This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Please make it stop. The writing on this show is absolutely terrible. From past seasons they know they don't have to write a thinking person's script. All they have to do is create cartoon characters with writing to match (we're talking 1970s cartoons here) and concentrate on cool zombie makeup. The zombie makeup and effects are the only thing still good on the show.

    Funniest things:
    1) The artsy fartsy stuff in s08e01 attempted to mimic the scene composition of breaking bad or better call saul... it was a laughable attempt.
    2) their car "armor" made from thin pieces of sheet metal and fiberglass roof panels ain't gonna stop bullets.
    3) neegan came out and all they had to do was shoot him. he was maybe 30 yards away.
    4) for being warriors and survivalists, they like to waste ammo shooting windows
    5) they blew up the RV and neegan decided to run out the front door towards the people trying to kill him. his building wasn't even on fire. where were all his gang members? also, he hid in that trailer and didn't even lock the door.

Lazy lazy lazy lazy lazy writing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow. That was really bad. 40 minutes of commercials and 30 minutes of show were a bit much to watch. Turned it after I saw 45 people with automatic weapons stand 50 feet outside of the Savior's hide out. Negan walks out the door and he an Rick chat. Rick, you said you were going to kill Negan, what better time than point blank? (Stop with the stupid dream sequences as well, they are not dramatic, they are just stupid.) That show was just garbage. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Negan is a cold blooded killer. He has slain the show completely. That is not to say the show wasn't struggling to find itself in the 2 seasons prior to Negan. However, the Negan/Savior story line has been about as bad as bad can get. The writers should be ashamed of themselves. I have been buying the seasons on Amazon for the last few years; however, I am out after the season finale that I have already paid for.

At this point, it would be wise for AMC to plan out and announce the end game for this show. If they announced that there were 2 more seasons to complete it, some people might stick around.

The high point of Season 8 has been the killing off of Carl. This was more overdue than the demise of Negan. The many low points are all basically the same...inane, poorly thought out, senseless "attacks" involving the careless discharge of semi-automatic weapons. There is at least one in every episode.

The best bullet maker is Eugene, he has come up with a way to make 1.000's of ammo rounds that have the uncanny ability to dodge all major characters.

As season 8 comes to a close, I believe a good 98% of the audience is now on Team Zombie. It really takes talent to get America rooting for the zombies.

The Walking Dead season 8 was...underwhelming. Anticlimactic and really predictable. I would go as far to call this bad. This shouldn’t be the case, right? All out war has begun and Rick, or should I say the Alexandria crew will face off they biggest challenge yet. Yet, gets old really quick and you wish the season wasn’t like this. Most of it is shootouts with easy results and no tension. My relationship with this show is complicated to say the least. Not to say it was all bad, because that isn't the case which I will get into right now.

What can I say that hasn’t been said already by me, yet with every season I feel the need to gosh over the impeccable Andrew Lincoln. I think it has to do with his eyes which express so much emotion without him saying anything - Basically windows to the characters soul. He’s honestly the reason I’m still watching despite my critical thoughts with the recent seasons. We finally get to see Rick savage side again during his lowest point.

Also, Chandler Riggs was really damn good and improved a lot throughout the years, especially in the last couple of episodes where he finally showcase his skills. Giving his character a powerful send off. Plus the music for Carl’s death was so emotional, and the way it builds up to the climax, it’s just so heartbreaking. I can’t explain it properly in the best way.

Lauren Cohan was excellent this season and always has been since her first appearance. The character arc from being a farm girl, a grieving widow, and now a touch leader. Her mental breakdown in the episode ‘Wrath’ was truly heartbreaking.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan continues to light up the screen with his cold sarcastic tone that makes him evil and appealing. However, we finally see a softer side to him that humanize him and more down to earth. We have seen this briefly, just in small sections when his bullying goes too far. He’s becoming more open and vulnerable, proving he’s nothing like the Governor, in terms of being too far gone.

