Wynonna Earp has something for everyone! Melanie Scrofano has proven herself a powerhouse capable of bringing depth, sincerity, humor, pain and levity to Wynonna in equal measure! Watch you won't regret it!

I'm honestly not sure what most people were expecting from this show, but all I know is I watched it after seeing a scene of Officer Haught introducing herself to Wynonna on tumblr and I've so far not been disappointed.

I'm honestly not sure what most people were expecting from this show, but all I know is I watched it after seeing a scene of Officer Haught introducing herself to Wynonna on tumblr and I've so far not been disappointed.

I think the best way to watch this show is to just not expect anything to come out of it at all. Please DON'T expect it to be a western, or another Buffy or even some twist of Jessica Jones.... Any of these assumptions going into it will probably lead you to not enjoy the show for what it is.

    So then, what is it?

Well the show so far is about the Great Great Great grandaughter of Wyatt Earp and also the shows namesake Wynonna Earp. There are some demons, a curse, family destiny shenanigans and its all based out in the middle of nowhere town called Purgatory.

The plot is a bit dis-jumbled at times, but I can't tell if that's just because its brilliant and all the pieces haven't unfolded yet, or if the writing is just a bit rough around the edges. Even with this as the case I've still enjoyed the episodes so far, a few eye rolls and groans were had but still pretty enjoyable over all.

The acting is a fascinating mix of 'Are you bad at acting, or are you really good at acting and this is -really- how the character is written?' I've ended up hating half of the supporting cast of characters (not in a 'I hate Edward Cullan' way more of a 'I really would prefer you weren't here and have no invested emotion in your character) but the other half I'm honestly intrigued by and want to learn more about. I feel a bit starved for their interaction at times, but not so much that I want to stop watching.

It doesn't have the best acting cast, not going to lie, but at the same time I've suffered through far worse and the acting isn't really bad so much as it is 'I'm used to seeing better'.

Actually I think that's what the root of the problem is, a lot of people are 'Used to seeing better' snippets of this show, Jessica Jones has a very similar personality to Wynonna Earp - the show's plot has a similar feel to Buffy (both as I've stated before) and as a result people are giving the show a resounding 'meh' or 'I've seen better' but what they are ignoring is that this is its own show. It needs time to develop and warrants being viewed as its own entity with its own cast and plot and uniqueness that we HAVEN'T seen before.

I've enjoyed several of the more witty lines the show has given, correctly guessed a few of the twist and turns presented in the episodes thus far, but I still have a feeling that something is going to bind this show together and make it great.

I am eager for a season two and will continue to watch season one for all 13 episodes.

I know, long review is long, but I just wanted to let everyone know how I feel and hopefully it helps others get a better idea of how I feel you should approach the show itself.

The more I watch this show, the more I like it. It's now in my top 5 current shows, along with Doctor Who and Orphan Black. The writing holds up to multiple re-watches. The characters are both mythic and relatable.

Delightfully campy, and Melanie Scrofano is excellent in the lead role. The special effects are par for the course for Syfy, but the mythology has a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the first two episodes, and I'm very excited to see where this show goes next!

Good story but very lacking in acting and simple common sense, Can actually become irritating. Lead's sister is horrible. I don't know if they wrote her character that way or its just her overall the producer must stink. I'm not saying it has to b believable but at least plausible.

This is a show made for people who've sustained rather severe head-injuries. The acting is at the level of a high-school drama-club, the characters are dumber than a bag of hammers, the plot has been stolen from Supernatural and Louis L'Amour and rewritten by someone from a call center in India, judging by the amount of sense and cohesion in it, and it's just plain boring. This show is a witty and modern take on a classic theme, with interesting characters and plenty of fun. It's like Supernatural meets Buffy with a little bit of Lost Girl. Also, I particularly enjoy the much needed and amazing treatment of "Wayhaught" with Waverly and Nicole's character development. Not to mention Wynonna's wit and feminist strength is much appreciated.

Wynonna Earp is a female Iron man with constant quick remarks, which will get tiring around the 15 minute mark of every episode. Except Kanye West who plays an agent of black panther or whatever it was called and Wynonna is trying to bang him constantly but he's not into her. Oh yeah and then there is the plot, which is that the government could tomahawk missile the entire site, but it's cheaper to hire a horny teenage girl to kill demons in public without any consequence. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The elements are all there, the question is, if picked up for season two, can they fill the holes. Plenty of good series, have a rough first season. Buffy, which this show is trying to be the modern version of, did not have the best first season.

Primarily, the writing needs to be tightened up. The writers are so focused on trying to get in mysteries and gotcha moments, that they are letting the main character development and story arcs slip. The whole pursuit of The Seven was weak and anti-climatic. It is built up to be this major story plot, so you would expect it to carry through the season, but then it just ends. Same with the Stone Witch story arc. They just seem to be half thought out, like the writers did not know where to go with them.

