The plot looks very interesting and I like the art style. Don't listen to the racists, sexists, misogynists and trolls that are bombing the show. I'm glad they green-lit a second season because it is really a pretty fun show. I don't get the massive amount of hate it is receiving.

Honestly I don’t understand the intense backlash to this how. It’s not as good as Harley Quinn and has a few less than rad jokes, but it’s overall very enjoyable and pretty funny. My guess is people feel the need to be extremely critical of women of color and that’s why white men can play the same character over and over, but Mindy Khaling gets insane hate for it. nah it's not as bad as everyone is saying. There is some funny parts, but I mean it is a very left leaning cartoon but it isn't as bad as people are saying. I don't know exactly who this cartoon is for, maybe like a teenager. It's just ok but it isn't the worse thing I've seen.

If you go into this show with the mentality that it's a troll made by family guy wannabes, it's actually half funny to laugh off the pure incompetence of it. The jokes and the "comedic" nature of the show is just stupid and uninspired. So many meta and allegory type jokes, I really expected some literal cutaway gags.

It is unrelentingly 'woke', in every negative meaning of that word - it's the culmination of every travesty that's been released in the last ten years, distilled into the purest form of awful. It's aggressively unfunny throughout and has a bizarre hatred of the source material that seeps through the screen as you watch it; I shuddered at one point watching it.

It exists solely to animate Mindy Kaling as Velma and nobody had the balls to say no to her at the studio.

I wrote a review after viewing the first episode, but Metacritic deleted it. So I'll try again... What would the creators of Scooby-Doo think about what they've done to the franchise with this show? Bland, tasteless, unfunny trash that can't go five minutes without spewing snark, bigotry, anti-white, or misandrist "humor". This is the kind of show that makes one wonder if Mindy Kaling was EVER funny... and the answer is no. If one goes back and evaluates her writing credits, it's obvious the only brand of "humor" she knows is playing victim and putting down others. "Poor me, look at me, I'm a minority and a woman and everyone else is evil and beneath me" -- this is Kaling's one-trick-pony and is evident all the way back to her writing work on The Office.

Maybe the animation can save it? Alas, no. This is the laziest animation I've seen in YEARS. An absolute insult to the legacy of the Scooby-Doo franchise.

Don't waste your time with this garbage and HBO Max, if you ever read this, do the entire world a favor and do not renew this. Or ever greenlight anything involving Mindy Kaling again.

For the most part, Velma is a really bad reboot of the Scooby-Doo series. There are so many lame jokes and painful attempts at meta-humour that it feels like a cheap parody you would find on YouTube in 2008, not to mention the absence of Scooby, the barely recognizable returning characters, their missing charm and the overuse of stereotypes for humour like it's the 1960s.

This show, in my honest opinion, was the biggest letdown of the entire series since the introduction of Scrappy-Doo back in '79.

It takes exactly 48 seconds to set the tone (and it's not a good one) of the show. After that, it's all downhill. It's like the creators of the show just threw their personal frustrations in the show.

The writing isn't good but the direction and pacing of this show are awful. Everything happens so fast. There's no beats for punchlines, just on to the next "jokette." The characters are incredibly unlikable including (maybe most of all) the lead. I only made it through 1.5 episodes.

Everything feels out of place. The main characters all look like they were ripped from different animated shows, Their personalities are as stereotypical as you would expect, and the show tries desperately to be "edgy" when it honestly isn't. It desperately is trying to be what the Harley Quinn animated show was able to be and it pathetically fails to do so. Avoid this, Go watch the other, far superior Scooby-Doo shows.

As a series, Velma is completely incomprehensible. For whom is the series intended? What is the point of the series? Do the creators of the series have personal frustrations? Even if I went on with these questions, there would still be a question left. My last question would be :D Who allowed it and why?

A hateful, uninspired, unfunny, and painful watching experience. This show would never have been made if it wasn't for the Scooby-Doo IP take that away and it has no leg to stand on. The only thing remotely good about the show is the animation wasted on this stinking pile.

I gave this one episode. I couldn't make it 10 minutes. Rapid-fire unfunny jokes (literally 100 jokes per minute, all terrible) and really poor animation combined with weak censored nudity equal a real POS show. For anyone who can make it the entire season, you deserve a free happy meal.

They have TWO entries ("Velma - TV Show Reviews - Metacritic" and "Velma: Season 1 - Metacritic") to hide the real backlash. This just reset the bar about two points lower than Blood Origin and She Hulk. So make sure to visit the other entry and post your review as well so they do not get away with this.

Fred I would recognize by looks but he is dumb down to incompetent moron. I feels so different that I would not be surprised if this was something completely different before they added the Scooby-Doo name. I loved the Scooby-Doo cartons as kid and have watched dozens of episodes. With this the show feels like an insult in comparison. To be fair the animations are good and the voice actors deliver their roles. I would not hold a bad script against a voice actor or actor. The script and changes are the main source of the problems. Do not pull out the misogyny or racist defense as this is not the case. We nerds like strong female leads like Ellen Ripley, Buffy, the original Velma, Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh and many more. Diversity is neither a problem. I like Peter Grant, Rozie Oshodie, Michelle Yeoh and many other characters. A bad show is just a bad show. Look at “House of Dragons” for comparison how they silenced the critics with awesome characters, a great story and a huge entertainment value. Overall I have to give a 0/10 which pains me for a Scooby-Doo show but there was no other choice. Expand

Velma is an often funny take on the classic Scooby-Doo series with plenty of risqué humor. But it’s unfortunate that most of what makes Velma funny is completely unrelated to the character who gets a starring role.

The show actually is misogynist, and totally devoid of nuance. ... Velma’s mistakes might be forgivable if it was at least funny. But it’s not. And so, we’re left with a show that makes no one laugh and makes everyone mad, and doesn’t even have a great theme song.
