    The reviews are filled with the usual subhumans crying about anyone who doesn’t look like them appearing on their little screams. If only this site had any semblance of moderation or cared at all about what these cretins smear all over the place. Oh well.

    The show itself is a 7-8 mostly out of my respect for the source material and hoping it actually hits on some of its potential down the line.

    Great atmosphere, visuals and acting. Great cast and the protagonist do a great job on portraying an eternal proud, yet gentle-somehow emotional, being. Prolly will get some hate from those people who want and at the same time don’t want copy&paste from original material. Happy to see DC can still throw good series even if the DC movie universe keep failing.

    I was expecting something much worse! Sandman is a really difficult comic book to translator into a TV show. But I really get the feeling that it is done with love and care. Also good cast, nice settings, good script. Couldn’t hope for more

    I went into this not knowing anything about it other than the creator is one of my wife's favorite authors. The first season was captivating and enjoyable, and I can't wait for the next season.

    Seems hilarious to me people review bombing because it’s “woke” like these people never read past the first trade!! So they changed the cast around to fit modern times… The point is the story is nearly a 1/1 of the comic. Like get over yourselves. Bunch of wimpy crybabies. Show was fantastic. Just superb.

The input of Gaiman kept the series from deviating too much, but people need to understand that he grew in the 30 years since the comic was written.     I don't know if I'll live long enough for anything to move me as Gaiman's Sandman has? Perhaps I won't. This will have to sustain me for the length of my days but I am confident it will. The power. The magic. The splendor. Everything about it transcends our little world and makes us somehow a part of the Universe of the Endless.

I’m sure the whiners would be whining about the casting choices of the Audible edition too if they had the patience to consume the story in that medium.

    Those that desperately seem to want the “original” Sandman sans less “wokeness”, seems to ignore how progressive Sandman was at the time: it depicted “foreigners” and other sexualities and ways to live that was rarely seen at the time in the comic medium. Now Gaiman had the chance to green light further changes in that direction and humanity progresses a little further in understanding itself.

    Also, guys: you realize that the whole thing is made up right? The fact you’re more obsessed with the fake “straight white man bad” narrative than some of the actual outright departures from “canon” shows your colors are more political in nature than any real care you have for the story.    … Expand

    The Netflix series "Sandman" was produced by Warner Bros. Studios based on the eponymous comic book published by DC Comics. The series turned out to be the only successful attempt from the numerous previously made adaptations of the original source. Apparently, the author Neil Gaiman himself played an important role in this, who became a co-author of the script for the series and an active participant in Production.

    The series appears to be a Dark Fantasy, but upon closer examination, one can see a diverse range of genres, from melodrama like "P.S. I Love You" to a bloody Tarantino-style thriller. It encompasses gothic darkness, moments of a fairy tale, blood-chilling horrors, family drama, cabaret scenes, black humor, and a lot of grunge-style. Neil Gaiman's plot twist is what only Neil Gaiman knows.
    All the characters in Sandman, like most of Gaiman's characters, are described in the characteristic handwriting of the author. Each character is unique, captivating the imagination and leaving a lasting impression with their portrayal. Throughout the 11 episodes, new characters appear on the screen one after another, breaking your stereotypes. They can surprise even the most seasoned viewers and fantasy genre enthusiasts. Neil Gaiman doesn't rely on clichés. Could Lady Brienne from Game of Thrones and Lucifer Lord of Hell have the same face? Maybe, you'll see that.

    The contrast between the twilight of traditional London and the flashy American style further emphasizes the confrontation between Morpheus and his former creation and the main antagonist of the series, the Corinthian. Here you can make a reference to "American Gods", which unfolds the confrontation between the ancient Gods and the glossy modern Gods in the style of American Hollywood.
    It is worth noting that the plot is imprisoned in the standards of the trends of modern serials, without which today's Western cinema industry is probably impossible. It may seem that there is too much with some of the “mandatory” elements of modern cinema, as if the creators of “The Sandman” between the lines are silently saying: “yes, yes, look, we have a lot of this.” Whether you see it or not, whether there are hints there or not, it is impossible to say for sure.     It is worth recognizing that the creators of the series still managed to pick up the cast. And they took their time doing so; for example, the casting for the lead role lasted for 8 months. In the acting of the family of immortals: Death, Passion, Suffering and Fate, outstanding stage abilities are not noticeable, but this does not mean that the viewer will remain indifferent. Let's take an episode of Morpheus's walk with his sister Death around the city. Was it an actor's performance by Death? Perhaps what we see is an ordinary person with empathy towards others.