The cinematography was pretty good with the mixture of lighting and shades of dark that could easily represent the characters state. A little far fetched, although it’s another way of looking at it. And that’s really it for positives or the nicest thing I can about this season. Time to be negative:

Whoever made the decision to kill off Carl should never work on this show again. While my feelings have always be mixed on the character, but I can see Carl carrying on Rick’s legacy years after he dies. Like passing the touch, but not now.

The dumbest part is everyone shooting skills suddenly disappears away when the main villain is in good range. It’s not like there’s a far distance - Nope, just let the villain talk and give him time to easily get away. Oh and this is just the start of the episode, which confirmed my worries that this is the season overall. Rick was right when he said, “I’m gonna kill you. Not today, not tomorrow. But I will kill you”. While killing off Negan will be a waste of a great villain and actor, but makes the characters look useless.

Don't get me started on the stupid extreme close up compilation of the characters faces. Like, why?

How about Morales, a returning character from season one and this should be a major surprise to any fan of the show, but instead everyone is looking up who the character is, because nobody remembers him and it's not like he stays around for long anyway.

Now if you go back to my previous reviews, you start to notice a similar pattern in positives and negatives - Because that’s the season formula that infected my reviews. It’s like poetry, it rhymes.

OK, let's talk about the small guy in the room - Scott Gimple might be one of the worst producers/writers ever existed. Every terrible decision that’s been made on this show is Gimples fault. I honestly think the number of episodes needs to be trimmed down to avoid filler and pointless episodes that don’t development anything, just sleepwalking to the climax. Does it cost more money to make longer episodes?

Still, I’m hopeful for season 9 returning back to form with C**t Gimple out, despite the critical backlash and low ratings. Judging by everything I’ve heard so far about the new season, sounds like a soft reboot and will bring a fresh spin. By bringing life back into this already tired show. And with Andrew Lincoln leaving the show it will be difficult to watch, but hope they do something incredibly satisfying.

I’m not a ‘TWD’ hater, just addressing issues that have yet to be improved. We shall see.

The actors are the only thing that saves this show. Also the final episodes, are more packed with actions which is good. 80% of this season was really not entertaining or fun to watch. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Walking Dead has become a dragging character drama that follows whichever storyline will deliver the biggest bombshell to its TV audience while upsetting its comic fanbase. The problems with this show have been evident in the last few seasons and hopefully the finale can remedy that with a time jump or change in tone. The promise of all-out war ended in lacklustre fashion as no one died on a show where no one should be safe. The fact that the show is supposed to be about the survival of humanity against the undead apocalypse, and yet the biggest threat is betrayal among human groups rather than trying to sustain a real civilization, has this show going on a downward spiral. Obviously the premise needs to adapt as characters cannot be expected to live like nomads and travel forever on a show like this, civilization is built by creating a foundation for society to thrive, but taking away the show’s main selling point, the walkers; aside for the occasional gimmicky death of a beloved original character with way more story to tell, shows that the writers are focused on more shock and awe than actual storytelling. While some of the stories continue to be interesting, they are either thrown into the background or killed off to continue the less engaging, campy and oversaturated stories of a few bigger characters. Hopefully the shift in tone that the finale suggests brings this show back into form with its earlier seasons by returning to its roots and letting us know that death can happen at any time in the apocalypse. Look, the series has just become embarrasing at this point. I can't use any words to describe this season, which is probably because i didn't understand what was going on half the time. Why must this show do this to me. No risk. Not much death and the big death we do get was a horrible idea. The first half of the season was just downright awful. The second half picks up in a good way, but the ending could be seen from miles away. Which is sad. I’m ashamed in the show currently. Hopefully the show can pick up the pace next season or it is ****ed

