This show really was embarrassing. It is clear the writers don't care about the material and don't care about entertainment. Everyone involved should be ashamed.

Not to mention all badly adapted references to real life inclusion. Nothing against race or gender discussions, but there are better places to do this kind of stuff. This short 4 episodes series was atrocious atempt to change the original story and was a complete failure in doing it.

The show completely fails to fit into the established lore and disregards the rich history and complex world-building of the original series. The characters are poorly developed and lack the depth and nuance of their counterparts in the original series. The plot is convoluted and confusing, and the dialogue is clunky and unnatural.

The world-building is inconsistent and lacks the attention to detail that made the original series so captivating. The special effects are subpar, and the fight choreography is uninspired and unimpressive. The soundtrack is forgettable, and the sets and costumes feel cheap and uninspired.

In conclusion, "Witcher: Blood Origin" is a failure on every level, and a major disappointment for fans of the Witcher franchise. It fails to capture the magic and complexity of the original series and instead delivers a poorly executed prequel that fails to fit into the established lore. I would not recommend this show to anyone, and it is a testament to the show's creators' lack of understanding of what made the Witcher franchise so beloved in the first place.

This has nothing to do with The Witcher. It’s just a horribly cringe generic fantasy, produced for an “ultra liberal audience”, to reflect “the modern world in witch we live today”, and lecture the public on “progressive ideas”. Seriously, I’ve watched fantasy B movies way better than this flaming pile of foul dejections. There is no redemption for this show. Blood Origins is a preachy cluster of woke tropes with strong Neo-Marxist undertones. This is not Sapkowski’s Witcher, instead you get almost the entire “progressive agenda”, masquerading as a fantasy series. The writing is beyond atrocious, it’s lazy and uninspired, self centered and illogical, a total creative bust. The story is terrible, full of cliches, plot holes and sluggish conveniences. The characters are unimaginative stereotypes, wooden cutouts without any real development, placeholders to spread “the message”. The acting, for the most part, is either subpar or right down awful. The costumes and sets are amateurish at best. The CGI and VFx are dreadful. The soundtrack is insipid, and the songs belched by the cast are cringe and annoying. In conclusion, Blood Origin is one of the worst, if not the worst, mainstream fantasy TV series I have watched…so far. DO NOT waste your time with this inept dumpster Expand

I feel sorry for the actors that are trapped in the script especially Michelle Yeoh who is awesome. It does not much resemble the books or games which to be fair is not a receipt for disaster per se. Unluckily the plot and script are not that good. Like I said it is generic and feels like a D&D adventure story quickly constructed. Also it feels like they cut parts out of the story and it seems like that is even plausible (I read it should have been 6 episodes which were cut to 4). By the way nothing in the world seems Elven. It is set 1000 or more years before human arrive (Dwarfs, Gnomes and other races were there even before both other races if I remember correctly). They look, feel and act like humans that have pointy ears. A huge waste of potential. I will not blame the actors. They did the best they could and even the best actors cant save a bad show or lets say completely turn the tides. The saving grace is the soundtrack which is enjoyable. Overall you should avoid this and play the games or read the books instead. Expand

(I've played every Game and read every book) Right now, there are a lot of things about the Witcher Netflix adaption (mostly season 2) that I can't understand. The show is based on a book, but they don't follow the book. The Witcher Blood Origin isn't based on a book. The Conjunction of the Spheres is not even described in the book. The show is a fan fiction with lazy writing, mostly bad characters and sometimes ugly CGI. But there are also some gorgeous nature shots, and the whole world collapsing story line makes sense. The show is not that bad, but it's also not good. It's a forgettable the Witcher and a mediocre fantasy show. I've enjoyed a few episodes, and I'm glad that I've seen it. The landscape was beautiful and the costumes well done. But please don't watch the show for the plot, like I said before, don't expect anything, it's more like a fan fiction. Expand

If you want to do diversity, do it properly: have people from a certain region be of a certain race, not mix & mash 'em up like it's 2020s Los Angeles. Nobody has a problem with some diversity but it should not be the show's only focus.
The Witcher show wasn't really that great to begin with, this is much, much worse and while one could argue that the Witcher had one redeeming feature (Henry Cavill) Blood Origin has none.

