I've never wanted to just reach through the screen and shake a character by the neck as much as I wanted to do with the main character. At the same time as I feel bad for him that just absolutely nothing ever works out for him, most of his failures are a result of him screwing up. So this annoying dichotomy basically leads me to nothing but frustration, and with every episode this just seems to get worse, especially now that this cringeworthy awkwardness is spreading to characters I used to enjoy.

Bleh. I don't know why I keep watching it. It's like watching a huge trainwreck--you can't look away.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first couple of episodes but as more characters join the show Phil Miller (Will Forte) becomes frustrating, awkward, and flat out annoying to watch. It's lost all of the humor that was in just the first 2 episodes. It would have been more interesting and new characters could have been added in later, maybe as a season finale. The whole concept of being the last person was the primary reason I decided to watch, so it was disappointing to see so many new characters come into play so quickly. It's not as funny as it appeared to be, since all of the humor was contained in the first two episodes. I don't think there's been anything funny since just after Carol arrived. If the rest of the season continues on this path, I won't be interested in season 2. Expand

I loved the first 3 episodes. It seemed to be a great concept: the everlasting battle between men and women compressed into the weird situation of being the last man and woman on Earth. Now its another "Total Loser Show". Not really funny anymore. Phil is just annoying. He's just like Wile E. Coyote - no matter what he's doing, he will not get Roadrunner. I guess, then I rather look Looney Tunes.

Too bad! Because the beginning of this show was really great and so funny!

Reviewers cast doubt on whether or not there was enough to the premise to sustain a show. Of course there is, thought I, but I was wrong about what they meant when they said “premise”. Of course there is, thought I, but I was wrong about what they meant when they said “premise”. This is a show about what it is like being the last man on Earth, for about 15 minutes. After that it is a show about how fickle human nature can be, and then it is a show about how far we can go through selfish rationalization before we wake up in a nightmare of guilt. According to The Last Man on Earth, we can go really far. Way too far. Passed the line of watchability. I like Peep Show, I think that gives me some credibility in talking about tolerance for horrible behavior and despicable motivations. You can, like both shows, revel in human weakness and draw comedy from it, but if there’s no nuance to the examination then painful-but-funny-cuz-it’s-true just becomes painful. I think Will Forte’s probably funny, I just don’t know where. Kristen Schaal is very adept at playing ridiculous and implausible characters, but this script does not give her much to work with that’s actually funny. January Jones is, as always, as exciting to watch as someone mowing a soccer field. Are there other characters in the show? Human plot devices yes, characters no. Expand

As fun as Will Forte starts out in episodes 1-3 he plummets pretty quickly into going full retard, and JJ just... sits with it like it is normal behavior. The show stops exploring the "we're the last people on Earth" and starts with petty squabbling over who gets to **** who. Instead of exploring the world they are in, and the "last man on Earth" the show just starts introducing new and uninteresting characters (okay Todd is amazing!), but everyone else are just vanilla characters to fight over continuously who gets to screw January Jones' brains out!.

Never seen anything start so good and transition so poorly into nothing.

The Last Man on Earth excels in it's creative areas of plot, comedy, and characters. Although the show has been running for a fairly short amount time, it still stands out to be one of the most golden and entertaining shows on FOX, and has so many great things going for it, arguably balancing out the cons.

This is one show I can't wait to watch on Sundays. Every character is so unique allowing the show's characters to be very relatable. I laugh every episode by the unpredictability of the characters. Although it's not as family friendly as I would have liked, I am still very pleased with the show.

The first 2 episodes were great, and then it all went downhill.
I'm stuck with this awkward feeling, with the main characters been so obnoxious and annoying.

An episode later, another woman is introduced; Also, if you look at one upcoming episode's title and description, it seems to suggest that Phil isn't truly the last man on Earth as the title says. It appears that the writers are running out of ideas very quickly, and I fear the show is degenerating into just another generic sitcom with an apocalyptic theme. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show was a risky project for Fox. The show’s first three episodes showed that this show had potential that only two characters Phil and Carol, which is played by Will Forte and Kristen Schaal respectively, can carry a TV show by their own. And then, as soon as the third character played by January Jones named Melissa was added, the potential fades away quick.

I am not saying that because of the ever-growing list of characters that was added throughout the debut season. I am saying that because when Melissa was introduced, Phil had an abrupt and cringe-worthy character development that made him horny and pretentious. This lasted for a couple of episodes which was annoying considering that we waited every week hoping that Phil would stop being an **** just because he wants to be on Melissa’s pants.

As more characters were added ranging from Todd played by Mel Rodriguez to Phil Miller 2 played by some model looking dude, this sitcom changed from a post-apocalyptic sitcom to a romantic comedy sitcom set in a post apocalyptic time. While I actually don’t mind the adding number of characters, the worst part of this show was its frequent themes of romance that felt really out of place for a TV show like this. I expected something more out of this show as a unique sitcom and this show going through the sitcom tropes by adding romance made this a bit cliched.