Not in the Walking Dead. You get stupid lines like, "Don't do it, we aren't like them." "It isn't worth it". Really?!! Give me a break. The show has become so unsatisfying to say the least. But noooooo, not the main guy. THAT is the one guy YOU DO KILL!! Sigh! Or when One eye boy is dying and telling Rick to be peaceful and not be the way he is. REALLY?!! You really think you can reason with a person like Negan and have him leave you alone? Amazingly inane writing. I have watched every season of the show since it came out and I have been along for the entire journey. I read the comics and was excited to see Negan in action. He is my favourite in the comic because he is menacing but very likeable at the same time. A show that started being one of the best things TV could've ever played. Frank Darabont was leading it up to be one of the greatest shows of all time but Glenn Mazzara and Scott M. Gimple ruined it. Negan, played by Dean Morgan has overstayed his importance on this show, he should be gone by now. This is by far the worst season of the entire show.

The show is almost becoming a parody of itself. Whereas Game of Thrones can still thrive without source material, Walking Dead seems to have lost what made it great in the first few seasons. Lackluster writing, cringy inspirational speeches and continuity errors are all over the place. The show is on a rollercoaster that just keeps going down.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (PLS USE THIS CORRECTED VERSION INSTEAD. THX) I really loved this show since the beginning despite some of the stupid decisions and slow overly drawn out scenes and repetitive plot points. The appeal lay in the survival instincts and determination of the characters to overcome all odds by any means necessary and make their own rules on the way. It had a revolutionary ethos in that way which I found attractive. I appreciated the endearing qualities of the main characters - who while imperfect, developed grit, loyalty to each other and a bad ass militancy. I guess I wished I had friends like that in real life. Hence my fondness for Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Carol, Maggie, Carl, Michonne.. and for a while, Shane. Imagine how crushing and disappointing to see it all degenerate at the start of season 7 as the series devolved into pure sadism and torture and murder of the characters I loved to watch which instantly destroyed my main reason for watching. It is too bad that the show had to take this barbaric direction into a self indulgent murderous orgy as it is not interesting in the least and very alienating.
With some imagination and creativity we could have had far more interesting themes about survival and challenges of a zombie apocalypse. Instead we are given sadistic psycho who would have been right at home in a Nazi death camp for not one or two episodes but an entire season!! It gets old quick like right away.... Its just tiresome & not very creative. This season fails to make the most of both the incredible characters that were previously developed as well as all the creative possibilities of something as dark and fascinating as a Zombie apocalypse which captures the public imagination in the first place due to all the deeply buried fears we never talk about from nuclear war to climate change and ecological collapse. I suppose the only reason I was motivated to write this review is that I miss "hanging out" with our beloved star characters. It is one thing to see them struggle and hurt and see them develop resilience and bravery.. and quite another to see them tortured and murdered and eliminated while inverting the power dynamics so that we are subject to a psychotic Nazi for the rest of series. I didn't sign up for that. The only thing that tells me is, humans are actually worse than the zombies in many ways which I kind of already knew. That is why I was hoping to see the character's better qualities emerge in their trial by fire... not just watch the darkness of our worst instincts triumph. Get better writers next time.. and there still may be hope. What a waste of acting talent. Wish those RPG's Abraham had found had been put to better use. I almost feel the show's writers are brain dead zombies at times. I hate when a good thing is ruined by ineptness and failures of creativity and imagination. But thanks for seasons 1-6.

    *REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!*
From the very first episode of this season, things were stupid. Rick surrounds Negan's compound armed to the teeth, and Negan just comes casually strolling out like he knows he has plot armor and won't get shot. Then they talk for like 10 minutes and then Rick brutally murders a bunch of glass windows. I guess he showed those saviors! They'll be stepping on broken glass for weeks!

Then, more stupid stuff happens in the following episodes such as:

-Morgan becoming the Terminator and killing a bunch of saviors (I feel like the producers meant for this to be epic, but it just made me laugh uncontrollably)

-Jesus refusing to kill a large group of saviors who was just trying to kill them a second ago (because we gotta have a moral character, right? HERP DERP DERP)

-Endless ammo. Seriously though, they must have entered the unlimited ammo cheat or something.

