Finished e4 and it makes zero sense that someone with his background, patience, wealth, knowledge would allow some random woman to threaten to exhort him for half his money. Dumb. Didn't bother finishing it.

Drags a bit in the middle to late episodes with backstory and a love tale that means nothing at the end. John Lithgow is fantastic in this, Bridges is the perfect choice, however I'm not an Alia Shawkat at all and her performance here is a fair rendition as to why. At the end you're stuck scratching your head a bit with the choice of conclusion, but i'd say it's worth the wait. Expand

Writers and directors should respectWhile Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are phenomenal actors, the pacing of the show was too slow to be anything other than boring. I, and I guess many people, have limited time to devote to watching a show. Writers and directors should respect that and tell a good story that moves along at a reasonable pace. Drawn out scenes with characters engaging in mundane activities are boring and pointless. We all know people have to use the bathroom, prepare food and drive down the road. We all do these things most days. It is not necessary nor is it interesting for characters to engage in these activities on TV. What I see happening is there isn't much story, so they are filling in time with boring filler material. This is pointless and absurd and makes a boring show. I'm not saying a show should be all explosions and car chases. But you need to move the plot along without filling in time with mundane activities. Expand

The pilot was terrific. Unfortunately, the remainder of the show was incredibly dull and filled with long, drawn-out dialog scenes. Shame.

Despite a few flat spots this is a well-made and suspenseful thriller that benefits from it's quality cast and strong direction. Will be interesting to see were this is heads in it's second season.

Much loved actors with the perfect vehicle to preserve their legacy take turns running one another over. Even when they work well together, it's too in service to their glorification to do justice to the vicissitudes of pointlessness and indifference otherwise bedeviling fallen hero cycles. The unbearable flatness of being just falls flat in the hands of these screen darlings. Expand

Great award winning actors with a refreshing spy movie. Has a deep story with flash backs that bring the story together. Action is great and depth of characters is weak written. Can't wait to watch the whole season

Leading the search is his previous boss (John Lithgow). While there's one well-staged violent encounter in every episode, this is mostly about character interaction. Fortunately, the writing keeps it interesting and the solid performances make it compelling. The agent's two loyal and well-trained dogs are almost characters too. While there are extended periods of dialogue and more action would add to the tension, this is still a well-crafted spy drama. (Review based on 4 out of 7 one-hour eps with new ones dropping every Thursday. Already renewed for a 2nd season.) Expand

Good first season, intense first episode. The cast is perfect. A series that will appeal to fans of Homeland, Berlin Station and Tehran.

By the end of episode one, I was rushing to see what happened next.

Had I not seen the trailer and knew nothing about the plot, I would still be laser-focused on this story just from watching the first ten minutes. Jeff Bridges' performance, as usual, has a magnetic draw to the character and story. The lovable actor John Lithgow raises the intrigue and intensity to an already interesting first episode. Vague conversations tend to be annoying unless you have two talented actors like Bridges and Lithgow, who have a great back-and-forth dynamic. The Old Man is whatever spy thriller you have loved in the past on steroids. Fingers are crossed, and my hopes are high for the upcoming Sylvester Stallone crime drama Tulsa King, but until then, The Old Man may end up being the best series to watch this year. As always, if you made it this far, thanks for reading, and if you watch this series, let me know what you think.

Keep it interesting, Stay Channel Surfing!

One of the most intelligently written shows with surprisingly explosive moments of action or dialogue I have ever seen. I've never watched a show (or movie) with so many instances of dialogue that were thought-provoking, emotionally and intellectually stimulating, and more impactful than the best action scenes. I'd give it a 10 if it weren't for the final episode. Expand

In its best moments, the contrast becomes hilariously funny, like when he makes a woman fall in love with him by cooking with the demeanor of a french chef, and the meal he cooks is scrambled eggs. But unfortunately, it is just a bit tedious most of the time.

The premise, a flawed aged ex agent fighting against the ghosts of his past, was effective. I enjoyed it most when it was about an old man not only struggling with the youngsters but also looking back at his past with doubts and regrets.

However, when it took a turn for a spy thriller with clever turns and twists it somehow lost me. For a few hours of decent entertainment it was fine, but I had hoped for more, especially since Jeff Bridges is actually great in this role.

I won't watch a second season.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand
