Season 5 is a good season of The Walking Dead. The story is entertaining enough and well acted by the still extremely talented cast. However, the season seems to lose it's direction as it heads towards the mid-season break. It begins to seem too hung up on Beth's situation. Later, the start of the second half is a case of 'on the road again'. A particular case that made season 4 such a problem. This freedom adds a degree of welcomed mystery but does take away an important reason to feel intrigued in terms of progression. The Alexandria story arc is my favourite thing about this season. The characters are again in a place where trust is a luxury and challenges are a formality. The addition of new characters adds a fresh air whilst allowing for interesting theorising to commence. The season ends with a new foe in sight, perhaps the worst yet. The Walking Dead's fifth season puts the show back on the right track and re-establishes the consistency of season 3 following the erratic and disappointing season 4. We get thrills and chills and a genuine longing for season 6 to come around sooner. Expand

Season 5 of AMC's "The Walking Dead" tells a story of trust, betrayal, and suspicion as we see our heroes persevere through some of the darkest moments in the show's history.

I watched every episode over the space of 2 days and I got to say this is one of the best seasons of TV ive ever seen!! If I had watched it week by week with a mid season break I may have felt differently because of the slow pacing of some episodes. But on the whole Id still recommend this season to anyone. A great season of TV!!

With that aside, the season opener has everyone ready to see more, and I'm ready for every minute of it. Expand

INCREDIBLE SEASON OPENING!!! I know that the season just started, but I must say that the writers really did listen to the fans this time (More action, more zombies, and more traveling). In my opinion, all seasons were good, but the second and third seasons had very little action and that is what made many fans upset. The fourth season was better and had a good cliff hanger. Having actually watched the entire season (too many of these reviews only rate on a few episodes), I find myself more and more comfortable with calling season 5 of TWD the best season this show has offered up. The Walking Dead as a show itself as been like a mix relationship for me, because we will have one great episode and then a terrible and boring one that I had to ask why? Season 4 was the season of Filler, I'm not kidding you nothing happened in that season beside the Governor attacking Ricks group, the writing was all so messy in season 4 and I was very shade about season 5 and what can the writers do to win me over again, well let me tell you something about Season 5 of The Walking Dead and that is it's ten times better than Season 4.

I felt that season 5 had a lot of things moving and there wasn't much of filler episodes in this season which I'm so happy about because filler episodes are the most forgettable ones, it's a true fact. I also thought the writing has improved a lot with the dialogue that doesn't feel boringly thought out by the writers that only want to go home for the day.

The character arks are another thing that's improved in this season because you can see the group slowly melting away into full crazy by this world that they living in and how it's eating their minds away. But in the other seasons you never got that, you know what we got, pointless talk to talk between the characters talking about something that really isn't all that important and then the episode ends. Some people call that character development well I call it lazy writing and how is it character development when two characters stare at each other telling each other that they hungry and how their feeling, really.

I got to give credit to Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes as he gives a great performance as the furiously cold Rick. Andrew is the only reason I watch The Walking Dead because these something about Rick as a character that always keeps me watching. The rest of the cast did great as well.

I'm looking forward to Season 6 to see what's next and what else the show brings even if it is part awesomeness or upsetting.

The fifth season signifies that The Walking Dead has drastically matured. Unpredictability returns, and there is rarely a dull moment to be had. The story is all over the place in the best possible way, character arcs return to familiar - yet welcome - themes, and things are as gripping as ever. This truly is the series at its finest.

The season started off the strongest it has been in a long time with some of the bloodiest, darkest, and most action packed and tense episodes the show has seen. Part of that is due to how closely it stuck to it's comic book roots. The show is at it's best when it focuses on having it's own take on the source material.

However it didn't stay like that for long. We got a filler arc focusing on Beth being missing for a while. When that happened both the writing and the pacing took a hit. While weaker than it started off the season was still strong. I can't say the filler arc was great, but I was still invested in the characters and story.

This first half of season 5 did have it's flaws thanks to the Beth arc, but it ended on a shocking note. It also promises a great second half. One that will go back to following the comics. It did take a hit in quality thanks to the filler, so I had to update my review and lower my score a bit, but overall I still loved this season and can't wait for the second-half.

Even after the credits roll and you think it's once again safe to breathe, they latch on once more to provoke one more audible gasp.
Much of the drama comes from the "no one is safe" ethos that the show has built itself on. When things go wrong on a typical drama it may feel safe to assume nothing of major consequence will happen, even when the situation seems grim, but within the world of The Walking Dead there are no such guarantees. The season premiere is a shining example of the tension that can come from blurring these expectations. In fact, the episode is so well paced and so exhilarating and enthralling that it easy to overlook some of the inconsistencies, or less believable portions of the plot (which there are some).
With "No Sanctuary" The Walking Dead has hit the ground running this season. It will be interesting to see if they can now hold, and build upon this momentum, and avoid the inconsistencies that have plagued past seasons.

Easily the best zombie themed show on television. I'm a fan of the comic who loved when Darabont and Nicotero got ahold of the property. Although it deviates from the comic(IE Daryl was created for TV) it still retains the graphic novels it's based on look and feel. If you haven't read the comic, do so, and make sure to get "All Out War" parts one and two on shelves now.

This one hit all the sweet spots and hit them hard. Everything that is great about this show was showcased in 40 odd minutes of an emotional rollercoaster. The fans have evolved right along with Rick's character, and now scream for him to bite more throats.

A select few (two, by my count) moments broke my concentration, so this episode didn't earn the solid 10 it was so close to getting. On the one hand, the lack of main character deaths may seem unrealistic, but it's easy to forget what these characters have been through. They aren't afraid anymore; it's everything else that should fear them instead.

Season 5 is starting very strong. I don't remember another season premiere from this series that starts off the season this strong. Every character has their place, and there is no more beating around the bush with their character development. You know exactly what each character is bringing to the table and I like that. I also love how brutal some of the scenes are in this premiere. Including one scene which seemed especially brutal for The Walking Dead, and I loved every second of it. I'm through the second episode now, and you'll be guessing the whole time who is good and who is bad. And that's one of the main reasons why I enjoy it. When you meet a new character, you have to ask yourself just like the characters have to, "Do I trust this person?" After all, the only thing more scary in a post apocalyptic world than zombies are the people themselves.

My personal thought on the series is that Season 1 was very strong. Season 2 was weaker, but still to my liking (although many people got bored of the farm). Season 3 is where the show really fell off for me. They found their footing a little bit in Season 4 even though there were too many slow episodes. I have high hopes for this season, and from the trailers I've seen, and the plot lines that I know are coming; I'm expecting Season 5 to be the best season yet.

Right off the bat, this new season strongly hints that the series will continue to ruminate on primal sensations of fear and survival, but that it will be more content to allow action, as opposed to a plethora of argumentative moral debates, to speak to such existential matters.
