Best subtitle in the series. You see, not only was it "about time" for these movies to finally come to an end, but the plot is centered around time travel. So it's literally ABOUT. TIME. That's some next level brilliance right there.

Best subtitle in the series. You see, not only was it "about time" for these movies to finally come to an end, but the plot is centered around time travel. So it's literally ABOUT. TIME. That's some next level brilliance right there.

Looking back, the Sharknado franchise was only able to take off and reach this point because the first film, while objectively terrible and inept, was so genuine in execution that it managed to attain that rare "so bad, it's good" quality seen in cult classic disasterpieces like Tommy Wiseau's The Room. The sequels however have been anything but, with each successive release trying to one-up its predecessor in absurdity and schlock value in a self-aware, totally ironic manner, much to the ire of trash cinema purists. This final entry is no different.

Arguably the most convoluted and nonsensical Sharknado yet, The Last sees the characters transported to the past to battle it out against the most bizarre natural disaster ever imagined at various different points throughout history because, well, why not I guess. Along the way we the audience are treated to cheesy jokes, intentionally bad SFX, a massive array of C/D-list celebrity cameos, and whatever the most ridiculous plot devices the writers at Asylum could come up with for a good laugh were. It's still an absolute blast to riff on with the right audience and actually a slight improvement on some of the middle chapters as even when it's trying to get all sentimental with things like Nova's quest to prevent her grandfather's death there is little to no downtime.

While many grew to despise Syfy's biggest property for becoming deliberately dumb and awful in an effort to cash in on the surprise success and pop culture phenomenon that was the 2013 original, I've personally enjoyed the stupid amusement they offer. And while I'm sad to see these movies go, at least I can take pleasure in knowing they went out on something of a high note. This is one of the better entries overall and like its predecessors is something I will enjoy revisiting in my next Sharknado binge marathon.
