It's just a goddamn shame. Everything here is terrible, from paper decorations to old and ugly elves. I hope the directors had fun with laundered money

Lord breaking. Insult to Tolkiens work. Decided the “perverse” characters like Tolkien said he hated. He had many more quotes that align with things in the show that he hated. Don’t try to make Tolkiens work without his ideals.

Absolute garbage. Probably the worst adaptation of anything I’ve ever seen. I genuinely don’t have the words for this absolute disgrace but I wish the worst upon everyone involved in the creation of this abomination.

I've watched all five of the currently aired episodes so as to be able to provide the show with a fair review. The first two episodes had me excited for the potential that they represented. Had I only watched those episodes I would have oscillated between a 6.5 to 7.0 rating. By the end of episode 3, I would have given it about a 6.0. By episode 4, I had abandoned all hope that the show would be able to provide anything more than a CW-level narrative (e.g., Smallville), and watching episode 5 has further confirmed this view. The show's rating now sits at a very firm 3.0 for me and it would take a significant deviation from current formulaic plot structure and surface level dialogue to convince me that this show will ever offer anything more than it currently does.

As with any viewing experience, your mileage may vary, and what you as a viewer look for in a show may differ from what I look for. That being said, I will try to provide the pros and cons of the show as I see them.

Pros:

1. Whoever did the 3d modelling for the animals was on point. I feel that the wolves and wargs were extremely well-done and have a great unique-but-recognizable quality to them.

2. The content to which (I presume) they are building towards always gets me excited (i.e., the battle of Dagorlad).

3. If you enjoy movies such as Disney's Star Wars films and/or the Marvel movies, I feel like there are definitely some similarities in terms of plot structure, dialogue, and visual presentation.

Cons:

1. I don't think the writers understand how to build meaningful social relationships. Etiher that, or they don't understand how to accurately convey a meanigful social relationship. Following from this, the character's decisions lack meaning and substance. As an example, characters who are vehemently opposed to something will (in the same scene in which they are decrying their outrage) completely switch their set of ideals at the behest of a poorly made and cliche-driven speech.

2. The narrative is so concerned with not rushing to the finish line, that literally nothing of substance has happened in the last 5-episodes that I've watched. To contrast this, I would have been nearly through the entire movie triology of the Lord of the Rings by this point.

3. Characters behave in unpredictable ways. For instance, Nori is unphased by a man smashing into the ground in a ring of fire, or by his apparent use of magic that warps her very reality, but, when said man accidentally gets some "magic ice" on her arm (through no fault of his own), and then attempts to apologies, she runs away in fear.

Summary: I'm meandering and my girlfriend just made me a danish, so I'm going to go and eat that. I'll probably forget that I wrote this but, watch it if you want to. I think it's god awful, but I also thought the marvel movies and the new starwars were awful, not everyone agrees. I strongly feel that this is PG13 level writing at its most mediocre, and I guess I just expected more from the Lord of the Rings. Thanks for reading.

Every character that is cannon has been bastardized by amazon, and every new character is a characature. Bad irish accents being imitated by non-irish actors, the same for scottish, non-scottish actors trying to do scottish accent. Its incredibly cringe. Then you have galadriel my favourite character from the lore/books, now my least favourite character from the show. So annoying, horrible and angry towards her friends / soldiers 'one track minded', everything galadriel isn't. Then we come to the action scenes, a troll attacks the entire group one shotting multiple men on the way over, then galadriel has a 1v1 'dance sequence' spinning her sword about in front of a green screen until the troll dies instantly to just her attacking. Some of the worst combat choreography i've ever seen. The only positive is the visuals/sets and I feel sorry for the talented few who were in charge of these decisions while amongst the children writing the scripts. Feels like a fan fiction that has had 1b$ thrown at it. Expand

Hire good actors, find some talanted directors and writers, put some effort into your work and just tell a good story. You do have money for that Jeff. Do not take chances, just put a honest effort. Pays off better than reliance on trends and luck.

