Why do some TV shows feel that they need to interject politics into their scripts? When this show first debuted years ago I watched on a regular basis and thought it was one of the best-acted comedies that had come along in years. This is why I felt let down after the first episode of the re-make. After saying all of that I still think that Jack and Karen are a riot to watch.

This was the worse premiere ever. I used to love Will & Grace ...now they are so political...I wanted to enjoy watching a funny show and all it did was annoy me.....

The first episode was too political indeed, but still very very funny. That scene when Grace use a cheetos to see if Trumps colors match with the new curtains is hilarious. Said that, the second and specially the third episode is just the good old Will & Grace sitcom that I've loved all this years.

I was really looking forward to this 2017 W&G. But what a disappointment it was. They are trying so hard but that is just the problem. So #sad.
I'll give a couple more episodes. Hopefully that will make it less slapstick and more witty comedy.

Never meet your heroes and don’t bring back a classic. This worked when the characters were younger. One would think they might have grown up a bit and learned something along the way. Loved Eric in Perception, thought Debra was decent in her recent cop show. Don’t expect the Karen and Jack characters to get better-they’re just comedic filler and couldn’t carry a show on their own. This reboot could work if the scripts get a lot smarter and the characters get a lot more developed. I wrote this critique before I watched episode 2 and here comes a storyline abut their age. These characters haven’t learned anything about themselves over the years and that is more than a little sad. Frankly, the scripts of both episodes were at fault. Too much obvious gay stereotypes and weak political commentary, not enough smart writing.

Sad to see this is already renewed for a 10th and now an 11th season. Too bad network executives prematurely made this decision. Guess it can be reversed if the bad reviews continue and audience share keeps dwindling. Come on, we deserve better than this!

Addendum: Still very little to justify bringing this back. It just doesn’t work when years have gone by and they act like nothing has been learned and nothing needs to change. The one recent episode was a shameful attack on Trump and all things conservative. Beneath contempt and poorly written. Even the non-political plots are shallow and weak!!

Really looked forward to the new Will and Grace. I saw the first episode and was disappointed. The whole episode was one "one liner" after another. It did not feel like they were telling a story. Lost my interest and I don't plan to watch it again.

It really shows a lack of respect from everyone involved in creating the show to portray the president in such a low way and revolve a whole show around in.

Sadly, I took this show off my DVR list after the first disappointing episode.

I loved the first episode, it's looking really good so far and they are stepping up their game. I laughed through most bits. The current US presidency is so easy to make fun of and they chose the best parts, ha ha. I can't wait for the next episode, it's going to be great!

I am really loving the new season. The first episode was like they where searching which way they should go, but after that.. I am really enjoying it and the humor in it. I also like that they have each episode a little learning experience in it. I can't wait to see more of it. Excellent. 10/10

I loved this show when it was first on. Couldn't wait for this release. Why did the narcissism not bother me back then? These characters are so full of themselves. It feels at times like they might be channeling their real life personalities. Will not tune back in.

I give this a 7 only out of nostalgia. I am hoping that the problems that I see with the 1st new ep will correct themselves. While the writing was good for a standard ep of Will and Grace, it felt like the actors were off in their comedic timing. This is forgivable as they have had other roles in the 11 years since the show ended and it does take time to get that flow back. I am sureI give this a 7 only out of nostalgia. I am sure that given time they will find their footing again as a cast and get it back on point.
I did say that it is good writing for a standard Will and Grace show, as it stood 11 years ago. I can get over their children being written off as being a drug induced dream of Karen's. Plot means little when it comes to a sitcom. However, they have all aged. Which is only natural and they still look good for their ages. However, as characters, I need to see some character development that reflects this reality. Jack cant continue to be the young, bubbly gay male he was 11 years ago. I worked in a gay bar for years and have seen the end result of a Jack type person. This could open him up to be more snarky and **** as his flamboyant lifestyle meets the reality of age. It could even turn the tide of the humor as now Will can put down Jack easier. Karen can be Karen. She is embalmed by all the liquor she drinks and needs not age. Though humor in her meeting age head on could be quite humorous. Will and Grace seem to be the two characters that show some development, but its too early to tell.
All in all, I enjoyed the first ep minus the things I stated, which do stand out considerably. I do believe the comedic timing will correct itself, but the actors are only as good as the script they read. My main concern is the script and how it deals with the actual characters within the story. If they try to re-create that "old magic", they may miss opportunities to create "new magic" and flop instead.
I whole heartedly wish them the best of luck as Will and Grace is one of the better sit-coms in TV history and one of my favorites.
I am hoping this show gets its comedic timing back and the writers "grow up" the characters a bit with humor that reflects that. In which case I will score it higher. I have faith in the actors, not sure about the writers.

This was a legitimate reboot of a show I liked in the first place. It certainly isn't as groundbreaking as it was originally, but the characters are still interesting and relatable. Here in San Diego we do have conservative Republican gay politicians, so I found Will's predicament believable.

It's pretty much the exact same show it was back then except now in a world where Grindr exists. This is how you do a show revival properly. At first I thought 'uurgh stop with the political jokes' but they were actually well done jokes. And now they have got the political jokes all out of the way in the first episode they can move on from there.

When a series returns and you don't like it as much as the original it can be hard to know if it's because the reboot is worse or simply because your taste has changed. So in reviewing the new Will and Grace, I don't know whether to say, "this has gone way downhill" or "was this always this bad?"

I'm leaning towards the former. It feels like the W&G reboot is like a middle-aged guy

So in reviewing the new Will and Grace, I don't know whether to say, "this has gone way downhill" or "was this always this bad?"

I'm leaning towards the former. It feels like the W&G reboot is like a middle-aged guy dressing in the club clothes of his youth, looking the mirror and saying, "still got it." The characters seem frozen in time, along with their jokes, which feel very much like the product of a 80s comedy writer who hasn't watched any TV since. It's all a little depressing.

I was ready to give up after one episode, but my girlfriend thought we should give it a second chance. After the second we were in agreement; it has little going for it beyond nostalgia.

Since most of the really harsh metacritic reviews are whining about all the Trump jokes, I want to specify that my complaint is not that the show is "too political" or "too anti-Trump." One of my favorite sitcoms is Veep, and as far as I'm concerned all comedies should make constant jokes about Trump just to remind people that we have a monster in the white house.

I just want those jokes to be funny. And very little in 2017's W&G is funny.

The show is just as hilarious, if not more so, than it was when it was first on the air.
For the right winglets who leave negative comments to a show, ONLY because it represents gay characters, or had one political episode, may MY review wipe yours out.
You DIDNT win. NONE of us did.
And that’s why having Will & Grace back at a time like this, is nothing short of perfect timing!!!

A spectacular show. I never watched it before because it started before I was born but this season is hilarious. The cast all gave stupendous performances especially the four leads Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally, Debra Messing, and Sean Hayes. The writing is on point and hilarious.

Please...the laugh track on Will and Grace is terrible. When there was no audience laughter I enjoyed the jokes more. The show is the funniest going right now. Stop telling me where to laugh.

Essentially, the gang of four does what they did best, shooting zingers at one another, getting into social and romantic pickles, and dancing around the stage like loonies, all while the audience cackles.
