This is a brilliant show. I was put off watching it a while ago because of the GOT lite tag I'd seen in some lazy review until a friend recommended it recently. Trust your friends! There's nothing lite about it. It's all story and action without the laborious and pretentious intrigue building of some other shows. Great acting and fascinating characters make it easy to watch.

Honestly, it's brilliant. LOVE the characters, the progression, the plots, the acting, the scenery. It's the best show out there.

season 1-3 are exceptional. season 4 is slow and has alot of filler episodes. S04E06 actually skips a battle scene ffs. As usual , something that started great , is now being watered down to stretch content...wish writers would learn what the chase is and how to cut to it already. because of season 4 im taking my score from a 9 to a 7

The opening of Vikings was great. I love history and seeing it come to life with this show is amazing. I like the beautiful landscapes that they film in and the interesting characters. It is such an awesome show and I look forward to watching the next seasons.

Ragnar is my favourite character of all time. Travis Fimmel is so good as Ragnar. The story is really about Ragnar and his family. He is a simple Viking and a farmer. He want's to raid new lands with his brother Rollo and other Vikings. This is how the story starts out. You see him and how he's a family man. His wife Legetha and son Bjorn are great characters as well. Floki is a funnyRagnar is my favourite character of all time. Travis Fimmel is so good as Ragnar. A great series with compelling characters and intense plot, the only letdown is the clearly limited budget for the bigger scenes

A great historical ressambles of the viking time. The characters are great and so is the story. I didn't, however like the last 3 episodes because there didn't happen a lot. However they are a build-up for the second season, and therefore I can look over it.

It's awesome to see a show that respects historic aspects like rituals, religion disputes and politics on a ferocious level. Acting is done excellent, and this season doesn't drag out unnecessary by only doing 8 episodes instead of more. Very enjoyable to watch, immersive and intriguing.

I give it a 9/10, it is an impressive first season for a show.

It is a good show, well done and with a good narrative.
However, since historical figures like Ragnar Lothbrok, Rolle, king Ecbert, king Aelle and many more appear together with historical locations, why then change a few historical facts.

The raid on Lindisfarne for instance, happened in 793 and the siege of Paris was in 845. It is highly unlikely that Ragnar Lothbrok was present at both events.
Rollo was born in 846, so he could not have taken part in any of these two raids. And he could for obvious reasons not have been the brother of Ragnar.
Kattegat is not a town in Norway, but the strait between Denmark and Sweden.
Hedeby was a settlement in the south of Denmark in modern days German state of Slesvig-Holsten.
Ragnar and Rollo were not from Norway, but from Denmark. Ragnar was a Danish king or chieftain, and Rollo was from the Danish island of Zealand.
In fact there were no kingdoms in Norway until the end of the 9th century. And very little earldoms if any at all.
Most of the Vikings at this early state of the Viking age lived in Denmark and Sweden.
So why place the Viking settlements of this show in Norway, and have Ragnar and others talk about being kings of Norway?
When they've got so many persons, locations and events right, why then these annoying inaccuracies. It would have been equally inaccurate, had they placed king Ecbert in Ireland or the Moors in Italy.

Clever, subtle, tongue in cheek humor. Think Game of Thrones/Vikings with a sense of humor. Excellent chatacter development and the plot lines are creative and move at the right pace.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great starter from a TV show that promises great things. Storytelling is a bit slow, but scenes, characters and evolution are top. Next seasons are promising.

A solid and entertaining first season for Vikings, a genre that suprisingly has been largely ignored over the years.
Plenty of promise to build on in the future.

Vikings is at least fun to watch, in a sword-swinging, head-chopping, maiden-despoiling sort of way.

Hirst cleverly weaves a mystical element into the plot, which pays off with each episode. And he throws in plenty of battle scenes to please bloodthirsty fans.
