    I'll give it credit that the effects are pretty good and I did like one character. One. And that's it. Poorly written characters, nonsensical twists and being overall terribly uninteresting, the mist failed to grab my attention or keep me intrigued.

    I watched the first 5 Episodes from the Mist, and i must say: this series is awful.
    The Characters are extremely generic and uninteresting.
    Don't waste your time with this, read the Book or something.
    But i´ve you like trash you can try 1 or 2 Episodes. But be careful i warned you!

    I thought this was a great attempt it creating a compelling story from the original novella. I really enjoyed the cast and like how the main story was the human interaction and not the mist itself. I don't want to spoil anything, I think people will really enjoy this show if they give it a chance. My only real beef with it is that it should have ended with one season.     Absolute garbage! This show is ruined by the completely hackneyed writing. The main characters are all unlikeable and unrelatable. Their interactions with each other melodramatic and over the top. The whole thing feels like it was a high school theatre production disguised as a modern tv show.

    This show deserved better. I didn't read the book but the atmosphere, the way the characters develop and act... everything leaves you in tension. France Conroy shines as she always does.

Possibly because of the open ending, I always wanted to know what happened next. The 2007 movie gave me the closure I so greatly needed. Now the TV series pops up and I think, yeah ok, this could really work. How wrong I was.

    What awful rubbish this is; contrived, brain dead script, I mean who could possible write such awful story lines? Nearly every single scene is filled with laziness. For example, (and I mean just one of many), in one episode, some of the main characters enter the mist in search of a working car, they come cross a dead boy with a bike nearby. They then enter a fuel service centre where suddenly a man with a working car shows up and asks if they have seen his boy. He shows them a photo of his boy on a bike. ON A BIKE!!! OMG!!!!
    And don't get me started on all the strange decisions the people do. Nearly every scene in the mall has someone (or everyone) acting against common sense. And what do the writers have against gamers anyway?

    What gripped me with the book and movie was the whole "other-worldly" theme, I find this sadly lacking. Giant spiders anyone? This could of so easily been a The Walking Dead crossed with Stranger Things, a tale of human survival set in a familiar but eerily weird world.

Watch The Mist(2007) movie, it had balls. It took a risky turn at the end, and it paid off.     For those who have not heard of The Mist before. The show is based on the 2007 movie of the same name, which was in turn based on a very popular short story by Stephen King. In the story a small town gets overrun by a mysterious mist that has all kinds of alien monsters in it. A group of characters end up in a store and try to survive both the monsters outside and the "monsters" within.
    So now we have Spike TV trying their hand at an adaption of this story.

    Let's start with the positives, the cast and their acting is solid for the most part, in particular the 3 members of the central family did at least manage to get me invested a little bit in the show. Also some of the visual effects and the cinematography are decent and that's about it really.

    There is so much wrong with this show. The writing is terrible, there are many cringeworthy lines of dialogue in just the pilot episode alone. Characters also rarely react appropriately to the situations unfolding before them. The characters in general are flatter than a Dutch pancake, walking stereotypes of Smalltown USA. I know some people have made the comparison to Under The Dome because that's also based on a Stephen King property, but it is in my opinion way worse than that show.
    The pacing and editing are consistently off, scenes end before you feel they should end. There are weird timeskips on multiple occassions in very awkward attempts to create some mystery. And while some of the visual effects were fine, there's not that many of 'm to start with.

    Which brings me to my biggest gripe with this show: Watching the pilot, it feels like they bought the rights to The Mist to use it as a framework or selling point to actually tell a completely different story about racism/sexism/homophobia/etc in the USA. Which is in itself not necessarily a bad story to tell, but when you try to sell this show as a horror show based on a story by Stephen King it's just false advertising and this show deserves to get roasted for it.

    To summarize, The Mist is NOT a show about a mist, or about the monsters in the mist, it's not a horror show, or an action show. It's a social drama that pretends to be about all the aforementioned things to get people to watch it. And it's not even a good social drama at that, I'd suggest Netflix if that's what you're looking for.    … Expand

    'The Mist' is a very lazy adaptation of both Stephen King's book and the 2007 movie. The characters are lifeless and the cast is pretty much terrible, although I have some hope of its improvement.

    Just seen the first episode of The Mist, and it is more than enough to conclude this is nothing but dreadful, dreadful garbage. A SJW fart in a bag that has nothing whatsoever to do with Stephen King's work. Stay far, far away from this crap.