    In the worlds of Neil Gaiman there is always a place for deep meaning, allusions, irony, feelings and unpredictable twists. The Sandman series is no exception. This is a very exciting dive into the wilds of the human imagination, where much can resonate within yourself.

    I read the comics and as a reader I feel the adaptation was pretty solid. It was amazing most of the time with a few missteps here and there. The best thing is: most of us, fans, feared the series would suck, it does not and that is huge. Such a rich source material deserved a proper adaptation and Netflix delivered it.

    Wow. This is so much better than I thought it would be. They did a great job of trimming down the story to give you an entertaining narrative that captures the spirit of the comics. This may be one of the best adaptations from comics to screen I have seen. As an old time fan of the comics, I wish they had cast Death as an 80's goth girl.     What a tv show...first i love the actors. The main character is played by a very talented, born for this role actor. Most of the evil characters are 10/10, well written and with complex motivation and background. The cgi is meh in some places but great in others. The main plot is good and it has beautiful moments. I was extremely excited when the television adaptation of the comic book was announced, and I was eagerly awaiting its release. My expectations were immense; these have been largely exceeded. The Sandman by Netflix is ​​a delight for neophytes as well as regulars of the graphic novel.
    The adaptation is prodigious. Everything is fabulous and smoothly conducted.
    My main concern was about the appearance of the protagonist who, in the comics, has a somewhat original physique. However, Tom Sturridge plays "Morpheus" wonderfully. He IS Morpheus, in his voice, his gestures, his physique. The cast is very great. I'm thinking of the "Corinthian" (Boyd Holbrook) who seems straight out of a case, or the excellent Gwendoline Christie, interpreter of the terrible "Lucifer Morningstar".
    The photography and staging are exquisite, especially the breathtaking dream realm shots, helping to set the overall mood, because that's the power of this adaptation. This bizarre, dreamlike, flirting atmosphere between the disturbing and the magnificent specific to Gaiman's productions hovers over the series. I am thinking in particular of the episode "24 hours" which alone justifies viewing the series. The soundtrack is not left out either; David Buckley won with tremendous work through his art.
    Unfortunately, and since nothing is perfect, I can't help but notice the forced and awkward inclusivity. Inclusiveness is good, but not like this. Inclusiveness is representing everyone, not just one side. Every romantic relationship is gay, and if it's straight, it's deeply dysfunctional. On the contrary, and this is the irony, the comics involve certain LGBT characters in several brilliant issues. No need to force, let the adaptation do its job.

    Gripping from the beginning to end. It filled me with a mixture of different emotions from start to finish. Anger, Sadness, happiness, disgust and surprise to name a few. Which in my opinion is what a TV show is meant to do. I am a fan of the show Lucifer on Netflix and find myself gravitated towards shows that portray Satan and other such beings as I find it fascinating. Which in my opinion is what a TV show is meant to do. The portrayal of Satan/ Lucifer by Gwendoline Christie is refreshing, as I believe it depicted that from the comics very accurately. There are some great acting performances across each episode. The stand out for me was that of David Thewlis who portrayed John Dee (Doctor Destiny). He really got you understanding why he was doing what he did and even agreeing with him.     I haven't read the comics, but I will now. The series does jump around from story to story (some episodes are more back-to-back than others), and the stories are beautiful. I loved the imagery and the characters were fantastic.

