The New Outer Limits series is one of THE BEST Sci Fi Anthology series to appear on T.V. . Whoever cancelled it should be fired. The writingThe New Outer Limits series is one of THE BEST Sci Fi Anthology series to appear on T.V. . Whoever cancelled it should be fired. The writing in the episodes was a cut above the New Twilight Zone, which seemed more one note to me in its pessimistic outcomes. Bring the uncensored version back !!!!! Full Review »

The modern incarnation of The Outer Limits is in my opinion the single most underrated anthology show ever made. People don't seem to rate itThe modern incarnation of The Outer Limits is in my opinion the single most underrated anthology show ever made. People don't seem to rate it alongside the X-Files or the original TOL, but it stands up quite nicely in terms of effectiveness. In fact, at its best this show pretty much beats all.

The focus is on science-fiction stories, and one clear advantage this series has over the original is a wealth of new sci-fi tropes to draw upon compared to the sixties. There are a few stabs at horror/fantasy a-la Twilight Zone, but producer Brad Wright clearly has no illusions about the show's inner nerdiness.

With seven seasons at twenty-aught 50-minute episodes apiece, there is an absolute wealth of stories to see. Some are bad; most are good; some are mind-blowing. There is no shortage of dark endings and innovative surprise twists, and the emphasis on interesting storytelling goes a long way towards making you forget that this is a sci-fi show with a less-than sci-fi production budget. Regardless of the results, you generally come out with the feeling that the makers of this show are making a genuine, earnest effort to tell a quality story.

Do yourself a favor, check this show out. As with most anthologies, there's simply no way to watch one episode and get a sense of whether you like the whole series... All I can say is you can't go too long without finding one you'll like. My personal favourites through season 2 are "Quality of Mercy," "Trial by Fire," "The Deprogrammers" and "I Hear You Calling."