    You get Spike's "The Mist": We don't have the creative talent, budget - or interest - to do justice to the novella, "The Mist", so we're going to throw the framework and environment of the story out the window, and "concentrate on relationships"(!).

    What you wind up with, is "The Mist": a mishmash of bland porridge, that is cold, tasteless and such slop - not even Goldilocks would be able to keep it in her mouth long enough to choke it down.

    In Stephen King's story, every one who ventures into The Mist risks eminent death. People are picked off, ripped to pieces and eaten by bizarre otherworldly creatures, with tentacles, beaks, giant lobster parts, giant rubbery bugs and giant spiders which lay eggs inside people and whose babies burst out of...well, I'm sure you get the picture. Some of these creatures are as tall as a 15 story building, with their own ecosystems and (somewhat) smaller creatures taking off from the giant monster's fur flying around them in a flock and diving back into the dinosaur-sized host creature, to pick out even smaller creatures in the fur and swallow them.

    Now, that doesn't sound like the Spike TV series, "The Mist" - does it? The TV series "The Mist" has one thing in common with Stephen King's novella: The name, "The Mist", absolutely nothing else.

    Spike's "The Mist" ("Based on a Story by Stephen King") is memorable summer viewing - for me, at least - for just one thing and one thing only. I keep tuning in, week after week - in some insane hope that maybe, it will miraculously have gotten better.

    Nope. Still terrible. Spike's "The Mist", invariably puts me to sleep less than halfway through each episode. I watch about 15 minutes, laugh out loud, cringe at the lack of quality and lack of anything even *mildly* scary - again - and fall asleep. It's better than warm milk!

So in every respect, this is done one the super-cheap and shoveled out with King's name hoping someone will be desparate enough during the Summer duldrums will continue watching.     Wow, even worse than Under the Dome - except this time it's instantly hated. All the characters and the soap feel cheesy writing of each person. They seem to do this to a lot of Stephen King books rewrote for TV, I just don't get why they do it?

The book was a masterpiece, the film was pretty good, but the show managed to screw everything up.     Poorly written, poorly acted, poorly directed. The characters are 1 dimensional stereotypes, the dialogue is rote, and it plays like it was written by a sophmore college girl. The females are the tough main characters, the males emasculated and weak (except for the alleged jock rapist), and even the premise, which should be driving the story feels empty. It's like a low-budget web series.

    Everything in this TV show feels forced,out of place(in a bad way!),stiff,awkward and unintentionally cringeworty.From the clichéic and stereotype dialogs coming out of the mostly unlikable , uninteresting and unimaginary characters over really bad special effects to the lack of any real monsters in the mist.In the movie we get a diverse cast of exotic alien creatures in all shapes,forms and sizes,like giant tentacle monsters with claws and sharp teeth or acid-web spraying spiders!In this tv show we get an army of cockroaches and moth attacking people and reindeer's crashing into driving cars...what a downgrade!

    I have watched the first 3 episodes so far.The first is by far the worst the other 2 are a bit better but not by much.Overall those first 3 episodes are laughably bad,concentrating only on the depressing and annoying melodrama between the characters instead of any cool monster action at all.This tv show is not really about the mist or monsters coming out of the mist.For this danish producer the mist is only a tool for creating his shockingly bad melodramatic teenager soap opera about a emo gay teen wearing black eyeliner probably raping(we don't know yet but the show hints at least in this direction) his best friend while she is drunk and then blaming it on the famous footballplayer she is in love with!Why do gay guys in those kind of shows always get potrait as borderline and overly girlish? Beside of that the only thing which attacks anyone in this tv show,beside of the producer attacking the taste of the viewers, are people attacking other people in very bad choreographed fight scenes and animals attacking people,as i said before no real monsters in this mess of a show.And it has definitely nothing to do with the movie or stephen kings novel in the slightest.

    Its like police officers say to people on a crime scene:"There is nothing to see here people, just move on!" Except with the difference that in this case its actually true.    … Expand

    I think I need to go and reread the original Stephen King book to wash out this garbage from my head.

    This was just terrible and one episode was enough for me to hate most of the characters. Wrap it up and let the mist finish off everyone quickly. A missed opportunity, maybe try and make something for grown ups next time.

    I didn't read the book, but I did watch the movie on cable when I was younger and I love this TV adaption. It's the first show in a long time, other than Game of Thrones, that I've tuned into every week and I always want to see what happens next. I like the cast, the story and the pacing and I'm looking forward to more.

    The show was clearly written by snowflakes pushing an agenda and not a good story. In doing so their unrealistic characters are unbelievable and no person who would actually watch this can relate to them.

