesting basic approaches and the gameplay is well done.

With only five stages, it's hard to justify the price tag unless you intend to chase high scores. [Christmas 2012, p.91]
  9. A beautiful shooter hampered only by its being too small for the grand scale it implies. [Christmas 2012, p.96]

Liberation Maiden meets its goal as part of a package and never really goes beyond that.

Ideal for gamers who grew up with this genre. Spectacular, fast, fresh and fun, it offers some great moments, and, even if it's not a AAA game, we think it's a game everyone will enjoy.

I beat it in about 4 or 5 hours and didn't die a single time through the whole game until the last boss fight.
The gameplay, although very stylish and fun, is so easy and brainless that it all just seems pointless. And there is no real reason to play through the game again.
For 8 bucks, I don't know. I'd say it's worth it if you like anime and stuff.
Don't buy this if you are a hardcore fan of shmups. This is not for you. This is for causals and anime enthusiasts. You will not be challenged by this game, you will be insulted. You have been warned.

The overall production is astounding and the semi-rail movement is fun. The controls are similar to Kid Icarus: Uprising but with out the precision. Very well made, though I was expecting more, but still worth the price. Good for bus rides and queues. Full Review »

If you're going to dish out 8 bucks for this game, I highly recommend taking a look at gameplay videos to see if it's truly your jam. I managed to get it for 3$ (sale @ end of 2014), and have no regrets - in fact, it's one of my favorite 3DS eShop games. The gameplay is so solid, so cool, and so fast-paced that the fact that there are five levels doesn't really seem unappealing to me. The music is absolutely wonderful, particularly the first and last stage boss songs. There's variety in the missions, though the missions' true goal is pretty much the same. Submissions are nice, and yeah - good stuff. Anyways I'd totally buy this if you can get this during a sale. If not, think about whether or not you're ready for a jet packed, short self-version of a game like Kid Icarus (sky battles)!
