There are 6 eps and each one tells the origin story from a different angle; both founders, the coder, the attorney, the industry exec and an artist affected by the service. There's no real tension or compelling drama here, it's mostly seeing the interactions and subsequent developments. Watching the whole process over several years and numerous setbacks makes for fascinating storytelling effectively told with involving characters. Expand

As far as I'm concerned, I really don't like it when something that needs real exploration only gets a superficial treatment.

The Playlist follows the trend of creating series and films about entrepreneurs of the most powerful companies in the world, and in this case focuses on the one that changed the music business, for better and for worse.

To some extent its development is quite interesting and in others it feels quite unfocused.
There are some things that work and some things that don't.

I admit that my interest was more focused on other elements rather than the biopic/fiction that is presented and perhaps it plays a bit of bias on my part in the final results, but it is what it is.

Its final episode closes with a sort of epilogue set in 2025 which is when the story barely seems to address the actual heart of the matter, however as the saying goes, too little, too late.

It may lead to a conversation at the end of it, but it's not like someone will actually going to do anything.