-The death of Eric, an underdeveloped C-list character who's death made people go ,"Aw, that's kinda sad," then completely forget about it by the end of the episode.

-The return of Morales, because we needed a throwback to when TWD was actually a great show.

-The death of Morales, because why not?

-King Ezekiel shouting about not losing one of his ranks while standing on enemy territory right out in the open. Honestly I never liked his character, all of his speeches are cringey and cartoonish to me.

-An 800 lb tiger being torn to pieces by 10 walkers. And to those who keep saying, "Shiva gave up and let the walkers eat her to let Ezekiel escape", that is a load of crap. SHE IS A TIGER. A tiger would not simply lay down and die, they would fight until they couldn't fight anymore. Ezekiel could've easily escaped while she was fighting off the walkers without her sacrificing herself.

-Bullets that can rip holes into human flesh but not into a Jeep window (I'm referencing the car chase scene between Rick and the two saviors in episode 4).

The list goes on. There is so much stupidity in this season that I see it more of as a comedy than a drama/action series. This show has long outstayed its welcome, and hopefully the viewership continues to decline so that they can finally end this show's misery. It's sad to see what TWD has become. I remember back when me and my entire household would gather around the TV every Sunday night at 8 p.m. with pizza and drinks anticipating to watch it. Now, I just DVR the episodes and watch them whenever there's nothing else on TV to watch. They need to do better. Shows like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones are kicking their butts right now. Gimple needs to start working towards an end goal for TWD. I'd say to let season 9 be the last one, 10 at the absolute latest.

Show us don't tell us. The showrunners appear to love intercutting past, present and future, but it's at the expense of clarity here. Even the way the action scenes were staged: Negan's appearance on the balcony felt like phony swagger and was a cliche. The fact that Rick could see Negan meant he could kill him, unless you showed me why that could not happen. They didn't stage, shoot and cut the scene well enough to make that clear. And suddenly there are no grenades? Or bazookas you've foreshadowed in previous shows? Irritating and implausible. The two words for this mid-season are incoherent & confusing... the original screenwriters must be in other tv-shows, because there are too many "this doesn't make sense" in all the episodes. It's sad seeing how this super tv-show is ending...

I have never missed a single episode since the Season 1 premiere -- and what used to be a compelling (yet campy-fun) exploration of the human condition has become just plain silly and chaotic, week after week. The battle scenes are a jumbled mess; character choices make zero sense; and the story arc shifts on a dime, depending upon which graphic novel beat the showrunners are trying to hit. A lot of these elements are way more passable on a page than they are in live action (medieval hockey gear, trained tigers, a villain who speaks in 15-minute monologues). It's become almost laughably bad -- like a Monty Python spoof with rotting corpses and a massive pyrotechnics budget. Desperation for ratings aside, there's something to be said for the wisdom of having a clear (and imminent) narrative end-point in mind. Expand

Why are they never trying radio communications? Nobody wants to hook up a satellite? The Season started with some of the same stupidity. In their attack on the Saviors part of the plan apparently was not sticking around to make sure the enemy was dead. I thought that's what an attack in war was about. Killing the enemy. All they did was blow out their windows and destroy their fence. And then marched in a bunch of zombies. That's hardly a clean-up operation. Everybody got dressed up for the dance and then went home early. It made me think about what Machiavelli said about just wounding somebody. I thought, wow, they're finally going to kill these guys. We wouldn't care so much except this show was brilliant for 6 seasons and developed a hugely loyal fan base, and they have now been slapped in the face with this cheap, poorly written garbage.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show used to be amazing. Now it is repetitive bullcrap. We have had 2 solid episodes this season and the rest are trash.