The dialogue is non-sensical and showcases how little the marketers *COUGH*, I mean "writers", are in tune with basic human conversation as they spend their time surrounded by fart sniffing intellectuals, celebrities, and greed. Even in a fantasy setting, the lines are so horrendously out of place, juvenile, and contrived. There are a handful of, not just 1 or 2, "wait what? How is that even possible?" moments in every single episode. Also, this version of Galadriel has to be the most insufferable, 1 dimensional, entitled, outright nasty, and painfully corny character to have been created for TV since the beginning of the streaming era. Almost nothing she says or does is remotely believable, not bathed in a petulant tone of outright meanness or superiority, or not meant to demean, properly educate, or "one up" whoever she's interacting with. It's a rusty, vanity soaked dagger in the back of Tolkien. A shameless pandering to normies that lap up their nutritionless store brand kibble media fed to them on a daily basis. A self congratulatory fornication of egos, agendas, and $. Not to be harsh... oh hell why not, but the same people loving on this show and claiming the hate is rooted in character flaws of the reviewers are likely the same people that thought Jurrasic World Dominion was wonderful. Like that unfortunate cash grab, Rings of Power insidiously rides in on the back of cherished nostalgia and intrigue all the while abusing and mutating that which carries it into a poorly conceived, barely recognizable amalgam of unprovoked errors. The real hate, the real disrespect, lies in the hearts and minds of the hack creators and the monied interests behind them who play on society's joys, divisions, and previous works of art to make a quick buck.

An arrogant main character and an absolutely repulsive actress who plays her. Poorly written character Halbrand, you don't want to empathize with him. Some incomprehensible villagers and a dubious elf, they are not at all interesting to watch. The hobbits were also poorly disclosed, but the creators fulfilled their main task - they showed "diversity". In 2022, shooting such battle scenes is just a mockery, and given the budget of the series, it’s generally ridiculous. 20 horsemen for 30 orcs And it's served as WOOOW EPIC..
In general, there are already 6 hours of screen time, but the creators failed to interest me as a viewer, I will not watch the second season. One point for the gnome prince actor. The rest is miscast.
And I don't even want to compare this parody with the great films of Peter Jackson, simply because it's like comparing drawings from elementary school with paintings by great classical artists.
This show deserves 1/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do I begin?

Galadriel is an unlikeable Mary Sue with an ego rivaling Vladimir Putin. She's untouchable and perfect in every way, a group of elves struggle with a troll? No problem! Here come Galadriel! Wanna jump off a ship in the middle of nowhere and survive? Crazy idea right!? Not for Galadriel, who not only survives, she runs in a mysterious man who obvious isn't Sauron. Want some terrible fight choreography? All of the fight scenes, there was even a training scene where she states the obvious... "Stab, twist, gut." I mean she did forget slash... but how can you blame her? She's Galadriel, the golden child of the elves. Let's talk Hobbits, just kidding there is nothing to tell besides they find some wizard dude who is totally not Gandalf. Which is weird because he doesn't show up til the 3rd age. Then lets talk about Dwarves, being the best trash inside a junkyard isn't much praise but we get golden lines like - "give me the meat and give it me raw." I thought I was watching the wrong rings of power and started to wonder where is Brooklyn Chase fit in this scene? There is no sense of scale or time in this show. The armor all looks cheap and poorly designed. Not to mention one of the most legendry smiths in all of Middle Earth, doesn't understand metal alloy. They gave a terrible origin story to mithril that it somehow is going to save the tree, so the elves can live and all they gotta do is wear those rings of power...

They disrespected Tolkien's work and disrespected us as an audience.

Viewing it as a generic fantasy, things do not improve: the script is banal and has unbridgeable holes that will never be explained. Many things happen just to get the plot from point A to point B, but without any motivated reasons behind them to make these passages believable. Galadriel have chosen to make her selfish, quite stupid (she always gets her attitude wrong making everyone dislike her) unbearably arrogant and with the wisdom of a teenager despite the fact that when you start the series she is already more than 4,000 years old. The pseudo-philosophical dialogues made me laughing sometimes. The dialogues are mostly flat, never moved me and sometimes made me cringe at their banality. If at first I tried to turn a blind eye, as the series goes on I found increasingly awkward dialogues and ridiculous narrative choices. The entire plot seems to be written following the "perfect screenwriter's manual" in order to create as much drama (often exaggerated and poorly justified), romance and "guess who" situations as possible: it seems to be written by an AI. Only a few minutes were devoted to the creation of the rings then, and everything was resolved in no time at all, with a cringe-worthy sufficiency. Celebrimbor looks like a senior accountant, Elrond (who is one of the best characters in the series) looks like a young career insurance man. The authors took a story that is indisputably one of the greatest works of all time and trying to adapt it to modern times. You can't do that. If you need a setting that fits your series, please come up with your own ideas. In summary, the problem is not so much that the authors have strayed from Tolkien's writings in adapting the story for film, which is inevitable when transporting a literary work to film, but that the spirit of the original work has been slaughtered: this stuff is not Tolkien, but not even close. I see from reading the reviews that there are also those who have enjoyed this series, and let me be clear that I have nothing against them: in the same way, I who like to drink wine but also am not a true connoisseur, sometimes happen to drink a poor or mediocre wine without even realizing it: simply at that moment I feel like drinking a wine and whatever they serve me served in a nice goblet I will happily quaff it. This fantasy is like a mediocre wine that could (perhaps) be appreciated if it were not presented as a top-of-the-line wine. I've had a lot of good parties with €1.75 wine. But if you serve me a wine by presenting it as a top-of-the-line wine (an Amarone della Valpolicella or an Marqués de Murrieta for example), and when I taste it I understand that it is a €1.75 supermarket wine, I spit that wine out. Hence the zero given to my review. Expand

This show has so much to do with Tolkien, as a carjacker has to do with the vehicle's owner.
So, I will review it as a Fantasy movie in itself.
The images are great. That was good spent money. Usually, when I see low-quality Fantasy movies (like this one), images are a fragile part.
The dialogues are appalling. That looks like a middle-school teenager writing fan fiction. Therefore, I qualify them as juveniles.
The characters lack empathy. The actors didn't help. It was two hours of me watching and trying to connect with any of them; seriously, it was impossible. It was a long two hours.
The main character looks like "Karen meets Mary Sue". Obnoxious, she is the opposite of a Commander. Being a Commander is something you earn. This swimming Karen is a quitter and an idiot. Not Commander material.
And definitely, such a person would not have survived a month in a Medieval world.
I am one of the few that ended up seeing all the episodes of Season One. I don't intend to see Season Two: I have completed my penance watching Season One.

Zero interest for the next season. 2 is a fair rating for this show. Most of the positive reviews are obviously fake and paid for. I hope no one else hate watches Season 2. There are a million better things to do with your time than watch this or other Hollywood garbage.
Some laughable highlights:
-Galadriel swims across and ocean
-Almost everyone survives a volcanic eruption
-Galadriel teaching Numenoreans how to fight
-Galadriel throws a group of soldiers into a jail cell -The Woke diversity in what is a story set in ancient Europe (I'm not white btw)

Dear Amazon, I don't want The Lord of the Rings for a "modern audience". I want The Lord of the Rings created to honour the true spirit of the man who wrote this material. Show some respect!

This show deserves nothing more to be disposed to the ash-heap of history with most other garbage produced by Hollywood in the past 5-10 years.

Not every movie/tv adaptation can authentically contain the politics of the modern day as it absolutely does not fit that world. I would be turning in my grave if I created a fictional world only for blue-headed, college educated unprofessionals to be "adapting" my work to push their own politics.

Amazon, you should be ashamed. How dare you.

If Sauron adapted the Tolkien, this would be it. This is a rape of Tolkien's works. Let us see what went wrong:

--- Storytelling (0/10): A dead lizard would have written a better story. Comparing this fecal matter to Tolkien's master storytelling is like comparing feces to pizza. Pornos have better stories. Writers must have read a nursery rhyme once (and a lot of leftist lunacy, obviously).
--- Identity politics and idiotic American propaganda (@$#$/10): Listen, Americans, do whatever you want over there, but keep the rest of the world out of it. This is not Tolkien, so either do right with him or stop this show. Stop your countrymen from this blasphemy.
--- Action scenes (1/10): Monty Python had better fight sequences. --- Casting (1.5/10): 95% casting is blech (literally vomits). You had to choose good and fitting actors from a world population of 8 billion and you chose these? Same feelings for Galadriel as I had for Joffrey Baratheon (she was supposed to be awesome!).
--- Dialogue (0/10): Again, pornos have better dialogue. Infantile at best.
--- Lore and Tolkienism (0/10): Has nothing to do with Tolkien and his works. Worst adaptation of all time, can compete with Velma on that. Completely destroys what Tolkien stands for, his ideals, morals and themes. Uses allegory, allegory! If you don't know that you are not supposed to do that, you are a public enemy of Tolkien.
--- Other things (1/10): Man, f you.

In conclusion, I would totally recommend this show...to the CIA so it can be shown to terrorists as an extreme form of torture, though all Geneva rights will be obliterated.

P.S. Shills, congratulations on selling your soul to Sauron (literally Amazon). May you never find peace or contentment. If only Prime had spent as much money hiring people who knew what Tolkien meant as they did on shills and fake reviews.

Again, I hope all the orcs behind this villainy find eternal damnation.

Although it follows a familiar style, it misses the opportunity to create something new and unique. Content-wise, the series takes many liberties, often disregarding the source material, and its attempt at diversity feels forced, reflecting the current societal obsession with political correctness. First off they fired the tolkein scholar hired to keep things to lore, because he was doing his job! The lead actress felt too stiff and wooden in her acting, and she played Galadriel like she was a mary sue. Doing everything and making everyone else look bad. The script was poorly written, as well as the production values as well as directorial work just pure shoddy. Now I would give this a 0, however it had maybe 2 points it did well in....

The visuals and music were the best parts of it, the backgrounds and set pieces felt like tolkein despite everything else feeling like they took his work to a chop shop and only kept what they wanted. Granted they were working with incomplete notes, and they had to fill gaps. However had the IP been in the hands of the family still they would not have allowed this, it is only because the group that holds the rights just wants to use it as 'content' to print money and will do anything for money. So overall this show feels like a betrayal to the fans of these works, and the fact you cannot leave reviews on amazon and IMDB limits how low you can review it says they are in damage control. This is just an honest review of the show, and how the company is handling it to demonstrate the reality. I would not recommend this show on prime, if you want something to watch go watch the wheel of time, The Boys, The man in the high castle, or anything else on prime and you will have a much better viewing experience. This is one of the biggest flops in history, and it will cost them way too much to recoup all the losses from it. I wish they had of done the legacy of these works justice, i wish it had of been good, but at the end of the day we have to call a lemon for what it is.

Then kings and queens and the hores of their time join in a jolly merrymaking once the battle is over. Behold - the world (symbolized most likely by that tavern) is saved.

Also.

The thousands of years of elven master smith is taught about smithing and alloys by outsiders. The long lived elven Galandriel has't accumulated enough wisdom appearantly during her hundreds of years to handle diplomacy like a pro. Wonder what she's been doing instead. This show is terrible.

The show lacks creativity, depth and proper execution. The plot is filled with cliches and predictable twists, making it difficult to stay invested in the story. The characters are underdeveloped, with flat personalities and uninteresting motivations. The world-building is also unsatisfying, with poorly imagined settings and magic systems that lack logic.

Additionally, the special effects are subpar, detracting from the overall experience. The dialogue is often cheesy and stilted, making it difficult to take the characters or their struggles seriously. The pacing is slow, with extended scenes of filler content that do nothing to advance the plot. The show also fails to do justice to the source material, making it a poor adaptation.