    I like it, is entertaining, great atmosphere, the cast acts very well, the sci-fi effects don’t look bad. Watch the 3 episodes in a row. Will not “change your life” but is very good to spend time so I Disagree with the other reviews

It's annoying that there is not one clever character written, they all are jumpy, irrational, tense and angry at each other for no reason, addicts and just dumb in all they do. I really hope some more clever writers take over for next episodes to put some brain into these characters ... otherwise everyone is rooting for the mist to kill them all...… Expand

I was anxiously awaiting the ghoulish spiders, or perhaps a more in-depth exploration of the more "behemoth" variety of creature from the movie. Sadly, after enduring the weak acting (particularly of one of the leading females...) it didn't take me long to see that this TV adaptation should've been named something like "In The Vapor" , and save Mr. King's title for something more cringe-worthy. After noticing a bit of a goof in episode 2 [spoiler] : Notice where the gun FIRST falls, (which isn't as far up as when the heroine reaches for it in the next scene...), I knew I wouldn't be watching further episodes...and please explain how you can have Mrs. Carmody represented so poorly...and gone so early? This alone put me in suspicion mode, and rightly so! Poor, poor.… Expand

    Adapting Stephen King's 134 page novella into a TV show meant to run for multiple seasons already left the door open for final product that would be very different than the source material. Rather than adapting the story and then continuing it on from where King left off, Spike's horror series took a much different route. We have entirely new characters and conflicts. As a matter of a fact, the only things actually used here are that there is in fact a mist enveloping the town of Bridgeville, Maine and there are references to Project Arrowhead. Other than that this is completely different to the point where it's kind of hard to really call this an adaptation of The Mist. What's inside the mist is also significantly different than the novella. It's almost like they attached King's name to the project on the off chance somebody might mistake this as some sort of rip-off. Make no mistake, this is entirely it's own thing.

    Think of it like a slower-paced version of The Walking Dead. We watch various groups try and survive an end of the world scenario. As humanity breaks down and we learn more about the threat outside, things do get pretty interesting from time to time. It can be tough to not get involved when there are all these mysteries and hidden secrets are going around. But in order to get some answers one will have to put up with a cast of largely unlikable people, some questionable writing, and a very bleak series of events. At times the stupid and repulsive actions of the characters makes it hard to keep caring. Especially for those long stretches where nothing happens and seems like nothing is going to be revealed.

    I respect the show for not being afraid of letting the blood and gore flow. It's a surprisingly violent show. The overall mystery of what exactly the mist is can be quite compelling. There are subplots involving the characters, groups, and their individual conflicts. The show tries to be as inclusive as possible. Incorporating people from almost all walk of life. It adds a little believability to the mix, but may offend more conservative sensibilities.

    So there are some positive aspects to The Mist. The real downer is just that we spend so much time with characters that are impossible to like. As an introductory season it's a little weak, although the promise of season 2 looked strong. Still, I can see why it didn't succeed. It won't satisfy King purists out there, but has the chance to appeal to a small portion of viewers out there who like bleak worlds, can put with the crappy characters, and don't mind never getting to see a second season.

    I'm giving the show a two only because of Francis Conroy character and that I'm a big fan of hers - but she has been totally wasted. Quite honestly, she is the only reason I've sat through 4 episodes hoping against hope that her character will develop into the crazed religious character of both the book and the movie. Worst of all it's BORING -(at least Under the Dome engaged me for an entire season before it went off the rails.) Where are the monsters? Where is the mayhem? Where is the fight for survival? It is like a post apocalyptic Blue's Clues episode titled "Trapped in A Mall" YAWN!… Expand

    There must be a rule that any series that extends beyond a few episodes eventually turns into a soap opera. The prime example is, of course, the walking dead. And that is of course a good thing. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Like I don't watch the walking dead.

    The mist seems to be another attempt to start of a new walking dead series, but with big difference that the melodrama starts immediately. The characters are terrible run-of-the-mill. There is the brave teacher, the fearful but ultimately brave teenager, there is the no-good cop, there is the cowardly soldier, the dysfunctional bad mouthed addict. There is the people who start to kill others the moment the mist rolls into town. There is no build up that has people and society fall apart when confronted by a fearful thing that is beyond their means to deal with.