    Individual episode score

    Episode 1
7/10, It was okay but we have seen the same plot in this episode many time before.
    Episode 2
2/10, a total mess, confusing, boring, and all the writing was just dull and lazy.
    Episode 3
4/10, better than episode 2, but the action is still dull and it seems like a waste of time focusing on characters I couldn't care about.
    Episode 4
9/10, the only true good episode of this season. This episode focuses on the struggle of King Ezekiel and has some good emotional moments that make it stand out.
    Episode 5
8/10, another solid episode. It was cool to find out a little of Negan's backstory and it was a really funny episode.
    Episode 6
1/10, don't even bother with this one. It is filled with stupid character decisions and frustrating plot that will make you want to tear your eyes out.
    Episode 7
7/10, better than most episodes this season and much better than the previous episode, but it still feels lacking and it focuses too much on Eugene
    Episode 8
5/10. a mostly disappointing mid-season finale but it did have some good moments. The general plot is confusing and the confrontation between Simon and Maggie felt like filler for a 90 minute time slot. The fight between Negan and Rick was a redeemable quality because it is a war between them. It was unnecessary to kill Carl off since he is so key in the future of the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This season starts really well, but then treads deep into a mire that culminates in a death that - in my opinion - damages the story in a fatal way. Still, I was watching out of mere curiosity to see how the writers would resolve the plot.
The ending was... ok. It wasn't bad. It didn't feel satisfying, in the sense that you get closure or revenge. Drawing this war for 2 seasons was too much - the wounds that have propelled both characters and audience to want to see Negan pay for his atrocities are old by now.
What it did feel like was relief. Relief that this period of TWD is finally behind us. By all means, I think the show should have ended on that note. What works in the comics does not necessarily work well on TV. For one thing long-time actors choose to move on with their lives, whereas fictional characters have no such say.

So, it wasn't great, and it wasn't as terrible or traumatic as past experiences, but if you want to feel like you've watched The Walking Dead, and end with a few moments of calm, pretending that the protagonists will now enjoy some stability and hope after their incredible sacrifices - watch season 8, and stop here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely LOVED (past tense) The Walking Dead up untill the point where they encounter," The Governor" a couple of seasons ago. I used to anticipate with absolute child like giddiness the coming of a new episode and would obsessively re-watch previous seasons while waiting for the new season because the shows writing, acting, production values and pacing were so layered and complex that you can re-watch them and still revel in amazement how well made the shows were... and they all stood up to that increased scrutiny that comes with watching something repeatedly.

In stark contrast to the brilliance and careful crafting that made those earlier seasons, Season 8 was by far, the absolute worst display of outside forces co-opting an exceptionally spectacular series in order to inject their own version of structure, atmosphere and how shall I put it, morality that is akin to some hack, smearing pooh on the surface of a Salvador Dali painting thinking that it would be improving or paying homage to the original. I am a viewer that forces himself to watch through the entirety of a show before I submit a review because; A) I'm patient B) I'm fair C) I don't rush to judgement when things don't go the way that I would like them to. Call it a respect for the creative process. When something genuinely sucks, however, I will resent the heck out of it after giving the benefit of my doubt, watching the show to the end and found nothing worth redeeming. I get royally P. Ohhhed. I actually forwarded past the endless, annoying, protracted and plain stupid ten minute speeches that went on and on at infinitum.

The Governor talked too much and people were being charitable while simultaneously expressing how much they were fearful of the character remaining in the story line for long. Then along came the Saviors with a similar Governor like character that even Jeffery Dean-Morgan could not salvage. One gets the impression that rather than learning from audiences displeasure of the Governor character that the powers that be instead, doubled down on a similar character.

In summery, The show got transformed from one with very little dialog, huge amounts of atmosphere and embraced the kill or be killed world they now inhabited, be it walkers or the humans that preyed upon the survivors. They embraced their new reality of their situation with very little vacillation on morality play because morality no longer applied to the survival situations that they are constantly in. It got transformed into literally a soap opera from the 1980's where now, the majority of the show is dialog and not just any dialog, verbal diarrhea. We are no longer scared nor horrified and their constant hand wringing on what is clearly an injection of religious morality angst has had the effect of making die hard fans get the sense that we are being punished for our love for the series or worse, being lectured for it. A more cynical take on why this happened is that the new writers, producers or directors really didn't understand or even know how or what it was that made the show a hit and just gave up trying while simultaneously squeezing every last dollar from it's good reputation.