In conclusion, "Rings of Power" is a subpar fantasy show that fails to live up to its potential. It fails to engage the audience, and leaves them feeling unsatisfied. I would not recommend this show to anyone looking for a well-crafted fantasy series.
It truly is a disgusting abomination that should be purged from existence. Tolkien would sue the writers of this show for this unfathomable disgrace.

Story is terrible and what they did to Galadriel really shines true of the definition of woke. So Galadriel is an intelligent diplomat in the books whom has magic, she is supposedly one of the wisest elf’s …etc… in ROP Galadriel takes on a ice troll, defeats ice troll in about 5 seconds. In lord of the rings, the fellowship fight a cave troll and it takes all of them to defeat it and the battle lasts a much longer.

They’ve made Galadriel into some sort of skilled warrior who never makes mistakes or has character flaws, it’s like the writers don’t know how to write female characters… so they turn them into a walking plot armoured entity who can never fail. Galadriel is arguably the main character in the show and they’ve changed the character fundamentally The script is awful and there is nothing which represents the original content here. I have no idea why Amazon bought the rights if they never intended to use original content or previous established characters. Also I wouldn’t believe that NDA bs, It completely makes sense on why Tom Shippery was fired if he voiced his opinion during production and got shut down. Amazon certainly can reap what they sow

I got through the first three episodes on that feeling alone, though I knew I wasn’t as impressed as I had hoped. And after the fourth episode I realized that it was not going to get any better. I couldn’t anticipate how bad it would end up being.

The writing and pacing is truly awful. I cannot stress enough how bad the dialogue was in every single episode. There were so many contrivances in the plot which were barely explained, if at all, and the characters and their races at large felt barely thought out. It’s as if the writers were told to not even try to write with Tolkien in mind, or the existing film universe Jackson gave us. At best this is a weird fever dream, fantasy fiction of Bezos’s making and someone should have woken him up an hour ago. The casting choices were weird, mostly where the elves are involved. Galadriel was performed with no dimension, which is such a shame because Cate Blanchette gave so much meat to her. Celeborn was stiff, cold, and the storyline honestly made me think he was evil. Celebrimbor was the first elderly looking elf, which just simply blows up everything Tolkien’s elves were meant to look like. Months later I am still so deeply disappointed. I know the show wasn’t made just for current Tolkien fans, but this certainly wasn’t the best foot forward in trying to keep those fans and then gain new ones. But I’m not shocked this was the outcome when Amazon hired show runners who have only worked on Star Trek films. I’m not sure if there’s hope for the rest of the series. The next seasons would have to have new writing team, show runners, and maybe some recasting to get my love.

The series feels strongly of the hatchet, rush job that I've seen from Disney with treasured stories. After the first two episodes I began to fast forward through the Galadriedl and Aarondir stories. The only storyline I've found remotely interesting, and still the shallowness of characters is very visible is the Brandyfoot and The Stranger. I've written the series off but will probably watch season two with my button on the fast forward button. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off, let me say that, objectively, the series probably deserves somewhere between a 4-6 out of 10, but I am marking it lower because, subjectively and as a passionate, longtime Tolkien fan, I dislike it very intensely.

I'll start off with what works, as it is a short list. The visuals are mostly spectacular, as most others have noted. There are a few shots where the CGI is spotty, but overall it's hard to complain about how the show *looks,* unless it is to point out that it all feels a bit too "clean," lacking the grittiness of, say, Peter Jackson's original trilogy (but this can be said for almost all modern cinema/television).

The music is mostly excellent, with the one exception for me being the Harfoot music. I understand what Bear McCreary was aiming to achieve there, but it strays the farthest from what we might call the "Middle Earth" sonic palette, and I simply don't care for it.

The acting is generally serviceable to good. In fact, I think given better material, most of these actors could have done a terrific job.

