This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers: It starts as a drug killing in the ghetto turning into a crusade against a pill mill. Only 4 episodes long and quite well-done production-wise. What I couldn't bring myself to do was like or even empathise with Dan. Kids just don't become drug addicts by themselves. An unhappy home is nearly always the root. You can sense this with Dan's pushy, self-centred grandiose personality, but his home life is never presented as all American happy families. Don’t buy that for a second The murder is solved and then sort of forgotten about, no explanation or anything as to why? Very strange
We then move on to oxycontin abuse perpetrated by one particularly dreadful doctor. Dan and his weird accent, bad grammar and general boorishness makes a nuisance of himself and she gets done eventually with a suspended sentence which would have happened with or without him. The justice system is useless but tell me something I didn't know.

Oxycontin's is badly regulated. The doctor prescription system is inherently flawed but that's not examined. Oxycontin’s benefits to real chronic pain are a gift from God but these are not shown only its abuse. The reasons for the abuse are never not investigated which is a soulless society of despair. THat’s the root of addiction and this is never addressed. It's all a bit propagandistic with God thrown in on top.

A pretty good documentary, well made and edited. The way a dad tracks the decay of his son and community through prescription opioids. Netflix does these shows like nobody else, because they are not fed by advertising dollars. Yay.