I want to briefly call out a few grievances here. A) Some things appear incredibly fake in stark contrast to how amazingly realistic the zombies appear. Andrew Lincolns' makeup. The gray rinse in his beard (beard extensions??) and the subsequent dark hair dye job in the retrospective scenes really stood out as looking uncharacteristically fake. There is also an over-use of this look of Rick Grimes with what looks like baby oil in his hair (to give the appearance of constantly being drenched in sweat) coupled with the actors limited spectrum of emoting grief, regret and disorientation and the red eye liner which is supposed to represent irritation from salty sweat dripping into his eyes. C) overuse of machine guns which never hit the bad guy, endless supply of bullets, running out only when they catch up to the bad guy C) too many opportunities to kill Neegan that didn't happen. D)The stupid C.G.I. tiger who only killed bad guys. D) The dread locks are so obviously wigs that often look crooked. E) how did Neegan get those pictures, flares and gun at the dump again? Insulting to our intelligence much?

I am currently watching "Maniac" which gave me a laugh out loud, pause, rewind and laugh out loud again moment which I think also applies to Carls' death scene(s) A character was half way through reading Black Beauty when she exclaims,"when is this effing horse going to die already?" I couldn't believe how long it took for them to let Carl die. It was absolutely terrible writing and I had forwarded past most of it after 5 or 10 minutes and was disgusted how it occupied a half to 3/4's of the episode. Think about that. 3/4's of an episode all shot from the same exact scene. You may as well be looking at a viewmaster and listening to a cassette of the dialog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Only 2 episodes in, but man...this is the worst season I have seen. Walking Dead just sinks each season. Is it just too many cooks, or laziness?

    (1) Alright, so realistically we don't have all that many fully automatic weapons in the US, so my guess is they would actually need to know how to convert. However, these people that are smart enough to make automatic weapons cannot realize that sheet metal doesn't stop a bloody .22. These people who make automatic weapons never thought to test their sheet metal armor before attaching it to an armada of cars? Is the village that stupid? "Hey maybe we should armor our cars and stop bullets with our big fence metal". "Okay sure, I'll try shooting it.", "No, don't do that it makes too much sense."

    (2) First episode, most lazy setup I have ever seen for the love of god. Negan walks out onto the balcony with a group of goons. Rick and his group instead of ending things and killing Negan, decide to instead shoot about a million rounds of ammunition into a building which could be filled with actual innocent people. If someone tried to run on a balcony like that with 50 rifles pointed at their dome, it would be lights out instantly. TWD really couldn't come up with another confrontation? This isn't DnD where the big baddy can run away under ridiculous circumstances and cast a spell of invisible ****

    (3) The part where the RV blows up and Negan is left alive. Every single one of Rick's people at this point MUST know the war with the Saviors will not end until he is at least dead. What is this **** we have to leave, and the scene makes it so much more unbelievable? We've spent 5 billion rounds of ammunition followed by how much planning to get here and give up? Holy crap.

    (4) The overall decision making in 2 episodes is just terrible. Every decision is just purely stupid as if each person downgraded in education to kindergarten.

    (5) Episode 2 Rick confronted by a random dude in a room that is well-lit, but apparently he roles 1 for perception. I mean how blind is he? Then followed by being confronted by another guy. You know let's just repeat this process a few more times and get it all out right now. Really?

    (6) Repetitive stupid gun fights. Please just stop. The guy is 5 feet in front of me, but I'm going to miss 500 rounds.

