"Critics" give it a 6.9, the actual audience gives it a 2.8.

    That should tell you something.

Not to mention, that apparently stereotypes are perfectly alright....as long as they're about the Southern U.S. or white people in general.

    Very "progressive".

I absolutely hate this show, but I sill keep watching to see what unfunny crap he talks about next and each new episode I watch, the more I want to kick Larry's ass. Nothing on that show is funny at all and this channel is supposed to be about comedy. The way he mocks other people be pretending to talk like them and the stupid conversations he has with his pretend interviews with the people that work with him makes me want to just punch the TV till aftermath is a a finely grained mound of sand. I wonder how they can find an audience that would want to go see that crap live and actually like it. I'm guessing that they're all deaf and there is a sign that lights up when they are supposed to laugh. I hope I see Larry one day so I can tell him what people really think about his show. I also hope he doesn't get a second season. Expand

What an absolute mess of a show, Larry Wilmore was a weak addition to the Daily Show and a terrible replacement for Colbert, i honestly have no idea what they were thinking when they gave him this gig.

The least funny comedy show I have ever seen. Content relies heavily on Larry Wilmore being black and a lot of the things said are just inexcusably stupid.

Larry Wilmore is really passionate about racism... and that's about it. He's not funny enough to carry the show on satire, and the show isn't intelligent enough to carry itself on political commentary, insight, or discourse. The comparison isn't really fair, but the Colbert Report (whose time-slot this show has replaced) could handle both of those criteria with ease. Possibly the worst thing, though, is how the show has come to revolve around baseless round-table and irrelevant Q&A that the Daily Show and Colbert Report mocked so justly.

The show just isn't good. It's not funny, it's not intelligent, and it pales in comparison to predecessors who managed both.

I would say, yes, fine you're presenting the 'liberal' from their standpoint view of the story. But they are relentlessly racist, they have almost no white people on their show at any point, and often just disrespect that person. It's always a black panel, it's always the same guys opinion, who is him? I've never seen or heard of him. Just change the name to "The Racist Show with Political hack Larry Wilmore". The saddest, most pathetic half hour on television. The "Round Table" discusses the most inane topics, and his guests are either c-list, or his racist friends. Did I mention the Show is racist?...

The entire setup comes across as awkward. Larry Wilmore is at his best with race humor, but he goes overboard and often misses the mark, sometimes cringingly so. Plus, his non-race humor tends to be strained or flat. The panel is a mess and adds little to the show. I gave it time to find its feet, but it still hasn't.

It was initially depressing to watch how quickly the Larry Wilmore show descended into the most outrageous racism. One would like to believe, that of all people, Blacks would be the ones to say: "Enough!... It stops here! Too many have suffered for too long! But instead, we find ourselves watchingIt was initially depressing to watch how quickly the Larry Wilmore show descended into the most outrageous racism. One would like to believe, that of all people, Blacks would be the ones to say: "Enough!... It stops here! Too many have suffered for too long! Too many have worked for too long to put racism to bed forever! I will not participate!...." But instead, we find ourselves watching virulent hate and racist diatribe on TV that wouldn't ever have been acceptable in even 1955, Selma Alabama. A recent episode featured groups of Black men urinating on the heads of White men who they subsequently burned alive.

But there is epiphany to be gleaned here. By instantly transforming into the same "Bubbas" in pick-up trucks they are so fond of mocking, the folks on the Larry Wilmore show have clearly shown how little difference there is between them and the ultimate foolishness of racist thought. We are Them. They are Us. The main difference being the lack of self-awareness and recognition of their own screaming racism among the panel members on the show. I don't think "Bubbas in pick-up trucks" would be quite so surprised at having their racism pointed out as I suspect the members of the Wilmore show would be.

So, if not Blacks, who? Who will ultimately stand up and say no to racism? I guess that just leaves me. The end of racism, like the beginning of world peace, begins as a personal decision. I say no. I say it stops here. I say I won't participate any more than I'd allow a friend to go unchallenged if he/she was still doing the: **** **** **** that was so much the way of life in America for way too long. As much as I like Larry and Mike, I can no longer lend tacit support to their hatred and racist rant by watching.

I thought that it was alright at first, not great but funny at times. However, I have noticed that the show really preaches an anti-white sentiment, only focusing on racial issues or connecting issues to race, making the show rather stale and repetitive. He speaks against racism, yet only focuses on black issues, which shows that only that group matters.

The first few shows were only mildly bad. They definitely were never good, but they have got progressively worse over time as it's just the same exact thing over and over with him.

