    Miss Ragnar and Rollo. Show is not as good with out their strong presence. Found the first episodes slow. Episode 3 picked up somewhat, but there are only three strong characters left in the series and they are having a hard time holding the series to the same high standards. Still love Lagatha, Bjion and Floki, but the series needs more. Ivar is good, but doesn't come close to replacingMiss Ragnar and Rollo. Show is not as good with out their strong presence. Still love Lagatha, Bjion and Floki, but the series needs more. Ivar is good, but doesn't come close to replacing Ragnar and Rollo.     This season of Vikings, so far, has been a mixed bag for me. While it does have some fun episodes, it fails to deliver when it comes to story progression and character development. Also, the acting can be weak at times. And, seriously, episode 10 was such a letdown. I do understand what the creators were trying to do with that episode, but their idea for it was so poorly-executed. MyThis season of Vikings, so far, has been a mixed bag for me. My feelings are conflicted for this first half of the season, however, if the second half of this season fares better (or, hopefully not, worse), then I will change this rating.     Started out okay, went slowly downhill throughout (poor writing, character inconsistencies, fast travels) and got completely ruined by episodes 8 and 9.
    Big disappointment, was a big fan of the show and believed it could work without Ragnar - but it is just a mess.

    This new "era" of vikings are not compared to the previews characters in the first seasons. They were much more complex and way more emotional which gave us interesting roles in the series. Nowadays all this new characters are so simple that they seem to be apes just desiring either power or fame.     The show starts its new season out with a BANG, really starting with a new story but also having it feel like the old vikings show we used to love. great build up on old and new characters very excited to see what's in store for the new season of vikings.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show is starting to lack creativity. 'Let's invade England and fight the Wessex King', we've seen that before. The bishop-fighter guy is a good actor and an interesting character, but that's the most interesting thing going on in the Wessex storyline. The royal sons all look alike and won't live long probably.
    But my main concern is: there are no likeable or relatable characters left. Ragnar's sons are very one-dimensional (the psychopath, the clueless, the follower and a dead one). I don't get this Ivar character and why everyone acts so weird around him. For example: how can you axemurder your brother and everyone seems to be okay with it? Let's just continue our journey to Wessex for Odin's sake? And what does Ivar actually do, except racing around aimlessly in his chariot and acting mad? Is this 'strategic genius' so respected because he came up with the idea for some guerilla warfare instead of storming the enemy straight ahead?
    The characters were so well written the previous seasons, but this season they are just as one-dimensional as the sons. Floki is having a existential crisis that just drags on. Lagertha is queen and that's about it. Bjorn's brother is murdered, but still he only wants to travel around. The Nordish king and his sidekick have the emotional complexity of a 5-year old: 'me want woman' or 'me want glory'.
    What's up with Rolo? I loved his goofy new hairstyle and the awkwardness in the French court. Like Ragnar, he was a very complex and interesting character.
    I hope that the show will surprise us story wise. Otherwise it will be a medieval version of The Boring Dead.    … Expand

    The first two episodes were kinda lackluster but the show really picked up from the 3rd episode onward. I love Alex Anderson's performance as Ivar and the battles has been fantastic so far, also Lagertha continues to be a fantastic character.     So far quite boring. The "genius" strategies of psychotic Ivar keep working because of the blunt imbecility of his enemies, which continue to wear paper armor and rubber swords, while standing passively around, waiting to get killed by the heroic vikings. So it "works" like the 4 seasons before. This time at least the Heahmund and the Aethelwulf guy seem to have bought real weapons and canSo far quite boring. So it "works" like the 4 seasons before. This time at least the Heahmund and the Aethelwulf guy seem to have bought real weapons and can then and now kill some otherwise invincible vikings. They should have bought some intellect as well, but obviously they ran out of budget and have to fall for every trap that even a complete retard would have noticed.
    You spice that up with way exaggerated cruelty, lack of any moral integrity of anyone and ready is the dish of this hard to swallow something.

    Next time try to come up with some interesting story, characters that are not a total cliche of the immortal viking warriors and a little bit of realism and there you go.
    Otherwise, repeating the obvious flaws over and over again, make it more and more boring.    … Expand

    All the cool things are gone. Nobody has fun anymore. Only sorrow, hate and intrigue. I am so disappointed. A pity.

So many things wrong with this season I don't even want to talk about it. Season 5 needs to be called something else because it's not Vikings, it's just trash with trash writing. Do not watch this season!!!! Go on YouTube and watch Bjorn become King and watch Ubbe fight a Dane King. Those were the only good things in season 5. But everything else was garbage.… Expand

    Lacks the earlier intensity with the adventures of Ragnar and Lagertha remains one of the few characters I am interested in. A mixed bag but an improvement on last season.

    So many awesome action scenes. I have thing for fight scenes and this season has the best out of all the seasons.
