I think Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk accomplishes what it sets out to do. It’s more interactive visual novel than it is a typical vidoegame, but if you’re in the mood for a casual yet compelling experience that’s well written with a strong cast and solid presentation, you can’t go wrong here. The DS is the perfect platform for such an experience, and for those of us wanting to itch that Hotel Dusk/Last Window itch, Jake Hunter is a great option.

    First things first:
In my opinion this game delivers all the expectations I had from looking at the cover, reading the story and genre and knowing that this is a VISUAL NOVEL with a FEW INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS.

    Setting and Characters:
The story is set in Japan in our "modern" world, but (as the cover suggests) it has a "good old times" atmosphere to it.
For example our main character Jack Hunter, looking like a classic detective with his cigarette, fulfilling his role of being the strong man with few emotions. Then there is his assistant Yulia Marks, she fulfills the old dated role model of a secretary as it was some decades ago, she is caring and shows a lot of emotions.

Who will likely enjoy this game:
You will enjoy it, if you...
1.) ... enjoy text based games / visual novels as genre.
2.) ... are a patient gamer, with a long attention span.
3.) ... you enjoy detective games / crime stories.
4.) ... you are interested in games set in Japan in general.
5.) ... enjoy this game's OST ("In the Dusk 2", "Loose Truth", "Gathering Pieces")

    What stood out to me:
I absolutely adore the OST of this game, it covers everything from straight horror music to mysterious sounding tracks and helps losing yourself in this world.
But what I enjoy THE MOST is the laid back jazzy influence that relieves the tension after the dangerous intensive parts, it sounds like you are sitting in a bar, restoring your energy, but still thinking about the case.

    Playtime:
    - "Main" story ~ 12h
    - Each "Side" story ~ 4h