They try to make a lot of shows about race which is okay if the right person is doing it but he's as white as he is black (at *least*) and nothing he says seems to ring true with feeling. It all seems very forced. He's not just "light skinned" he's mixed race and hardly looks black, he has children that are so light you can't tell they have any black in them. He just has too much white in him to be believable as an angry oppressed black man. I'm fine with racial shows and issues, he's just not believable at all in that role, not even a little bit.

While I was able to watch him for some time - each and every show he grates on me a little more and gets more annoying. He even makes these little annoying "mmmmhhh" noises quite often that get more annoying as the shows go on. It's become like when you're dating someone (or married to) that chews with their mouth open and it just irks you more and more as you keep trying to deal with it day after day.

The "Panel" is crazy short, it's so short that they barely have time for each person to say a few words. Not only that but they usually have Larry, three people that agree with Larry, and one person from the opposite side. That's not a very balanced panel. Usually even the person from the other side is trying to be funny (and failing at it) so it's somewhat pointless anyway.

Pretty much every part of the show feels rushed as they try to fit in all the different parts of it. It's like a confused show that doesn't quite know what it's trying to be - or a show that should be two hours or so long and is trying to fit all that into 22 minutes.

"Keeping it 100" is just foolish. The audience doesn't even follow the rules, they clap for the answer they like no matter if it's true or not (it's supposed to be about being honest). Larry gives out Tea or a Sticker just about randomly instead of based on if they're telling the truth. When he goes to take the quiz himself, he almost never gives an honest answer, but nobody is there at the end to call him on it. He claims that he's getting a question that he has to answer, but he just skips answering or gives some cop out answer.

He isn't a natural at all. He seemed *slightly* okay at first, but the more you watch him the less likable he becomes. The show is an abysmal failure, I can't even stand to watch it any more. I did try to give it a chance, I watched 33 episodes before giving up, but the show is on a downward slope and just repeats itself too much.

It's not just boring, it's boring and also gets annoying after a while.

I understand people have different tastes, but I don't understand how anybody can watch this show and enjoy it. It's incredibly fake, forced, and awkward.

The whole panel format after the monologue with uniformed members trying to make jokes was a train-wreck from the get-go . I tried, I really tried, to like this show as I found Larry funny on the daily show. However, Larry's short segments on The Daily Show are not able to be stretched into a 30min show 4 nights a week. Jon Stewart, John Oliver, and Bill Maher are masters of taking news and making it hilarious by pointing out how it often flies in the face of common sense. You can watch The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, or Real Time and come away feeling both elated and edified--these shows feel refreshingly cogent and are a joy to watch.

Now, we know that these shows tend to slant to the left, but they rarely commit the sin of pandering. There's a certain level of respect for the viewer--issues are discussed thoughtfully and the writers have clearly taken the time to think of interesting and revealing takes. My litmus test for the level of respect these shows have for the viewer has been myself -- I'm conservative, but I still love these shows because they are usually extremely well thought out. They have universal appeal because they are following the rule of good political comedy -- respect your audience, don't pander, make good points.

Now, The Nightly Show seems to have sprung out of the ashes of The Colbert Report, which was itself a show made by taking a character from The Daily Show and giving him a full block of programming. The Colbert Report was funny because while it was usually a little bit lazier than Jon Stewart's block, it was silly and it was honest about it, and Colbert had ridiculous charisma. Colbert has that charisma where you just laugh at everything he says. I feel bad for Larry Wilmore, but he isn't nearly as charismatic as Colbert. At times (particularly when he pushes out a high-pitched "mmhmm!") he's even annoying.

That lack of charisma could be forgiven, however, if the writing wasn't so awful. I don't find John Oliver that funny, but Last Week Tonight is flat-out excellent because it has exceptional writing. Just as an example, Oliver has a bit where he talks about municipal violations for nearly 20 minutes--something as boring as traffic tickets makes for 20 minutes of enthralling programming because it's well researched and damn-well presented. Larry's team has done nothing but pander to the left with lazy, poorly thought out arguments that usually consist of injecting a buzzword and waiting for the audience to cheer or boo. There's no interesting research, nothing new or compelling, and he harps on the same issues every episode. Gay marriage, race, and abortion--every single episode--decidedly "won" liberal issues over and over again so the audience can feel good about themselves.

My overall impression from watching the show for a few weeks now is that it's just lazy. Comedy Central hasn't put the same amount of effort into this show as it has others and it shows so much. This show could be a winner if they stopped the blatant pandering and had some well thought out pieces--maybe get new writers--but for now, it seems like a dud.