    I had a lot of concerns going into this, but enjoyed it more than expected. The lead does an excellent job of portraying Dream. Some of the other casting choices were not as successful. Still, what had always been regarded as an unfilmable work has been brought to screen largely successfully. But it's great fun, in the sense you discover that a lot of clichés about our life have no base, and that dreams, nightmares, fears, etc. have a lot to say about us. It is good to live in dreams, a little bit, not all the time.     For those on here complaining about changes to the source material, race and gender swapping etc…Neil Gaiman wrote the series with Goyer. Your complaints are ludicrous to the point of idiocy and actually suspect. Despite the series imperfections and issues (the last 4 episodes are substantially weaker than those previous imo), I’m so glad we saw this realized.

    I liked it a lot - as a fan of the comic I think the show really nailed the adaptation part. There are some slow moments (teh first episode stands out as one such) that could make it hard for new viewers to get attached, but if they pass that hurdle - it's a great show.
    Except for those pacing problems and minor grievances (a bit of the CGI is not as good as in the rest of the series, one    I liked it a lot - as a fan of the comic I think the show really nailed the adaptation part. There are some slow moments (teh first episode stands out as one such) that could make it hard for new viewers to get attached, but if they pass that hurdle - it's a great show.

    I had a lot of concerns about this adaptation. Although it has the dreary Netflix style, the first two episodes have been good overall. The story is surprising in some ways, deviating a little from the original one but still being interesting. Hope the rest of the season follows this approach.

    Very exciting for fans of the comics, it's a dream to see this materialised as a big budget show. However, too much green-screens and cgi and adaptation decisions that reminds you frequently this is a "Netflix" production.

    I had a great time with the first 6 episodes, but episodes 7 through 10 were absolutely awful, cringey, and boring. Do yourself a favor and stop watching after episode 6 and hope that the next season is similar to the first half of this one, otherwise it won't be worth a watch.

    I'm halfway through the season so I feel qualified to give an opinion....yeah its good. Not amazing, but definitely watchable. An over reliance on sub par looking CG does make the show feel a bit cheap. The acting is good, Sturridge is a bit one note though, which makes it feel hard to connect with him. Patton Oswalt's raven sidekick feels straight out of a Disney movie. So the show definitely has its flaws.

    It feels most similar to American Gods, another show that I enjoyed but got sick of past its first season. I hope the season finishes on a strong note.

    I'm really enjoying it. Dream is perfectly cast. Is it a shot for shot recreation of the graphic novel, but it's very engaging. The only criticism I have is the main arc. I enjoyed the tangents far more than the main story, which was about Rose Walker (who was kind of obnoxious tbh).

Nice graphics and images and pretty good adaptation of the original story, with some slight alterations. I was ok with Lucifer's female depiction, but I was disappointed with Constantine's appearance as a female witch. I mean, not every male character has to change into a female one, in orderSandman along with Lucifer and Constantine, are in my top favorite comics. The TV show wasn't bad. Nice graphics and images and pretty good adaptation of the original story, with some slight alterations. I was ok with Lucifer's female depiction, but I was disappointed with Constantine's appearance as a female witch.     I'm gay, and I think this show has too many gay characters. And besides that, it's kind of a mess. Some of it is great, much of it ridiculous, and all of it disjointed. It felt like they couldn't decide on what to do ahead of time.

    +1 for the cat story though.

But in fact this is heavy handed, pretentious and rather boring. The comic book, with its unusual ways of storytelling, changing artists and bold play with myths und narratives, felt like a gate to a whole new world. The TV series isTechnically, this is a faithful adaptation of one of the most innovative and most influential stories in pop culture, well made and a feast for genre- fans. But in fact this is heavy handed, pretentious and rather boring. The comic book, with its unusual ways of storytelling, changing artists and bold play with myths und narratives, felt like a gate to a whole new world. The TV series is just another one of these franchises post -"0arry Potter". It drops the ecclecticism and the avantgarde, doubles down on the thin storylines under all the metanarratice and the attitude (Gaiman`s greates weaknesses), and some of the rather small changes change the mood and style IMHO beyond repair (it`s not a problem, that death is now a POC, it IS a problem that she isn`t aloof). The comic book has some of the most iconic and ironic dialogues in the realm of fantasy, here they are alonst always very, very serious statements about gods who are more than gods and how everyone lost their magic things. Coleman and Thewlis were fun.… Expand

    Lavishly mounted production with uneven storytelling. The forced diversity feels contrived on large, tho Death is great (episode 6 is excellent) and Jenna Coleman captures the Constantine character on film better than any other so far. Unfortunately the last 4 episodes are terrible, like an insipid YA story, and a struggle to get through. What a shame.