The fighting is okay, but nothing special. Acting is not bad, but also not memorable since the characters are often poorly written. However, the story is awful in every way, regardless of if you compare it to the books, the games, or any over fantasy series.

The decisions of the characters and their motivation are often shallow and outright dumb. The core of The Witcher, it’s philosophy of every choice has consequences and your only option in this world is to choose between two evils (in the games this is more true than in the books, but the books focus on the horror of war and how people suffer living in it, which is also not shown once in this prequel), is annihilated since big changes are made by characters which consequences are only mentioned briefly without showing it to the audience. Also, most characters do and get away with stupid choices, where probable and anticipated consequences do not happen just because the script says so. Plottwists are expectable and dumb in a similar way. Outer creatures are introduced without any explanation or motivation. The show mocks itself early that the story of seven knights who fight for a common goal and alter the destiny of a world is unoriginal and boring, but than claim theirs is not. To my regret, it is. It is very much. And every teaser they showed which probably also affects the main series points to the same shallow, uncreative, and mostly dumb direction this series took, ignoring the basic lore and laws of the books and even their main spirit. This series has as much to do with the books as Disney films with reality.

One thing especially bothers me: It is not unheard of the writers of the witcher series to include sassy comments about critics in their script. They have done so in episode 4 of season 2 to answer critics not liking the intertwining of timelines in the first season. I found their comment funny because I liked how it was done in season 1. However, at the start of Blood origin Jaskier says “You are telling me that the first version of a witcher was a badass elf? This is really gonna piss Geralt off”. It took long for me to understand what he meant by that, because Geralt does not hate elves, neither in the games, book nor the series itself. He really more identified with them, since they share their shunned existence in the modern human dominated society. Also, as Vesemir pointed out in season 2, the first witchers were born of elder blood, making an elf as first witcher likely. But then I realized they either mean Henry Cavill, because they know he would be against this idea/this series, or the fans who they know would also probably don’t like it. And in the witcher cosmos this really doesn’t make much sense. Witchers were created to oppose a monster infested world (after the conjunction) to protect humans since they were slaughtered the most of the species because of their initial/inherent weakness compared to long-lived and often magical skilled elves and dwarves with their fighting and smithing abilities. Also, elves do not rely on this messy witcher creating since their method of alternating genes and creating weapons spans hundreds of years. Because of this behavior they underestimated humans and suffered the consequences. All in all, this comment is just another sassy way to praise themselves and condemn valid critics of their show.

Avoid at all costs and save your time. Also, don’t expect much from the following witcher season if this is the direction they are aiming at.

Edit: And please stop assuming everybody who is not your opinion is review bombing. There are many people out their giving this show a 0 or a 10 because they really think it is earned. Try to judge the review quality for its reasoning and not for its score. But for the record: This series is not dumb because of black or LGBT characters (and everyone who really think it is are the problem), but because their writing is awful. Subtle difference, I know.

They were created by Alzur, a HUMAN sorcerer, LONG after conjunction to deal with monsters efficiently - as elves already had their longevity and dwarves their sturdiness, humans were the most common menu for all the monsters on the continent. And yes, there was a lot of experimentation involved, Alzur didn't care about morality, only about results. First few trials ended in painful and ugly deaths of the subjects (and some of Alzur's initial assistants, including his lover) but thanks to them he learned that only human boys of certain age and fitness can survive the full process (that's why there are no witcher women, though I expect NF to change that as well in future seasons). Eventually, he recruited his former master Malaspina and his apprentice Idarran (both HUMAN) to help in larger scale of production. Ironically, they also dabbled into experimentation on enhancing mosters, effectively making future witchers' job even harder. One of those monsters was Alzur's ultimate demise. Despite effectively saving humanity through witchers Alzur is considered a villan by historians, especially sorcerers, mainly due to his later experiments with monsters that were far worse than any naturally occuring specimens.? I am currently reading the novels again. Not everything in the novels, not all novels, is very good, but it is clear and evident how deep and complex the Witcher universe is. So, how does Blood Origin fit into it? So far, it doesn't. Blood Origin could be anything, even a Willow prequel, sequel, whatever generic show or film came out in the past few years. The writers clearly do not know how to write unique fantasy storyline. And they tried their BS on an established fantasy lore and universe? How did that happen unchecked internally? And who is the primary showrunner? A nobody with little experience (de Barra). I doubt that the actual The Witcher series will recover from this, after the recent public backlash and writing mess. So, maybe 3 The Witcher seasons is all there ever will be and Blood Origin put the final nail in the coffin of Netflix's The Witcher. It happens. Shame though. 4/10 still for the effort, the cinematics, even though it could be any universe (with pointy ears people), and that it made me laugh (for all the bad reasons). Expand