So many holes that are not properly teased, or filled. Why is the triangle there? There are other triangles? How do they get created? Are the like connected Hell Mouths? Why does the government not just evacuate the citizens of those areas, since they know the boundaries? What exactly is Constance, the Stone Witch, and why do we think burying her will keep her there? Because we all know that means she is coming back? Why has Wynonna not just shot Bobo in the head? There needs to be a more compelling reason to keep him alive.

This can all be fixed, the writers just need to treat their audience with a little more respect.

I have really enjoyed this season of Wynonna Earp. I think it adds something different and unique to the t.v. landscape. The characters are very well done and the story line is pretty good. I defiantly wish to see it renewed for a second season. Maybe in a different time slot would help the ratings. The show is worth at least one more season syfy. Please make it happen.

I gave it 3 episodes and it's just not good enough.
I don't mind mixing demons with a western kind of theme but it seems like tv producers try to mix demons/werewolves/vampires with all kind of other themes, it feels kind of desperate.
As other reviewers mentioned, the dialogue is not good. It keeps irritating me, like there's something wrong with it, but I don't know exactly why.

Like in other shows, plot development often relies on stupid behavior by one of the main characters.
The gun is found too easily, but once Wynonna has it, she handles it carelessly, even though it's important and powerful.
Plus, she's too trustful to a complete stranger in a bar who happens to be on the demon side.

And, guys, listen: If you want to make any sci-fi/fantasy show, you have to have more than 3 special effects.
    THREE!
    1. Red glowing eyes
    2. Red glowing cracks (kind of) in the demons heads and also on Wynonna's gun.
    3. When demons "die" the ground opens up and swallows them.

    That's it! Come ON!
It looks all far too low-budget. If you don't have the money, don't do sci-fi or fantasy!

Do you remember Firefly? It was a well done blend of sci-fi and western that was far superior to this show.
And how many seasons did it last? Yes, ONE. Think about it.

Very shallow and pointless story with jokey dialog. There is a market for this kind of thing, but their tastes are more conventional and probably aren't into the girl power thing. It's why the WNBA isn't popular. 2 points for the hot girl power lead (and deputy), 0 for everything else. Maybe I'll watch episode 3.

I love this show. A lot of the complaints seem to revolve around the lack of deep narrative and poor scripting but I wholeheartedly disagree, they have obviously based these assumptions on the first couple of episodes which are always a bit slow in this genre.
The story, admittedly begins slowly but really builds up a great momentum with lots of surprises and overarching storylines.

The characters are really well written and gel nicely together with a bit of a "something for everyone" kind of vibe. Wynonna is comical and sensitive but outwardly unemotional - very confrontational in a great way! Waverly is logically driven and endlessly sweet. Doc Holliday has a lovable rogue kind of persona and Dolls is a mysterious law enforcement type who secretly cares. Really great cast dynamic and character integration.

Give it a chance, it was fabulous - particularly the last few episodes.

I made it through the pilot, but just barely. The dialogue is atrocious; the writers were seemingly determined to get all the backstory taken care of in the first episode, leaving little room for anything but exposition. At least for me. xD I tried to take it seriously, but by the end of the second episode I'm ok with watching it just to unwind, like I do with other comedy series that don't require thinking. lmao Pros and cons to let you think a bit better about it.
Pros: nice scenarios, promising story, demons and people dying.
Cons: demons are stupid; the federal agent is as mysterious and shallow as any other character; the main character is as weak as she could be, until all of a sudden she becomes a bad ass, although there is no explanation why it happens; the worst killer ever, presented at the second episode moves as slow as a turtle and let two preys escape from him after being a foot from him, and in the second case the prey wasn't even seeing him and he waited until she turned around and God knows how she passed by him.
So... it's bad. But they are trying and I'll have some laughs watching it and saying "that can't be serious, come on".

When I started watching this show, I was just enjoying a campy romp; but a few episodes in I started to realize that the characters were real people that I cared about, ever more. Surely this show has genre trope, but the interactions are real. You come to care about the plot because it's going to affect the characters and you care about them.

This show passed the Bechdel test in the first scene!

The cast is really good, and they manage to register and play real emotions, while also delivering the goods on plain old entertainment. Main cast members Melanie Scrofano, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Tim Rozon, and Shamier Anderson stand out; just behind is Katherine Barrell's Officer Nicole Haught.

Things to love on this show: Sisters who act like siblings, but not like sibling stereotypes. Women who are people (and also kick ass). Marginal characters who surprise you (for good and ill) by actually having more going on in their heads than you thought (like Sheriff Nedley). Lots of twists and turns.