    This show demonstrates some of the most potential in a show I have seen in a long time. The idea of other worldly beings, different realms and takes on human life is amazing, but this is rarely pushed.

    However, the main issue is creativity. This show gets stuck around places in London, the USA and Green Fantasy field worlds. They show you briefly some gargoyles, a pumpkin man, demons but they really had the opportunity to push these worlds.

    Thinking about people dreams have people flying, being in movies, doing magic, confronting issues, going through space, travelling to odd spaces that aren’t real. Again, with (Warner Brothers) being the people in charge this is barely touched.

    Additionally, in a bid to represent people they fill miss the mark, we seen an entire lack of diversity in a culturally respect. Anyone from a different country or accent would be interesting, or even a country beyond the USA or UK. Covering people from different countries and different parts of the world would really help reach their diversity in a natural way.

    Overall, this is enjoyable, but this rarely hits the heights is could.

    It started out great and peaked at ep6. From 7 to 10 it began to check a lot of uninteresting boxes, acting went down and I just stopped caring where the story went. The "boss fight" at the end is ridiculously boring... Rose Walker's storyline just seemed pointless compared to everyone else's. .

    Some Visuals looked great, some didn't, the color grading could've been better, I guess a more darker tone would've felt right. I felt like something was missing in the entire season, I understand it's more about philosophy than just action/magic, but I had much higher expectations.

    The second half (Ep7-10) was just bad. First 6 episodes made me an instant Sandman fan, then the rest episodes just killed that enthusiasm (I know that the comics is way different and much more expanded, and different, I'm not comparing). The weaker last four episodes could've been more interesting.

    I haven't read the comics (yet), but its on my reading-list. I am familiar with Neil Gaiman's works. I read Lucifer and American Gods.

    Let's see what more they bring to the story. And yes, WE WANT A JOHANNA CONSTANTINE SPIN OFF SHOW!    … Expand

The actor playing Dreams physically fits the role, but i find the voice horribly annoying (gravelly voice is so 2008) and his general presence to be very underwhelming.     Start was promising and Morpheus was portrayed properly but the aimless meandering and subpar acting by side characters make it hard to get through. They needed to cast better actors that can pull you into Fantasy. Joanna Constantine remains unexplored and feels childish most of the time.
    Dialogue is average at best and clunky at worst. Nothing that is said stands out.

    Also there's a HUGE amount of SJW propaganda, which, without exaggeration, truly is the series' M-O. Almost every character that isn't gay or black is either an as*hole or just stupid and irrelevant. Dream is an obvious exception, but for some reason pretty much everyone around gives him a flak. Despite being incarcerated for over a century, everyone gives him sh*t as if he voluntarily abandoned his kingdom.

    More than that, the creators contradict themselves on numerous occasions, such as with Johanna. Her character is introduced to us as this strong, independent type woman, who cares a lot about money and very little about what others think of her. Yet, within the very same episode, we see her waking up at her home in the middle of the night with a full make up on and an impeccable hairstyle, which not only makes no sense whatsoever, but is also clearly aimed at appeasing straight male audience.

