The writers hung good writing on the wall of a burning house covered in gas before they wrote season 3 Young Justice.
Gender identity issues, sexual exploration, underage drinking and the list goes on. They literally wrote the story around these topics.

I love the first 2 seasons and have watched them many times so when this showed up I purchased it right away. Bad mistake, this season is so boring all talking and you just end up not caring about what happens. Why did DC WB decide to ruin this?

I get the fact that they opted out for more mature, political theme, but it fell flat. The show is unable to catch the viewer's attention for some reason. Even though, there's one main arc, i still can't figure out who's whom and what every hero's role is.

After the first 13 episodes it's clear the revived series is just a mess. Too many characters, too much spaghetti back story, and too much bloat. You'd do well to rewatch seasons 1 & 2 before season 3 just to clarify in your mind the version of the characters in YJ and how they differ from the DCCU, DCU, DC/CWTV, TTG!, etc.

Khary Payton voicing ANOTHER Young Justice character, someone peripheral to Cyborg this time, was fun. Unfortunately the multiple 'Booyahs' killed any subtlety the gag might have had.

Episode 12's spoof of Teen Titans Go! (Doom Patrol Go!) was almost a redemption, except it was too dark to actually be fun.

I am glad the series is back, but I would have liked the stories and cast to be smaller and more manageable.

Huge fan of the first 2 seasons because the cast and story line have dynamic, purpose and dramatic stakes. The story gets spread thin with unnecessary sub plots, and the structure of the show's past seasons sadly dissolves into a crab-man talking in third person.

It's almost a literal homage to South Park Crab People.

I might give it another shot once it becomes more readily available to stream, but season 3 (so far) does not live up to its past, or even its dark mysterious new opening theme...

YOUNG JUSTICE : SEASON 3 - The SJW. Boring as hell, they are just talking about social stuff all time. There was nice 2 seasons but now the show is dead

Aside from the fact that this show may have over done it a bit, aka S3 this time around being a bit over stuffed with having to act as a refresher as well as a foundation for new direction... I still would have shows like Titans and or other DC shows to take a few cues from Young Justice as a whole on how to write and endear characters and over arcing stories.

I still would have shows like Titans and or other DC shows to take a few cues from Young Justice as a whole on how to write and endear characters and over arcing stories.

TL;DR The character writing is still at it's Apex for all them which is the only reason the 'more than a few' stumbles are acceptable. Streamlining the plot for the upcoming season and not forgetting that we are an animated Super Hero show and not a CW Drama, meaning that imaginations are not restricted would really help. All in all slightly underWhelmed but hoping to get back to it's best.

An absolute Fanboy of Young Justice here, which is why even though this season was a bit under-'whelming' my bias for the show in it's totality made me take the score into the green.
I am extremely thankful for the show being revived thanks to the huge fan-base behind it, I would like the writers to bring back a little more of the fun and wit that was in spades during S1&2.
I completely understand that this season serves as a starting point for a new arc as well as being a refresher for people who did not watch the previous two seasons I would implore the writers to streamline the next season.
A little too many twists and turns and back stabs seem to be happening even though we have crossed such situations with more finesse and tact, hence it is expected that such double crosses would and should be seen from a mile away and should be dealt by the Team accordingly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Remember when the original team were the main characters? Season 3 doesn't because now it's about meta human trafficking, Nightwing's new team, Batman INC, Geoforce's country, Beast Boy's team, and Granny Goodness. I really wanted this season back in the day and now that I have it I wish it stayed cancelled. For one the plot is all over the place and the aftermath from season 2 is diminished because Greg Wiseman thought it would be great to do another time skip and have characters we actually care about develop off-screen while we get stuck with a new cast while the previous one was already pretty bloated. Barbara got paralyzed already, Kaldur became Aquaman, Lex got into the U.N. all happening off screen and ignoring Wally. Wally feels so underutilized because the season only brings up the aftermath of his death whenever Artemis is onscreen. Other than that he's barely mentioned by his best friends. Instead we have to deal with Halo's identity, introducing Cyborg, Lex quoting Trump, and other crap. Expand

The writing is extremely contrived, and it's simply insane how they manage to turn simple plot points and stories into highly engineered situations that suddenly are told to us in the form of exposition. So much **** happens offscreen and characters go out of their way to be devoid of logic?

There was this one scene where a whole bunch of characters were gathered in a single house in casual civilian clothing, and I could barely tell apart who was who. One of the characters in the house had drastically changed his appearance and suddenly had a kid? To top it all off, in another scene, suddenly one of the more prominent characters is gay and has a boyfriend that we've never heard of or seen before. That was one hell of a shocker to me since he supposedly went rogue when his girlfriend died. The show failed to do two simple things, which was establish that he was gay beforehand and tell us about his boyfriend. To put it into perspective, you open up a comic and see that Lex Luthor suddenly has hair and Superman's powers with literally no buildup or much explanation as to what happened. Most of what the show tries to focus on has zero relevance to the main plot. We can sum up what young justice does in two sentences. Establish something or someone --> Develop it for one or two episodes --> Abandon it for something else ---> Possibly do something that contradicts it later down the line

Why oh why? They inserted the everyone-hates world of politics into The Phantom Menace thereby securing it as the worst of the Three Trilogies. Yes, there are action sequences but they don't stand out in any way, the animation is pretty flat, the colors dulled/muted, not at all created for today's OLEDs and HDR fabulosity. Punt. Expand

That said, after having watched the first 3 episodes of season 3 i'm a bit disappointed. The Series is definitely darker which i think is a cool direction to go in BUT, what made the first two seasons great was how each episode told a different story that all tied into a larger story without the characters knowing. The over arching story of the light puppeting behind the scenes was awesome but so far there doesn't seem to be anything of the sort. In the same vein, each episode being a different story allowed different characters to shine but this season revolves around the same few people with little cameos from the others thrown in. The first 3 episodes all follow the same small story with no nods towards a bigger picture or much reference to the previous season's cliffhanger of Savage with the war world.

I'm super optimistic about the season getting better because it's not at all bad, it just lacks build and hopefully that will change. If i were only allowed to make one small change to the show however, i would demand that the old intro and outro come back. The new intro lacks the impact of the original and the outros make no sense in the context or tone of the show and kind of kill the mood of the show.

So in conclusion, I'm whelmed but optimistic

After a long hiatus, DC has revived Young Justice for a third season and it did not disappoint. Just a little precaution, it's more dark and mature than you think it is.

It's really incredible how Greg Weisman (director) was able to pick up the show right where it left off and make it feel so fluid. Also, the combat including the villain's actions seems more realistic as they are "out to kill". Don't get scared off though as it's still very much a teen/young adult show. All in all, I love the first few episodes and can't wait to see how the story turns out. Just so glad this show is back. Expand

This was the worst season I am stuck between giving this a 7 or 8. The main problem I have with this season it that the main character of this season violate is pretty boring but with this said I still love this season. The best moment was when Black lightning exposed Batman industries.

If you are already a fan of the show, good news: The odds are excellent you’ll like where they’ve taken it. For those of you just joining us, you might be OK if you are a thoroughly immersed DC Comics nut. If you’re new to these characters? Well... Netflix just released a nice reality program about finding yourself by cleaning out your closets. You might enjoy it.