That's about it. Now on to what DOESN'T work. I'll try to keep it as short and sweet as possible, which will likely be easier as I intend to avoid spoilers.

This is an adaptation, yes? One might expect an adaptation to at least attempt to, I don't know, ADAPT its source material with some degree of fidelity and faithfulness. This show makes no such attempt. There is not one narrative event that takes place in season 1 that is actually lifted from Tolkien's writings. (The event that closes out the final episode is technically a thing that does happen, but even it happens in such a way as to be totally out of order and thus defeat the purpose of the thing happening at all).

Here we have a show where, rather than tell the story that does exist in the Second Age laid out by Tolkien, the showrunners instead decided to take the names of some characters and places from the lore, add a few new ones, and invent an entirely different story altogether. Far from just "filling in the gaps," the show actively alters established lore and directly contradicts it at every turn.

Defenders of the show love to point out that Peter Jackson made changes in his LotR trilogy adaptation, as if there's some legitimate equivalency to be drawn. Yes, he made changes, but his changes were generally made in service to the translation of the story as it exists in literary form to a form that would actually work on screen. Many of his changes were simple omissions of events or characters that don't meaningfully affect the plot. Others were done in order to enhance the story for a visual medium - but the story remained intact! At the end of the day, his LotR films were laudably faithful, and struck the appropriate balance between book fidelity and quality filmmaking. A film trilogy doesn't become the most awarded film franchise of all time for no reason, fwiw.

Defenders of the show will also point out whenever a reference is made to something that is actually in the lore - as if these little "easter eggs," essentially, are enough to justify every other change, and somehow boost the show's lore accuracy in any real way. "Oh, this character here is going places they never went, doing things they never did, participating in plot structures that make no sense, never happened, and run roughshod over the carefully constructed source material? Who cares, because look, they made a quick reference to Earendil! See, the show IS lore accurate!"

As an adaption of Tolkien, the show simply fails utterly.

The other big problem here is the writing. From the moment-to-moment dialogue, to the overall plot/narrative structure and pacing, I think this is one of the worst written shows I have ever seen, and I'm not being hyperbolic. It isn't simply, as some have said, "painfully average," where the writing isn't great but is competent enough that you can keep your brain engaged and actually enjoy what you're watching. On the contrary, it is so lazy, contrived, nonsensical and unbelievable, that the only way I can imagine anyone might enjoy it is to turn their brain off completely and gawk at the pretty imagery.

Characters don't behave in logical, believable ways. Their motivations don't make sense. Big, important characters routinely - and by sheer, unbelievable coincidence - end up at just the right place, at just the right time, so the plot can move forward. Sequences of events don't seem to connect in a logical or meaningful way. So many scenes, especially in retrospect, feel like one-off D&D moments that have no consequence or bearing on what follows. Fast travel is abused absurdly. It often feels like the writers just had a checklist of "moments" they wanted to have, and devised a bunch of lazy plot contrivances to get us to each "moment." A travesty, all in all.

I'm running up against a character limit here, so I'll leave it at that. The show is an embarrassing disgrace, simply put.

In 2022, even in cheap series, CGI is sometimes better, not to mention the battle scenes.
Maybe Amazon should call and recruit the creators of the Rammstein ADIEU video, who show such quality and content in a 9-minute video that your entire serial looks like a super-cheap production in the background of their video

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to love this. Peter Jackson's trilogy is my favorite piece of entertainment ever. I've read all of Tolkien's work, and like to think I have a decent knowledge of Arda, Middle Earth, etc.

I went into this completely blind not listening to any of the hype or criticism surrounding it so I could go in and judge it based on its own merits.