    The series has some good aspects about it. The aforementioned trio of actors is great, the music is fine, the visuals are ok too. But there's not much to it beyond that.    … Expand

    But if it's not for long time fans of the series, then who is it for?
    If you are going to copy scenes panel for panel, then why make all the other sweeping changes? The first 5 episodes are pretty great. But why take everyone's favorite grizzled, foul-mouthed, cig smoking, Brit in John Constantine and replace him with the Cute-As-A-button Dr Who companion? Why take such a visually compelling Character like Death and just cast some in-vogue POC? Why does every character need to have a sex scene? Are all writer's just perverts now? And where is this series trademark ethereal vibes? Patton Oswald is the voice of Dream's Raven Matthew. And They couldn't have picked a more distracting voice actor. Basically everything other than Morpheus himself is wrong.
    Each time Matthew speaks it just completely takes me out of the show.
    I don't care if this was supervised by Niel Gaiman himself. The dude has lost it. And sold out. Then he goes on twitter and makes fun of someone for saying it looks woke. It's 100% absolutely woke.
    Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have not read the comic, I went into this only experiencing the show as is. As a show based in the real world it ignores a lot of real world problems and history.

    We have an unproportioned number of gay relationships and the way people of history treat people of colour is very incorrect. This causes the world to be very forced to be something that it is not. They have many talented black actors which some of which are my favourite characters, but I am also against race and gender swapping in storytelling. I feel it is a cheap way to fill in a "diversity quota" Which is very annoying because they have created such good black characters.

    Now there is an issue with the past. In the past it was very normal to be racist and this was only explored very slightly in the film; with the immortal man once being slave trader. So, there was obvious race issues going on, yet the whole show ignored it. I find this very bad story telling. Ignoring major social issues in the past and to prop up how far society as a whole has come is very disrespectful. These things make a more believable world and enrich the story so much further, yet it was completely ignored like it never happened.

    People of colour as a whole in a western society has had a very rocky start and people of all races band together to try and stop this and all that progress is ignored in this world. instead, it's a push to show people all that never existed?

    Then there is a large portion of people who are just non straight. As a bi man myself I felt very uncomfortable with the false narrative that this the world I live in. I am not saying there is no gay people, but when pretty much the majority of relationships in the show were gay, it is just so out of touch with reality. Especially with the beginning of a black man and a white man not only being interracially together but also being gay in the first half of the 1900s. That being accepted by everyone around them was so weird to see.

    Then the show also has a lot of gender swapped characters. Like i said before any race or gender swapping is terrible for pretty much everyone. Build strong characters for those actors and instead of trying to fill the roles with others.

    Now the story of the show is 2 main plot points. Which could have easily been broken up into 2 seasons and build up a lot more. There is a lot of major plot scenarios solved very quickly or left out for large parts of the season to come back later on with no real reason. The show is a bit messy and the passing is all over the place.

    If you have nothing else to watch, then I would still say watch it. But if you have a list of things you are waiting to watch, just ignore this show. I would assume a second season could be a possibility but a third is unlikely. I don't see this show going any further than it already has.    … Expand

    It is worth mentioning, that I am a massive Sandman comics fan and I have quite an emotional connection with the source material.     It is worth mentioning, that I am a massive Sandman comics fan and I have quite an emotional connection with the source material. The way it was „improved” has not irked me, cause it was exactly as one would expect in the current year, given the company that has released the show. In a way, „predictable” is a very apt word for the show. It is a typical Netflix slop, wearing a skinsuit of its brilliant source material. There’s a lot of CGI, subwoofer sound effects and questionable casting choices. The dialogues are as one would predict in the current year, ticking all the boxes. The race and gender swaps are as one would predict in the current year, ticking all the boxes.

