this was so average guys, the plot is super boring, the acting bad, the jokes don't land, who was this made for? who greenlighted this?...I can't recommend this with so many good Syfy shows out there.

A scrappy joy of a show, that doesn't let it's clearly limited budget slow it down.

In this new comedy sci-fi show on SyFy, we follow space scavenger/deposed princess Elida (Adriyan Rae) as she deals with forces that want her dead.

This was a lot of fun. The audience is subjected to a humorous and bright and colorful world.

This was a lot of fun. The audience is subjected to a humorous and bright and colorful world. However, it also has a strong dramatic side. The pacing is really well-paced. Nothing feels drawn out. The plot and backstories are well-handled. Elida and villain Commander Lazaro (Paul du Toit) particularly have strong origin stories with the latter's being particularly unique. The show's soundtrack has a pretty strong beat to it. Several of the sets and makeup feel on the cheap, but it all looks pretty good for a show on a limited budget, and I admire it for being ambitious. Although this doesn't happen all the time, Vagrant Queen has moments where it pulls off some spectacularly violent fight scenes.

Unfortunately, this is almost certainly not getting a second season. The viewership for the first few episodes were so low that the show got bumped to AFTER the primetime block. I can understand this not being someone's cup of tea; it's the surprisingly large disinterest after the first episode that leave me confused. I had a great time.

Can't help but think that SyFy has cancelled so many better shows, but they probably cost more. Anyway, Vagrant Queen is fairly entertaining and perhaps even enjoyable if you go into it with low expectations. Expand

This is not hard science fiction. It's barely even soft science fiction. At any moment you might expect Ming the Merciless to pop in and people to be able to breath in space.

Ridiculous and campy with a 'Fifth Element'-style science
This is not hard science fiction. It's barely even soft science fiction. At any moment you might expect Ming the Merciless to pop in and people to be able to breath in space.

Ridiculous and campy with a 'Fifth Element'-style science fiction vibe, it could have been good if it wasn't so vile.

Acting is average for a TV show of this level, effects are fair, the humor is more groan than laugh, and the plotting and backstories are completely unoriginal.

While the lead, Elida, seems Mary Sue bestest at everything, it does come from training, not the magic of identity politics. Unfortunately, that can't be said for every other female character on the show who are magically gifted at everything.

Oh, and of course, all the men are evil, incompetent or stupid.

There are some shining moments. Episode 8, 'No Clue', is a joyous tribute to (of all things) the 1985 movie 'Clue'.

On the whole, it's just too painful to sort through this series looking for the few redeeming moments.