I think the format is well done and I get what they're doing, but I'll bet they're under a huge microscope from the network and the things they've set up aren't playing out as well as they could. Perhaps the network is trying to keep the show playing nicely and safely.

I think the "Keep it 100 segment has HUGE potential for really getting great bites from the panelists, but the questions are often a little too soft or indirect. Many times, I'll turn to my wife with an alternate way of saying the same thing but in a way that wouldn't have a panelist trying to negotiate their answers. Alternatively, the panelists should be prepped ahead of time - maybe not with the "Keep it 100" questions, but with HOW the segment works - because it often starts off awkwardly and the show loses time by having to explain how the segment works to the panelists.

And that's the other glaring issue: the show always seems like it's trying to stay to time. This is something Larry can work on, but perhaps having one less panelist would aid in the flow a bit. 5 people trying to fill a 4.5 minute break with intelligent discussion is a tall drink of water. There's been a show or two where a panelist says little to nothing. Larry does a good job trying to pose questions to each panelist but sometimes another panelist wants to finish a thought from earlier or wants to talk about how that question relates to them and it falls apart. Larry does an okay job trying to mitigate this but again, the panelists could be coached by their publicists or even the producers of the show.

All in all, I love seeing Larry on TV and I think he keeps it 100 more than any panelist has on the show. I would just love to see the "Keep it 100" segment be more about people ACTUALLY keeping it 100, and less of a popular-answer competition. A lot of that segment seems to be majority rules. I wouldn't hate for Larry to be the deciding vote on whether or not someone kept it 100 rather than the audience.

I'm really ambivalent about it. It certainly doesn't have the snappy in your face entertainment value of Colbert, but the new format is interesting. The topics they take on are usually worthwhile, and Wilmore's perspective is fresh. But there are some serious issues.

For one, while panel discussions are cool, trying to do them in ten minutes of screen time often descends into precisely the sort of madness The Daily Show likes to parody. And their selection of guests varies from on-point to terrible. The comedians rarely bring much of anything; it's often a few genuine experts throwing out one intelligent talking point before being drowned out by weak attempts at parody. The show still hasn't decided what its tone is and what the purpose of the panel is and how to transition between news and comedy. They're clearly trying to do what Bill Maher has done quite successfully: take genuine political commentary and make it entertaining. But they've not even close to his level, not on their best day. The "keep it 100" questions exemplify this failure; it's a fun idea, but often the questions are so out there and slanted that nothing genuinely interesting or genuinely funny is being asked. The better shows have been when they spend the whole running time on the panel, make the panel full of smart people, and Larry breaks up the news debate with a comedic barb now and then.

The other, perhaps more fixable issue, is that the supporting cast around Wilmore is terrible. Ricky Velez comes off less as a parodic representative of slacker culture and more as a genuine slacker. Shenaz Treasury was downright embarrassing the few times she was featured; trying way too hard to be funny and not remotely succeeding. The only one who has been even remotely successful is Mike Yard, who occasionally says something good but is still kind of lethargic. None of them would ever pass muster as correspondents on The Daily Show. Even Wilmore's monologues are mixed. It's a shame in that this late night/comedy news forum so desperately needs diverse voices, but they haven't been that successful thusfar. Most of the best quotes have been from guests.

And it's great that someone's talking about racism, but their take on it is so unsubtle as to be disingenuous and slanted, and they've failed in their attempts to take on other forms of prejudice and inequality. It's easy, for example, to comedically rip holes in radical feminist bigotry, or in business sector overreach, educational dogma, religious zealotry, or to respectfully and responsibly make fun of the military. But they've utterly failed when presented with opportunities to do all above. Despite their supposedly anti-establishment perspective, they're remarkably concerned with political correctness and limited in their viewpoints. The promise was that it wasn't just a show about race, but so far, that's the only thing they've been very successful at leveraging.

It's kind of a frustrating show because the topics are so good and the promise of an off-beat take or "minority report" (as the show was originally titled) is appealing. And, of course, many of Larry Wilmore's Daily Show appearances were hilarious and even without his foil and on his own, he still can be. But so far, they've had a few good shows that were genuinely funny and interesting and a lot that were neither.

