Unorthodox quirky little drama about a seemingly absurdly small premise/conflict which turns out to be only so on the surface. Sharp writing and good acting make this worth it if still somewhat overblown in its argument. What I liked most about this short run show was its jazzy tone.

This is such a piece of sh*t. Even with a talented cast and director it is still just a crap ripoff of the excellent Australian version. Oh yeah they can, it's called Hannibal. This show is almost as disgraceful as the US Rake. Expand

The first episode shows our society ills: spoiled kids, mom's who breast feed a child who is way too old, husbands who cheat with young girls. Why can't writers come up with something uplifting and the reader/viewer come away happy? Guess that is asking for too much?

Boring and stupid. The show is a daytime soap opera. The characters are just ridiculous. After watching three episodes deleted show from DVR. Lisa Cholodenko has done great work but this show is a joke.

This show is great and thought provoking. There should be more shows like this. I really hope it doesn't get cancelled. Please watch!! It delves into each character in separate episodes...very interesting!

I don't understand why the US re-made this series. The original book by Christos Tsiolkas is brilliant, as is the 2011 Australian TV series. While there is nothing particularly bad about the acting here, the characters are poorly drawn, and the direction is heavy-handed, leaving me as the audience little desire to invest in these characters or the remainder of the show. Additionally, a major underlying theme in the book and Australian TV series is a focus on race and class relations specific to Australian society. From viewing the first episode of the re-make, it feels that any adaptation of these themes appropriate to American society have been given short shrift for something that instead feels superficial and more like a soap opera than anything else. I admit I was intrigued when I read the description of this show. I can't honestly say it is the worst thing I have ever seen on television but it is definitely in the bottom 5, only redeemed by the actors attached to it. Unfortunately, good actors and an interesting sounding premise can't overcome pretentiously bad execution. I would have to be slapped unconscious to watch any more episodes. Even hate watching and hate tweeting is fun for only so long which I proved by watching Peter Pan Live once and only once. I wonder if someone threatened to slap NBC president, Bob Greenblatt if he didn't air this drivel? . Expand

It is not just the fact that the actual premise is interesting yet a tad silly, the important matter is that this single slap saved our main character from collapsing his own life over. Despite, I think they make up a big fuss over nothing; the kid was annoying and deserved it. So now just wait for the cliches to overflow and spoil this series.

Thankfully this is a miniseries it will soon pass and they'll put something passable in its place. Such filth should not be on tv. Don't they have any sense come on . this is so boring it should have been pulled after second episode. I am totally amazed they didn't start a long protracted story like Revenge half way thru the second episode.

I have been seeing the ads for this show so I tried to watch it. After about 1 minute I could see how the producers have taken a very serious issue and turned it into a joke. First you have to have decent actors. You cannot have a terrible child actor at the center of any show much less one with this serious of an issue for its basis. In the one minute I watched it showed a terribly spoiled little brat stomping around demanding something about a spear and the parents acting like the kid had just asked for the nuclear launch codes and their lives had ended. Please stop with the bad tv! This is why so many people are going to Netflix. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First two episodes I thought I'd like it. Not so. It disintegrated quickly. I got bored with the hysteria around what appeared to be a terrible event that should have been settled in a therapists office. The kid, the patents and the offender all needed more than a court case could ever settle. The last episode was good until the very end. It seemed like they just ran out of time and the judges ruling eas just plain silly and unlikely. Expand

THE SLAP is boring, pointless, and stupid. I was bored out of my mind and couldn't even make it past half of the pilot without stopping it. This show is way too boring.

NBC's new miniseries The Slap is a heavy-handed, button-pushing, endlessly irritating drama about a family that slowly unravels after a man slaps another's obnoxious child at a family party.

There is enough going on in The Slap without the addition of the narration, which is reminiscent of the voice over on Pushing Daisies and sounds like it's describing a comedy. Get rid of that smug, knowing narrator, The Slap can speak for itself.

It's not fully good by any means, but I will watch more episodes, and I'm interested how everything will get resolved. I'm more curious about the characters of The Slap than I am about the characters of, say, The Affair.