Here, they could not defile the source material as there is practically none. They wrote their own story, it is a bit cringe and stupid, but really, I've see a lot worse. The visuals are quite good, music is also ok, even the dialogues, could be worse :)

For sure it deserves a higher score than The Witcher season 2 and Rings of Power. The level of absolutely stupid things was limited here in comparison.

Did I mention how much I liked it? There was action, romance, love, revenge, heartbreak, excitement, sadness, elves, monsters, and badass women! It was creative, imaginative, well-written and well-acted. The cinematography was beautiful and the fight scenes were nicely choreographed. Great show by Netflix. With that said, the story building, character progressions and world lore have all been more or less thrown to the wayside - especially if you are set to accept at least SOME guidance from the source material by Andrzej Sapkowski. I sighed my way through most of it and could not help but be disappointed by the myriad of seemingly mandatory inclusivity (where none was actually needed). All in all a solid but quite sadly decided 2/10. Loved the original series - will most likely not continue to follow the series as it "evolves". Expand

Ok, I'm down with that, let's give it a shot, could be really fun.

Now, let's make the quality of the sets and costumes relatively cheap (costumes always look new, no dirt or wear; set design is simple and crude). Also, let's make the plot very generic and full of plot holes. Now let's add too many unrelatable characters for an audience to keep track of, and let's not flesh out their motivations and histories at all.

This is the show.

In short: It's just awful. The writing, the composition/cinematography, the acting, the dialogues, the fight scene choreography, the cgi - everything is sub-par. One of the worst attempt at a fantasy TV show I've ever watched. I can't in good faith find a single compliment I could pay the show or its creators. That being said, the writing stands out as especially abysmal. The writers butchered the source material beyond what you'd believe is possible. The end result is a cringy, generic and extremely bland show - tailored for "modern audiences", if you catch my drift.

In all honesty, the show is so egregiously bad that it's almost offensive. Please don't waste your time watching. I'd recommend reading one of Sapkowskis novels instead.

There is no real attempt to capture the spirit of the Witcher world and when they do tie this prequel into the main show it often feels so forced that it's like the only reason they included those connections was to deflect criticism away from using the name to prop up whatever this "prequel" is.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another woke written series that check every modern agenda instead of bringing something good and richer. All the elves clans are diverse ethnics, the elves are basically, humans and there is no geography. The narrator at the beginning explain all the story in the first episode. Or how to insult the intelligence of your audience, right from the start. No geography...that demands to follow the lore, so...The acting is average at best, the dwarf and Michelle are the only tolerable performances. The music was forgettable. The visuals were fine. The combat were short and strangely, lack some physical danger, even when someone gets hurt...you just don't believe it. And the convergence of the spheres ? Narrated, and last 1 minute with a black screen. Might as well have put 2d slides if you didn't have the budget or the will to explain it properly. I give that horrible series a 33%. If you want to jerk on your woking agendas, this is perfect for you. For fantasy story telling, this is crap. Expand

The acting is wooden and unconvincing, the characters are one dimensional and uninteresting, and the plot is disjointed, confusing, and totally unsatisfying. It feels like the writers had no idea what kind of story they wanted to tell, and instead threw together a bunch of convoluted subplots and plot points that never really go anywhere.

The special effects are subpar and the fight scenes are clumsy and clumsy. The dialogue is clunky and uninspired, and the pacing is never quite right. It's like the writers don't understand what makes a good TV show, and the result is a total mess.