The nail in the coffin for me was the recent panel with Bill Nye: a man who is respected as an ambassador for the sciences. Wilmore's impossibly irritating, and uttterly irrelevent staff proceeded to berate him for seemingly no reason. And they in truth insulted Nye, a man that was kind enough to grace their failing show. Stewart knew how to handle issues with class, aplomb, and understood how to crack a joke at the same time. Wilmore's show is a study in painfully lazy comedy with news as a backdrop. It utterly misses the boat on the point of satire, and merely worships idiocy. I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone, especially if they're expecting smart satire. I even believe he said in the first show “they should have never gave a “brothera” a show” as if this is the first black person to host their own show…

The format is just horrible, the only panelist that ever make any sense always get cut off but the ones who dont…and it's usually a black panel.

The show has no identity, it cant decide weather it wants to be real time, or Black fox news…I can go on and on about how much of a disaster this program is…they got it wrong and I hope they do whats right and take it off the air. I will be tuning out right after the daily show, and turning back for @midnight. Colbert really left us high and dry…I have been watching since day 1, haven’t missed a show but after tomorrow I will no longer be watching…do the right thing CC -10 in my book

Lets go ahead and address the politics aspect of this show first. I'll begin by saying I myself am an independent, but most often leaning right with my opinions. John Stewart was one whom despite often disagreeing with, I found to be very funny, genuine, and sincere with his beliefs and opinions. Larry Wilmore is an absolute fraud in those regards.

I don't believe Larry Wilmore has had an orginal thought or opinion that he could call his own in his entire life. Every word out of his mouth seems to come right off the script. A script that feels like it had to have been co-authored by Al Sharpton, Peirs Morgan, and Rosie O'donnell. Its as if The Nightly Show feels its part of a competition to see who can be the most extreme leftist show on TV without getting cancelled. I imagine even the most devout of Liberals cringe at some of the stuff said on this show, thinking to themselves "Please stop, Larry. You're making us all look bad". This all would have been maybe tolerable if only they sprinkled a joke or two within all the bulls**t. How this show came to be on Comedy Central is beyond me, as it lacks anything even slightly resembling comedy.

All in all I give this show a zero. It is the first show ever that when it comes on after another CC show ends, I will lunge across the room faster than I ever knew I could move to grab the remote and quickly change the channel so not to risk giving it a single second of help with its ratings. I advise you all do the same. We need to get this one off TV soon, before it can do anymore damage to the IQ of its viewers.

    - Larry's delivery is muddled and generally off queue. That nervous laugh of his in between bits is annoying and distracting.
    - His material is 99% one-sided, which I think is a turn-off for many. Much of Stewart's credibility comes from his willingness to poke at hypocrisy/injustice, no matter where it comes from. Larry won't poke at issues that are 'generally' supported by his political/societal views (or he does it very poorly).
    - Discussions related to race inequality in this country are very important and relevant for satirical show like Larry's; however, it seems like 80% of the shows are dedicated to this topic alone and for people seeking a comedy show it gets old (from a comedy television show perspective).

Bottom line is Larry's jokes are forced and hardly funny, the show is too short for the format they're trying to execute, and Larry's delivery is simply poor. I think his cause is solid and I want to see him succeed, but I feel there is too much of an uphill battle for Larry to be successful.

    * I noticed that many of the user reviews are one time posters. I think it says something when someone's show is so disliked that it is moving people to open an account on metacrtic just to voice how much they dislike the show. That includes myself.

His rhetoric gets so ridiculous that its borderline anti-white. Even more absurd is his hatred and misunderstanding of the American South.
Recently, the show provided a perfectly concise example of everything wrong. In a skit, Larry and four of his contributors posed as a handful of heavily caricatured South Carolina state senators having a meeting about when to plan the discussion of when to talk about taking the Confederate flag down. Among these four caricatured white senators (some in whiteface oddly enough) was one black senator who had the only trace of intelligence in the entire group and was shut down by his white colleagues (out of implied racist intent). In the skit, the group decided to meet to discuss when to plan the discussion of taking the flag down in 9 months. In reality, the Republican controlled South Carolina house and senate successfully voted (with a supermajoirty) to take it down only three weeks after the disaster.
In short, this show is full of crap. I love Key and Peele, Colbert, and Jon Stewart, and I really wanted to like Larry Wilmore, but I simply cannot. At first I thought that his material would improve over time but it's only become worse and after four nights a week and so many weeks later this show needs to be put out of its misery. Like so many other people, I created this account just to write this review.

Like Stewart, Wilmore is good at using jokes to cut down overblown public figures, and he isn’t afraid to be self-deprecating. His opening monologue is typically the best part of the show.... The shakiest part of the show during its first week has been the middle panel-discussion segment, which features a mix of comedians and political commentators talking about the episode’s topic.