    The original comic storyline is relentlessly blended into a script that is both hectic and sluggish. The showrunners rush straight off the gate blending comic episodes one to five into just the first two episodes. The time saved on character development is spent on charmlessly introducing many altered characters. Anybody, who has seen more than one Netflix show, will easily recoginse them all. They are the typical cast of corporate archetypes, wearing some semblance of persons mentioned in the Sandman comics.
    The main character is played by an actor, who looks great on stills and handles well Morpheus’s aloofness, bar his gravitas. A pleasant stand-out so far is the Cain and Able’s actors, whose storyline follows the original well thus far and are as one would imagine them reading the comic. Rest of the characters are either ephemerae with little screen time, or charisma voids readng the Netflix script, not bothered with the setting all that much, Charles Dance, for example, belongs to the former cathegory. For an actor mentioned all over the promotional material, he gets less than five minutes of presence in the entire show leaving it with a whimper. Constantinette is the example of later. She is a token girlboss, damned be the setting. Her presence is justified by showing the original constantine as a drunk, bumbling loser laying on the floor in stupor. She also puts out a stereotypical cockney accent, has a gun and has a house full of artifacts pertaining to daemons, so she is THE Constantine in the show. Also, as opposed to the comic Constantine, she has no moments of weakness or levity. She is always coldly in total control of every situation she is in.
    As said previously - predictable.
    She is one of many swapped characters, and I can only expect such quality in the future ones too, would I decide to continue watching. A character, I am hopeful for is Dr D. While some of his particulars were changed likely due to copyright disputes, he plays a bitter madman quite well thus far. An absolute nightmare (!) is the Corynthian. He makes an excellent lesser villain appearing later in the comic, where his aura of threat and dread is built by his sparse appearances - only to visit horrible (PG 18+ and a media outrage) violence upon others. In the show, he is the major vilain, and a sort of evil Yoda/Gandalf type of character, who appears to give the villain of the episode (and likely the viewer) exposition on what in the hell is happening and summarise character’s motivations. Also, as opposed to being a gruesome monstrosity of the original, he is just a dude. Kind of wacky, bumbling type of bloke, wearing a funny hat to boot. We know he is evil, cause he explicitly says he has an evil plan and he flashes his monstrous eyes, even though he takes no action to prove it. Well, he comes to villains’ houses gives them quick rundowns on story thus far. Ah, and yes. He gets girlbossed too. Big time.
    Warts and all, he seems to be doing a crucial service to new viewers. No person, without the knowledge of the original, would physically be able to follow the plot. It is a convoluted mess with an avalanche of bland characters doing things for reasons in places. Speaking of places, good half of them are Netflix-quality CGI and more than half of them (especially the physical ones) are in the absolute abyssal darkness. I believe the lightman needs to either be fired, or given a raise. Due to his work, Netflix could hire just five actors to play everybody in the same office room and no viewer would notice the difference. The savings man offers, may deserve him a larger cut of the revenue.
    If I was to extrapolate, from what I have seen thus far, I believe the show will go down the Witcher route and become a Netflix background play#4134 subverting the expectation and roaming free of the original material.
    All in all, I am still debating, whether to continue watching or not. On one hand hand, I do not want to remember my beloved series as what it had been made into. On the other hand,the corporate Sandman does what he does best. Puts people to sleep.    … Expand

    If the godawful CGI won't kill it for you, the narration surely will: every scene is explained, except for the plot patches that can't be explained, because they are not in the source material.     I feel like i rewatched "game of throne" last season again, The first 3 episodes are Amazing 10/10, then.. it's getting worst & worst each episodes... I gave up episode 9. It's such a shame to have such a nice start and to waste it like that. My others biggest problem is the quotas. There is 80% Lgbt couple and 80% Black/Asian actors, like ok it's cool but dont push it to hard. Everything is out of place, everything is at least a little bit... wrong. The narrative is jumbled and the biggest loss is that of mood. For one of the most renowned examples of well constructed atmosphere in comics, this adaptation is really a let down. Congratulations, I was expecting to be disappointed, from what I'd already seen from the trailers, but "disappointment" is too weak a word for what I feel right now. This is dumbing down taken to an art form. I feel sorry for Neil Gaiman, he doesn't deserve this.… Expand

It played right into my interest in the occult of the time, and fed it. Sandman felt like something adult, deep, philosophical. Every other superhero comics felt shallow, mainstream.

It feels like a post apocalyptical world in which White and straight people had their time and were done with. If that has always been Neil Gaiman's intention, then I feel I was duped back in 1989. But it's ok. Now it's out in the open; now we can work to salvage whatever is still salvageable.    … Expand

What works in a compressed form like comics does not work in live action. Characters just stand around and talk. That's all they do. It's all exposition and constant yapping. The source material itself is weak and appeals to the childish or people who dont want to read or think too hard. Its campy and even cringe at times.     In the end it´s a very lame story and very lame acting. But I enjoyed seeing Stephen Fry again. And one remark: using a distorted picture the whole time is no artistic style, it´s just annoying.

