    I enjoyed the Breaking Bad episode, but there's a serious problem with the format. You have 7 or 8 guests and a host on a 30 minute program with commercials. Not NEARLY enough time to get into anything of true substance. It felt like everything from the Breaking Bad episode was already discussed in the Entertainment Weekly article about the same program. And when you have guests thatI enjoyed the Breaking Bad episode, but there's a serious problem with the format. You have 7 or 8 guests and a host on a 30 minute program with commercials. Not NEARLY enough time to get into anything of true substance. It felt like everything from the Breaking Bad episode was already discussed in the Entertainment Weekly article about the same program. And when you have guests that have written amazing episodes (like George Mastras who wrote/directed the train robbery episode of BB season 5), I want to hear from them. With just 22 minutes to work with, the host needs to elicit the strongest information from the most important writers.… Expand

    The host is unnecessary. Besides the fact that he is quite annoying, he continues to inject himself and his experience into every conversation. Shoo. More of the writers, less of the host. So much of each show is giggling over small talk, all injected by Jim Rash, the host.

    Dean of his trade.
    Jim Rash does a good job at keeping the show tight and knows to ask the right insightful questions but the format isn't that entertaining

    Each episode is essentially a glorified DVD box set extra, but fun and informative enough to appeal to anyone interested in the increasingly respected field of TV writing.

    As produced it is more like a trip to the zoo, with the scribes imported into a set that suggests a writers' room (white board, bulletin board, index cards, big table, coffee) as a lion cage might simulate the veld. Even so, it feels like a glimpse of the real thing. Rash makes an excellent host-moderator.

    The Writers' Room winds up more anecdotal than explanatory. Heavily edited/compressed, it makes for a breezy half-hour if not necessarily revelatory disclosure, at least in the three episodes sent for review.