A great deal of attention has gone into the budding relationship between Wynonna's sister Waverly and Nicole -- as a positive, nicely handled, normal relationship between two people, who also have other roles in the story. I understand from reading reviews on the net how meaningful this has been for many gay women, who almost never see their identities represented on screen, and when they do, often as a one-note checkbox, with no other characteristics to make them memorable.

I've been envangelizing the show to many friends, and having pretty good success, even though many are doubtful at first. I was myself, not being a huge Western fan, and having seen a bunch of disappointing SyFy shows over the years.

I'm way out of "the demo." My daughter and her friends are in it, and now they are watching enthusiastically. The process reminds me of "Buffy", which I started watching from the pilot, but initially with a lot of skepticism; then I found myself re-watching the episodes repeatedly, and this is now happening with Wynonna. The build up to the finale was deliberate, and well constructed, and surprising, even if you were paying attention; with the addition of some new bombshell surprise elements, leaving me distraught even at the thought the show might not be renewed.

This show will repay your time, even if this is all we ever get to see (but it better not be!).

The one bad thing is that the demon death effects are pretty corny, but that's really _not_ what you should be watching episodic television for. That does do improve a bit, at least by the finale.

15 minutes is perhaps not much to go on, but that is how long it lasted. Though twenties girl with unruly history returns home to nowhere to confront demons literally and figuratively. I couldn't care less. Kanye West is the guy from the shady government agency that knows everything about the demons but despite the US having an army that could beat all the armies of all other nations put together(well more or less) it just sends one guy. I am not specifically a West lover, but his presence at least uplifts the movie.

So let's do some demon killing but as is consistent with shows like these that is just afterthought. Though chick series are a dozen in a dime, nowadays: Van Helsing, Bounty Hunters, Z-Nation, Jessica Jones. This series is not about killing demons of course. It is a drama series in which a though chick, now wised up, finds her place among the living while she fights her hormones that tell her to bang Kanye West.
The demons are therefor poorly done. They are simple people with red eyes being taped with fast movie effects. Cheap? Yep, cheaper that zombies and vampires even. It is possible.

Drama people. If you like that. Have fun.

I really enjoyed how Wynonna Earp focused on being a character driven story in an interesting western supernatural world without being historical or super male-dominated. The acting is great, the story is creative, and I was drawn in to seeing how it would all go down.

It's a good show. The story is here, the suspens too. Maybe I watch to much "normal activities" show and not enough western but sometimes the characters are a bit overplayed. But you know as the rest is really good you get use to it. You can call it the "cowboy play"

Wynonna Earp is a great show with something in it for everyone. The cast is fantastic! The characters are written and played with a lot of depth. The storylines are surprising and keep your attention. You wont regret it!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great concept and even though production quality is fairly low, I could ignore it for the fun monster-bashing story line with a fatalistic endless personal tragedy vibe.

I could do without the teenage lesbian theme though which showed up later in the series, and extremely clumsily put together; at that. I mean they just barely avoided having both girls stop and gasp-eyed "Squeee!" at each other like you find in the cheesiest anime cartoons.

I get it; you want to be "edgy" or cater to the anti-hetero movement taking Hollywood hostage, but you could have done that in an episode or two rather than make a dynamic that only happens in 3% of the population a staple of the show. because I like the rest of the show, i just skip through those parts and it doesn't even hurt the story at all, it's like the whole thing is just a ploy added to please the hollywood powers the be which demand you bow at the LBGT altar rather than simply tell a good story. That was never in the comics, and because it doesn't fit there and was never part of the story architecture, it doesn't belong and looks extremely contrived.

So I'll continue to skip your extremely shallow gay scenes and move on with the rest of the story, but points way off for sacrificing a solidly good story line for a poorly done cheap thrill. If you were truly serious about that angle, you would have spent more time and thought into the writing and plotting of it beyond the inch-high puddle-stomp that you have created.

I love the take on the Doc Holiday character too. Nice touch. See? There was an addition where some serious thought went into it and it works... As Will Smith would say: "See? Do that! Now do that like, all the time!" Now that's how you make an addition to a story that make sense and shows a lot of thought and effort.

Overall this series can be entertaining but enough with the lesbian and gay characters! Average viewers don't need to see that thrown in their face every episode. I think I've seen more same sex kissing than hetero. This is supposed to be a small town, and you have over half the cast in a same sex relationship. Don't get me wrong, I don't have an issue with an occasional same sexOverall this series can be entertaining but enough with the lesbian and gay characters! It’s all a bit fuzzy, but then it’s all in good fun. Television has plenty of room for strong female characters.

If it all sounds a little by-the-numbers, it is. But part of the fun of both Westerns and pulp revenge stories is setting up the tropes to play with them later, so Wynonna Earp could just be getting a few things out of the way before the shenanigans really get started.

The premiere episode jumps into the action and atmosphere immediately, though it takes a little while for the show settle in to what is a very fast-paced story. But by the second episode, it’s already found its rhythm.