Sadly, it disappoints far more than it succeeds. The writing is absolutely atrocious. None of the plot threads fit together at all, and the timeline is all over the place. One scene concerning the Harfoots encompasses over a week, then you jump right back to Galadriel's story, which has only moved a couple hours. I think they would have benefitted from telling a simplier narrative than trying to shove so many plot points down our throats so quickly. It's also clear that this is a work of fanfiction by the writing team. Characters in this act nothing like the characters in the books. Things that happen in this show directly contradict Tolkien's books, like Gandalf arriving by meteor instead of arriving on a boat with the other Istari, or Galadriel getting on a boat in episode 1 to go West when in the novels she committed herself to Middle Earth at the end of the 1st age, over a thousand years prior, and changed her relationship with her own husband, who is absent from this show outside one reference in episode 7. It also tries to misdirect you as to who Sauron really is, but anyone with a passing knowledge of the source material know who Sauron is immediately, and the twist did not work at all. Character motivations make no sense whatsoever a lot of the time and change for no reason just so the plot can happen. Oh, and the Southlanders plan of leaving their hilltop fortress with only one entry point to fight in their village instead with no walls or bridges needed to access instead...WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

The acting is very hit or miss. Charlie Vickers, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Sophia Nomvette, Lloyd Owen, and Joseph Mawle are all excellent in their roles. Unfortunately, the shows really hinges on the performance of Morfydd Clark, and DEAR GOD, she's more wooden than a Numenorian ship. She is just awful as Galadriel. For the first half of the show (where virtually nothing interesting happens), she does nothing but treat every single person around her like crap, demanding things from strangers and throwing a tantrum when she doesn't get her way. This is not how Tolkien envisioned Galadriel at all.

The production value is also hit or miss. Some of the cities like Numenor and Kazadum look fantastic one moment, then very cheap the next. The orcs by and large look fantastic most of the time, but the Numenor and Elvish Armor looks incredibly cheap. There are also some terrible CGI sequences (the warg scene with "Gandalf", the creation of Mt. Doom) that feel very rushed and cheap. And at $60 million an episode, NOTHING about this show should come off as cheap or rushed. There's just no excuse.

And lastly, it is very clear that they want to make Sauron and the orcs layered, and that IS NOT what Tolkien wanted. There is literally an "Orcs lives matter" speech from Adar in Episode 6. Sauron and Morgoth are representations of pure evil. Making them complicated just cheapens the courage and sacrifices of the elves and men who fought to defeat them. Tolkien didn't live in a world filled with grey. Evil was evil to him.

In short, this show is a disaster. It's boring, poorly written with very inconsistent production values, some good performances overall weighed down by too many poor ones, and just plain disrespectful to the source material. And that has nothing to do with the race of the characters (see my favorite performances above), it's that they don't honor the characters and stories Tolkien wrote. They wanted to tell their own story with Tolkien's characters, and that to me is just unacceptable.

3.5/10. Do not recommend

Not ready to agree. This beautiful picture means only one thing. Artists and other professionals, graphics and other things that were bought for a billion, were in the clutches of insane propagandists of the current agenda, ignoring either Tolkien's legacy or viewers and fans. The worst thing in this genre so far. Perhaps if they didn’t spend a billion, it wouldn’t be so sad. 0/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This isn't Tolkien. Period! Nothing about this show feels Tolkien. The writing, stories, characters, dialogue are not Tolkienian. I've really tried very hard to like this show. I did, but after 5 episodes, I'm out. Its unbearable, specially after the insanity about the origins of Mithril and elves need for it. At this point, I think amazon is trolling us. Nothing about this show makes sense. Gil-Galad is portrayed as scheming and evil. Elendil is some low level commander. Harfoots are psychopaths who leave their own to die. Elrond has no conception of oaths and how serious and consequential they are in Tolkein's world. Durin and Disa are the only barely likable characters in the whole show. The lead character, Galadriel is petulant child. How does an 5000 yr old elven nobility have no courtly manners.. she is disappointing and poorly written, even after 5 episodes. She has only one mode and always dialed up to a 11. So many plot holes and characters that don't make any sense. Just lazy writing and poor pacing. 5 episodes in and still nothing has happened. Its like bland generic fantasy show that has Tolkien label slapped on it.. This isn't even Tolkien inspired or an adaptation. Huge disappointment. Expand

No Spoil.