My review of Season 8 in 2 episodes is a "No way, he's done Jim" out of 10

Going off of the first four episodes (or quarter of the entire season more specifically) I believe that AMC are some of the most laziest writers and milkers to fandom in recent memory. Now I want to state that I do not think the season so far is bad. It is decent with some genuinely good moments sprinkled in the episodes, but much of it is stretching and lingering on things that do not need to be so. I have seen all the seasons of the The Walking Dead and of them Season 3-5 were my top three because the direction and writing was just good enough to warrant good, great and even brilliant moments. It still had its fair share of issues, but the potential to improve from 4 to 5 was great. Jump to 6, 7 and 8 and now I see it as safe and lazy attempts to keep itself above water. Season 5 was my favorite season of the show and for others arguably as well, so AMC thought in their heads that while sitting on a pile of gold they might as well see how much they can milk the series until people start to notice.

I bring this up because this "All-Out War" is anything but. If it's a war of something at all, then it's an all-out war on my patience and time. The premiere does a solid good job with itself; it seems to have promise and hope. The problem is it was the 100th episode. When Kirkman wrote the hundredth issue of the TWD comics, he made Negan killing Glenn the climax that solidified how changed Rick's world would become, while also making a shake up that would define the comic series theme of changing in the world full of zombies. The premiere was just good...it didn't shake up anything. It felt solid, but not brilliant. Do you see the issue?

The three other episodes were mostly okay. 2 and 4 were lazy and stretched plotted episodes that can almost be seen as filler, as characters do the dumbest things that do not play to their strengths that they have learned throughout the series at all. They commit dumb things because idiot audiences who like Michael Bay films see intense situations or stinger music plays and instantly get overdramatic. Instead of stepping back and saying "why did Jesus have a conscience trip in the middle of a firefight in a Savior compound and let Tara be taken hostage and in the end let the guy live?" it's "OMG Tara is in trouble, ahhh but Jesus saved her! Whoo!".

Speaking of action and trouble, my oh my how generic, dull and completely boring the action is. Lots of bullets flying places and not hitting a single person in a sea of people, yet Morgan gets up (wounded and in a compound that has men fully capable of kilingl him) and takes out everyone John Wick-style. How creative. Episode 4 commits a sin with it's walkers. One minute they are a few feet away in one shot, the next they are yards away. Consistency and realism is thrown out the window. Let's make a great character in the comics be humiliated by some dude and stretch his part in the war super long (when it was basically over and done in one issue and got the message across).

Look I like the cast of TWD. They have good acting and generally well-rounded charm to them that I respect, but the script and writing is just too safe and weak to play to their better moments. They just don't have enough to work with. I love Negan because he's an **** and a complete douche you wanted to kill because he established himself as THAT person. He is the show's best antagonist because 1) Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a talented actor who enjoys the role and makes it work and 2) he's a psycho that doesn't care about what is happening to him because he has a empire to prove it. He's mustache twirling evil and thats great! So why is everyone mostly boring and have no heart or soul in this now? Writing.

The show is passable so far, but if there's no hook or shocker that feels unique (like Season 7's premiere but make that every episode for the season) then this show is going to drift into the "cable immortal" realm of shows like Supernatural, where only the fandom keep it alive because they will watch anything TWD related and the show itself will become a blob of its former self. The first two seasons of TWD were very flawed, but at least they were trying to get their feet wet and the later seasons fixed them. Season 6, 7 and probably 8 (so far) is likely going to undo it all again and start the series back to square one. I hope I am wrong, because as a reader of the comics and watching every episode since the first one, I feel the TV series will ultimately lose the war of creativity, cleverness and surprise for me.

