Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy+

Thrilling mechanics, plentiful missions and robust unlocks make it the Top Gun for genre fans who own the system.

Ace Combat Horizon Legacy Plus is exactly what you want from the series: Ace Combat on the go. This new version isn't essential if you have the original 2011 release, but if you've never bought the game, the new Amiibo support and other features make the Plus edition the one to own.

A true example of how the 3D effect can enhance games, with both a compelling narrative and gameplay structure, and plenty of reason to take back to the skies after finishing.

A new revision of the classic dogfight arcade already released on Nintendo 3DS. Amiibo and New Nintendo 3DS compatibility are the best new “tricks” included.

This is a lazy port of a four year old game. The good news is: Assault Horizon Legacy was a good game back in 2011 and it's still enjoyable today.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy Plus is not a brand new game, but it tries its best adding more fun to the original title, working on the New Nintendo 3DS extra features. The Amiibo addiction is pretty useless, but the new dynamic 3D grants a new layer to this good experience.

This title won’t win any awards for ingenuity, but it will provide any gamers who like to casually call each other “Ice Man” and “Maverick” with plenty of bonehead blowin’ up fun.

If you haven't played Assault Horizon Legacy and you have a New 3DS, this is the version to get. The additions aren’t major, but this version is the definitive one, as long as you own a New 3DS.

A solid new entry in the beloved saga that presents some technical problems. New players will have a fun experience, but maybe, the veterans will complain about the design and game mechanics decisions.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+ is a minor and slightly cheeky update - despite Nintendo planes and amiibo support it's certainly not worth a double dip for those with the original.

Thankfully, the enhanced, head tracking New 3DS easily resolves this issue and makes playing either version of Assault Horizon Legacy with the 3D turned all the way up a much more accessible and enjoyable experience.

There’s not enough new material here to warrant an entirely new release and the minor additions would be better suited as DLC.

Still, it is a decent time for players that are new to the series or haven’t tried this game out before. Just keep in mind, those awesome moves you’re pulling off will get old eventually.

This is exactly the same game we played back in 2011 with tiny additions, like amiibo support. Although the game is good, there's no reason to buy a full-price game that only includes what could have been added with a regular patch.

Basically we have here the exact same game that we played four years ago, but with added Amiibo functionalities. It's still a fun game, but it's not worth the price of a new release.

In the end this game does manage to show off what some of the benefits of The New 3DS are, but the short gameplay length and shortcomings of the 2011 original that are still evident (e.g. pixely visuals when close to the ground environments) just can’t push this game into the realm of must have for The New 3DS.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus is a well made and entertaining flight action game. The only problem is that it is almost exactly the same game that was released three years ago, which means it is a relaunch of a three-year old game where the most notable addition is a higher price tag.

A good choice for users who did not play the original title, as it keeps its excellent soundtrack, accessible gameplay, easy customization and a good implementation of 3D stereoscopic effect. Unfortunately, it doesn't add outstanding stuff to the mix to justify a second purchase at full price besides its compatibility with amiibos and the C-Stick on the New 3DS.

The flying itself is decent, and greatly enhanced by the game’s outstanding soundtrack, but ultimately Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+ feels like nothing more than a poorly-disguised cash-grab.

With only a few minor additions, it's hard to recommend Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy+ to anyone but the most diehard of fans.

On the one hand it's an genuinely entertaining dogfighting sim on the Nintendo 3DS - a genre so rare that its only competitor is its predecessor. On the other hand re-releasing the exact same game and selling gimmicky Amiibo miniatures unlocks as the major new addition is... well, it's not exactly adequate. This kind of feature would be a $5 DLC add-on elsewhere.

An enjoyable and engaging entry in the series, and in the combat flight-sim genre. For returning players however there is very little new content here to warrant a purchase, unless you’re absolutely desperate to pilot a Samus Aran airplane in a fictional war.

There's just not enough here for entice anyone to double-dip or shell out the full price if you aren't a sim-junkie. While the publisher should be chided for releasing an iteration as rushed as this, they are lucky that the core package was already decent to begin with.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy was not an unforgettable game back in 2011, and this new edition adds very few elements to the mix.

It's a small overhaul of the original game, but owners of the "vanilla" version won't find many reasons to spill out further money on this one.

We expected a disappointment and Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy + fulfilled its targets. Being able to use the C stick and adding bonus skins pack with the amiibo clearly wasn't worth it. Especially when the game carries the same problems with it.

So unless you’re an absolute, die-hard, must own every Ace Combat release ever type of fan, then I’d highly suggest skipping this cash grab.

A tidy tester for your New 3DS’ excellent head-tracking 3D, but there’s too little for old hands to grasp onto. Even if you’re a first timer flyer it’s hardly a direct hit.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus will definitely appeal to aviation aficionados who happen to game as well, but not to many other gamers. Either way, the “Plus” feels like a misnomer—the title doesn't offer enough new or entertaining features to justify a full-price purchase point for a four-year-old marginally average game.