    They made DCs John Constantine a woman, gay, and gave her an interracial relationship to boot. Anyone saying it's faithful to the comics has never read the comics, and the writing is motivated by woke politics. Wanted to enjoy this but it is impossible.

    Why can't Netflix just stick to the source material? They could have had a superb show but completely ruined it! Another problem that I really couldn't get over is the fact that they had to make it "woke". The characters were clearly described and Netflix simply ignored that to appease the "woke" crowd. I think it's time for Netflix to wake up and realize why they're losing so many subscribers.

    Is this enough to the people writing the script? Nope.
    Enter JOHANNA Constantine. Yes, a woman. A lesbian one, at that. And very ethical and moral too. Dabbles with demons, but she's a good girl. After all, women can't be evil except when forced to be so by men, the scourge of the Earth....
    If aliens got to Earth and watched this they would be certain of two things regarding sexuality: half of the population is not heterosexual - and the other half would be bisexual if allowed to do so.
    Don't get me wrong, I advocate live and let live. But there is no country in the world with that proportion of non heterosexuals.
    Then there is the historical revisioning.
    During the XIV to XVI centuries black people in the UK (and Europe in general) did not occupy positions of importance, nor were them among the well-to-do or even rich.
    Portraying them so is a disservice to kids - and to black people, as their plight in European lands is at least severely diminished, if not erased.    … Expand

    Fans of Gaiman's original graphic works are not going to be happy with the changes that have been made in this interpretation because they have been provided many significant reasons to be displeased.

    It's actually difficult to believe Gaiman is as comfortable with this reimagining of his work as he claims.

    Regarding the other contents... The costume and set design are intricate and very beautiful.

    Alas, it is not good enough to carry the story.

    Put another way, if this were being assessed the way you judge a painting, you'd like it a lot more.

    The acting is challenging to review because the quality is very inconsistent.

    Without naming names, some members of the cast were clearly not selected based on their acting abilities.

    In the end, this is a tragic misstep, made with an intellectual property that had enormous potential.

    Tragically, it will only be remembered as another example of writers refusing to respect the much loved stories and fans they seek to exploit for profit.

    Why studios continue to adopt this approach when it inevitably fails remains a mystery to me.    … Expand

    Like the worst of series, The Sandman draws you in in the first couple of episodes, then draws out characters in a tedious and lengthy manner before evolving into a children's TV series. By the eighth episode I was skipping through each episode for any sign of improvement. Sadly there was none!

In my personal opinion, don't waste time on such garbage. Time is more valuable than these things.
    I also read about the new Lord of The Rings series which I had been looking forward too but I can already tell is going to be horribly woke as well.
    When is this trend going to end? So sad.

    Well this show is nothing like that.

    It is just cheesy and overtly camp nonsense with a lot of terrible actors who have been completley miscast.

    And also some cringey and pointless cabaret singing moments sprinkled in because sure, why the hell not.

    There are some good actors and a few scenes that were OK but overall this was just a bad, campy pantomime.

    It was a fast decision to stop watching this show. I know nothing about the source material and just hopped in. The show tried not one second to take me with it and after showing off some predictable characters it got boring. After some more boring steps the show seemed to be about a poor rich boy with a evil father and the boy finding his lover.     At its best, the show is strong fantasy entertainment that functions as a great introduction to Gaiman’s writing. But the barrier to entry is high, and the cost of jumping into such an intricate saga might be too much for some.

    “The Sandman” stands out visually. A parade of fine actors — Joely Richardson, Charles Dance, Stephen Fry — weave in and out, with David Thewlis particularly strong as an escaped mental patient. Still, the show remains comic-book thin on character and plot conveniences are everywhere. “The Sandman” dreams of being more than it is, but it’s still pretty good.