I found the first half of season 8 to be a mixed bag. After watching the first four episodes of the series, I was beginning to question whether on not I should just give up on the programme, such was their lack of quality. Lack of surprises, lack of clarity, and the constant and unrelenting action scenes (with little real thought included) made them among the poorest Walking Dead episodes I'd ever seen. Thankfully, things improved quite a lot after that. The pace of the action slowed somewhat, as actual dialogue between some of the main characters was included. Interesting scenes, especially with Negan and the Saviours in the four episodes, provided some great viewing. Unfortunately, there are still many plot holes in the writing and far too many poorly explained moments (especially in terms of action scenes), that you'd have to be a military strategist to fully understand. The dull or unnecessary characters are also still present, such as King Ezekiel and his deputy, Jadis and Tara, though attempts have been made to liven them up a bit, with varying degrees of success. Overall, it's been an improving start to the new season, with some good later episodes helping to erase the memory of the dross of the early episodes that started the season off. Expand

True fans of the show will appreciate the callbacks to previous seasons in this episode such as "Look at the flowers", "Rick at the gas station" and the "little girl" zombie. The best moments of the episode came when Rick turned up right outside of the Sanctuary and fired off his guns into the sky to get Negan's attention, which is just badass! He then counted down from 10 to 1, only he actually stopped at 7 like a badass and started shooting at Negan. This truly is the best show on TV at the moment and definitely worth a watch. Poorly written filler arcs and long, drawn out conversations have really destroyed The Walking Dead's reputation over the years, and really just made the show more plodding than it needs to be. Here comes season 8 to fix a lot of that with it's bombastic battles and limiting of the less substantial plotlines to a few mere side episodes that are spread far enough out across the 16-episode run to not be too much of a drag.

The gore effects are better than ever and the show continues to push the boundaries of just how much graphic violence can be shown on basic cable. The scale is very impressive as well with more faces and names being involved in this conflict than there were in Infinity War. This is the most action-packed season of TWD so far and it manages to be so without sacrificing big character moments.

There's some real growth from a lot of the protagonists this season, but it comes at the expense of their previously established beliefs and ideals. The writers are still very inconsistent with their handling of the characters and that's still frustrating. For example, I'm tired of seeing Rick go back and forth between "we need to save everybody" to "kill anyone who isn't us" from one season the next. The flip-flopping of personalities at a whim to fit whatever theme the showrunners are going for that season might be TWD's biggest flaw and that hasn't changed here.

It's easier than it has been in a long time to overlook these writing shortcomings however. This is the most exciting the show has been in a few years. On top of having a great villain in Negan and thrilling battles galore, pacing improvements make season 8 among the best of what TWD has to offer. This is the most plot progression the show has undergone since season 1.

The plot is going nowhere, if the characters were bad before, now are worse.

The worst season of The Walking Dead, season 8 tears down several established arcs for "shocking" plot twists nobody wanted.

Mit Abstand die schlechteste Staffel, die zweite Hälfte wird noch etwas besser, aber trotzdem ist sie sehr langweilig

I don't no why people hate this season so much, because I think this season is one of the best season so far! It got a lot of action! And the Final episode is just amazing tbh!

Ok, that’s it, I’m done. To be honest, I stopped 4 episodes from the end of this season. I found myself looking at my phone a lot when watching and really couldn’t do it anymore.

No es broma, el estreno de la séptima temporada fue posiblemente el mejor y más emocionante episodio de cualquier programa de televisión que haya visto en mi vida. De principio a fin, fue una montaña rusa emocional.

Well-done, but then TWD is always well-done. What’s missing is the thrill of surprise, or the shock of surprise. “Mercy” at least offers a hint that one may be coming.

The urge to expand the story beyond the constant flight from mindless flesh-munchers is understandable. But much of the dread, as well as emotional urgency, has gone out of the show in the process. ... The staging of the action in the season premiere, in which Rick, Maggie and XXX lead an attack on the Saviors compound, feels well below the show’s previous standard, like Michael Bay on a bad day.

Its brisk pacing, big action, and focus on the camaraderie between the Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom survivors makes for super entertaining television which makes you feel good without trivializing the drama. ... The episode offers more than popcorn-movie thrills and chills, however. Balancing out the mayhem is an understated, poignant father-son moment between Rick and Carl.