The Witcher TV series is no better. It's full of inconsistencies and plot holes, and the acting is often over the top and cheesy. The effects are cheesy and the fight scenes are lacklustre. The dialogue is stiff and unengaging, and the pacing is often off.

Overall, this series is a complete disaster and does not live up to the high standards set by the original Witcher books. Do yourself a favour and don't waste your time with either Witcher Blood Origin or Witcher TV series.

I don't see any connection to the Witcher or Polish mythology or any of the influences in Andrzej Sapkowski's work. This is a poorly written farcical fantasy story with the Witcher franchise logo slapped on top of it.

The writing in this show is catastrophically bad, and there is no logic to the story or the character's motivations. Honestly, some of the actors in this miniseries were wasted on such a garbage script.

The world building of various factions and ethic groups is not realistic for the time period the story is reflecting, nor does it follow the source material. The setting is just not believable as a result, as I have no idea how a bunch of medieval cultures achieved such mass migration so early on like modern times. And no, I don't care if it's fantasy - your world needs to make sense. The further you go back into time periods of low technology where things like travel and wealth are big challenges to migration, your world needs to reflect this with mostly homogeneous societies. If you want to make a diverse population, tell a story in modern day New York, or tell a space story in the far future.

The show is also filled with "strong female characters" putting men to shame, which is a troupe that is just so overused in Hollywood these days. It's so boring. uninteresting and repetitive. I can't even remember a strong feminine heroine in a recent Hollywood movie that retains any of her femineity. As a woman, I am so tired by this.

I have no idea why any Witcher fan or a fan of fantasy would watch this. The show is generally horrible, from the modern identity political messages, the lack of respect for the source material, the childish and immature writing, the lack of cohesion and rationality with respect to the world building, the logic of the world and the characters, and it really does not fit in with the Witcher franchise because of all the violations of lore and other things. In short, this is bad fan fiction. It is a cash grab by Netflix. Without the Witcher logo and some notable actors, you would not have watched this. It's not worth your time.

The events and motivations depicted within the show often feel disjointed and nonsensical, with little thought given to logical event sequences or causation. This ultimately serves to break the immersion of the viewer and detract from the overall viewing experience.

In addition to this, the CGI utilized within the series is implemented in a way that is highly distracting and fails to effectively enhance the action on screen. On the contrary, the poor quality of the effects actively works to hinder the believability of the scenes in which they are used, further undermining the credibility of the series as a whole.

Is worth noting that Blood Origin appears to bear little resemblance to the source material of the original books on which it is based. Rather than staying true to the logic and internal consistency of the fantasy world established within the Witcher source material, the series seems to have taken significant liberties in twisting and altering key aspects of the world and its lore.

As a result, the series feels like a completely different fantasy universe entirely, one that bears only a passing resemblance to the beloved and well-established world of the original books. This not only serves to alienate fans of the source material, but also makes it difficult for new viewers to fully immerse themselves in the world of the series.

Overall, THE WITCHER: BLOOD ORIGIN falls short in a number of key areas and fails to deliver a satisfying or coherent viewing experience. While it is certainly possible for a series with a flawed premise to still be enjoyable, unfortunately this one falls short of that mark.

Enough with the review bombing from people who are angry this show has a diverse ensemble cast, or fans who have beef with the main Witcher show. Please just let normal people write real reviews and let other people decide for themselves if they want to watch! This is four hours of good fantasy fun. The visuals effects and sets are high quality, the acting is good with a real standout performance from Francesca Mills as Meldorf. I didn't expect to tear up but I did twice. I am not familiar with the Witcher other than watching the other show, so I think not carrying that baggage is helpful. While the script and storyline aren't going to win any awards, they aren't bad I don't think the goal was to win awards. This is just food for fantasy fans: funny, fun, good fighting, good pacing/action alongside poignant moments, and relatable characters. It explained the "conjunction of spheres" to someone (like me) who doesn't get it but heard it talked about in the main show. It also had some cool original songs woven in that were sung by a bard, to which I give two thumbs up. I would love to see more Meldorf if they do another miniseries in this same time period or earlier. Expand