    There are many more tell tale signs. The moment the mist appears apparently communications and electricity fail. We know why this is. It is to isolate people from the world. Yet this is so obviously a ploy because sometimes electricity and phones it does work because the story has to have people brave the mist in the forlorn hope that they can get help.
    The most notable is with tap water. When one guy wants to wash his face in one scene with tap water, there is non. In the next scene in another building the tap water is fine and runs because the scene requires that it does.
    Another tell tale sign is when the teacher, send into a part of the supermarket that is filled with the mist, gets confronted by a stranger that attacks here and whom she eventually kills in a fight. She doesn't tell the others... for reason.
    This means that the writing is so weak that they concentrate on what is required for the scene but forget to remain consistent throughout the series.

    Now granted, the source material is not much to work with. The mist is a short tale and this has prevented the tale from becoming a snore fest. This should queue you in. If King kept it short, the makers of this series must have added things to it, and even though King is a hack writer who has a limited repertoire when it comes to characters(he fills his books with the same types), the writers are not King. And this shows.

    So the low down: a soap opera that turns into melodrama meant to cater to the walking dead audience. If you like that, go and watch it. Otherwise get bored out of your skull. Just saying.    … Expand

    Started watching this show right after I had just watched all of Stranger Things 2, it was akin to taking a bite of some delicious spaghetti with marinara sauce, then taking a bite with stale ketchup on it. This show was trying way too hard to be dramatic and relevant. It started out with some pretty dumb cliche scenarios and overly dramatic interactions between characters. It starts with a "shocking" scene to grab our attention because -- guess what? -- the next half hour-plus will be nothing but exposition. For some reason, the clods in H-wood seem to think we need to *know something* about their characters so we can *care* about them. This brainless format is so old that it pre-dates Greek tragedy. It kills drama, stopping it dead in its tracks. In this case, the characters are all dumb, contrived and/or bland., making matters worse. H-wood idiots have no sense of dramatic structure. They also seem to think that am underlying "mystery" is mandatory and flesh-eating insects are still horrifying (if they ever were). It's basically a remake of Lost (another turd), so the series can go in any direction it wants and be stretched out as long as possible.… Expand

    As a life-long Stephen King fan,, I had high hopes for this. I read the short story in Skeleton Crew when I was in high school in the 80's, listened to an outstanding audio performance with my wife in the 90's, and even enjoyed the movie a little in 2007.

    The acting wasn't so bad, but the writing and directing was abysmal. This bears almost no resemblance to the story I know. It's about social justice, promiscuity, rape culture, homophobia, the evil military, and mob rule. It features unbelievable characters, both protagonists and antagonists. Not one character makes rational decisions or acts the way a real person would act.

    The plot is ridiculous. One minute there's a vicious monster in the mist, the next bugs, the next it's smoke monsters, and yet other times there's nothing in the mist. It's just horrible. The storyline pits religion against naturalism and a town whore school teacher against every parent in town and a police chief against everyone except an ex-hippie widow who thinks God is a spider. I hope I'm the only idiot that sat through the whole season.

    If you want to see people standing around wearing T-shirts and peering in and out of windows, talking like a first year screenwriting student wrote their dialogue, then THIS IS THE SHOW FOR YOU!

    I have watched the movie which was quite good, but this series did not fulfill it's true potential. In my opinion there is too much drama and no tension at all and every now an then "monsters" are brought to the screen which makes it a horror series (which it clearly isn't). I can't put my finger on it but there is something missing in the series (apart from lack of killing, blood andI have watched the movie which was quite good, but this series did not fulfill it's true potential.     The series is lacking in quite a few aspects, it has no way of captivating you and by the end of the first episode you don't really feel the need to watch the second episode. It is also poorly acted as well as it is a completely terrible rendition of what could be something incredible.

    One thing I gotta say first. It is NOT like the movie or the book. Think of it as more of a re imagination of The Mist. The characters and the story are GOOD and despite a lot of people saying the exact opposite the acting is better than expected especially since a lot of actors are pretty new to the industry.

    So far, The Mist hasn’t given viewers much to care about. It’s all pretty standard plot thickeners. On the other hand, it’s not badly done--atmospheric, so to speak, if unseen horrors are your thing.

    I've only seen the first episode, but I'm intrigued. And there are only 10 episodes (unless there's a second season), so it might be worth the time investment.

    Bernstein (Fargo, Better Call Saul) is a good enough director that The Mist pilot gets a couple light scares, but it lacks the brutal simplicity this brand requires. After an hour, they've killed a few people nobody will possibly care about and one animal people probably will care about. But the characters are still scattered through the town and my desire to follow any of them to see how long it takes to bring them together in a contained environment as they ponder the unknowable outside is next to nil.
