Jul 1, 2012Very good adaptation with a modern flavor. Cast is exelent and the story focus more on mindgames than action; tough some of the action scenes are pretty good after the crew reach the island. I'm a big fan of the book and I think the new characters and subplots add to the novel, It's a refreshing way to remember a childhood classic, or to know it for the first time.

The production details and Stewart Harcourt's script are quite effective, but the film's pacing is too drawn out.

The adaption takes liberties with Stevenson's tale that some will find unforgivable. But viewers open to experimentation will enjoy simply seeing if they agree with the choices the filmmakers made in their what-if game.

If for the most part this Treasure Island does not shiver my timbers, at a running time of three hours (four with ads), some things are bound to work, if only by the law of averages.