    There are good points however.

Despite his off-putting personality, you can feel that the main character Phil felt like he is alone despite having many people around him and that’s why I don’t completely hate Phil nor completely like Phil either. However, Carol in this show is my highlight as her adorableness and quirkiness surprisingly made her the most sane character in the show.

I like how this show does not have any zombies at all. Not even one mention of them existing in the show is good for a post-apocalyptic show as the zombies are now becoming a trope. Their existence would also feel quite out of place for a sitcom like this as most people feel like zombies never existed at all.

There are a couple of misses but the humor in this show are funny enough to repeat the same funny scene again. The best joke in the show was Phil lying that he had seen The Shawshank Redemption and saying Tom Hanks was great in it.

Overall, The Last Man on Earth had its hits and misses but still comes out as a decent TV show. I hope the next season would be much better.

No weeds or dust on the freeway. There seems to be abundant amounts of fuel though in reality it does go bad over time. And how do they put fuel into the cars without the use of electricity? Furthermore, if fuel was so plentiful why wouldn't they find some gas powered generators to be able to use electricity?

Of course the million dollar question is, if you could live anywhere you wanted in the United States, why Tucson Arizona? Why not a beach estate in Malibu? It does get freaking hot in Tucson and without air conditioning it would be unbearable.

So the show does have some big holes in it's plot, which for simplicity is needed But when there is literally nothing else going on in the world the characters have to be fascinating or somehow compelling. My question to you is, would you have them over to your house for dinner? Would you head down to Central Perk to hang out with the characters of "Friends?" Would you at least sit in the same restaurant as the characters on Seinfeld? Chances are yes. Now, if you ran into the now four characters on the show sitting at the next booth to you at a Denny's would you engage them in conversation?

I am waiting for these characters to grow on me but my patience is running out. I know that Will Forte has more in him than what he has put forward. In a big unlimited world it seems that the cast is bound to be shut ins

The big question is, where do you go from here? How do you make a show with somewhat annoying characters more compelling when they are shut ins in a big world? The show has painted itself into a corner though it has endless abilities to change and adapt.

The thing I fear about this show is that by next season (if there is one) the studio will send in it's people with "ideas." You have a show with four white people who are the last people on earth. What about ethnic diversity? Why not have a black and Mexican survivor join the cast? Why not have one of the ladies be a rape survivor? Why not introduce a gay couple onto the show? Best of all, why not have a black-Mexican gay couple join the cast? To make it all that much more interesting why not make them both women who are capable of reproducing? Oops, can you do that? How about an older person or two? Not interesting? How about a 12 year old girl? Technically she would be getting to the age she could reproduce but the implications wouldn't look right on TV.

It all begs the question, in this politically correct world, where do you go from here? What you have is four white people between ages 30 and 50 living in Tucson. Two men, two women, all hetrosexual. How did this get by the PC police?

Then to accentuate it even further most of the characters other than Phil and Carol aren't even remotely interesting. Why is Phil the only one who seems to be effected by everyone being dead and not having human interaction for 2 years. I thought it was very funny. I also thought it funny that one person, who gave it a bad review, stated that if they were the last man on earth and could get a tv signal, they would have turned it off within the first ten minutes. But, NOT being the last man on earth, and having access to hundreds of programs at any moment, they sat through the whole episode.

I was expecting an interesting and creative satire about modern culture, but instead what I found was a slob of a man wrecking property. A few poor physical gags repeated endlessly and an embarrassingly unpleasant view of women when that character is introduced. Given that Will Forte's character spends most of his time as a aimless caveman that last addition may explain the dinosaur view of females. This show has gathered a perplexing amount of positive reviews for such a lame and mediocre effort. For me there was not a single laugh or spark of interest for the characters or story. A miserable failure. I gave it a rating of 1 because there was probably a competent film crew on site that deserves more than this show can deliver. Don't worry guys, there got to be something better in your future. Hang in there. Expand

Did he bother to find a shortwave radio hooked up to his generator and try to get other nations? No planes crashed and all landed safely so civilization could all die on the ground and vanish? Did everyone who died remember to park their vehicles away out of sight and then go die at home – leaving virtually NO abandoned vehicles? Does he expect the gasoline to stay fresh for over 6 months in any station's tanks? The water in the water towers still fresh and sanitary for more than 6-8 months? Can you just imagine using a pool as a toilet how bad it would smell like raw sewage after 2-3 months? The food at the stores will stay fresh for only so long. Even the canned goods. If he impregnates the woman, then only if they have a son and a daughter . . . they have incest to repopulate and have inbred morons to roam the earth? Why would they want to stay in a region where the temperatures typically soar to over 110 degrees? I saw nothing even remotely funny about this program. I didn't even crack a smile. Please spare those of us who think in terms of logic. It's like a high school freshmen wrote the storyline. Only teenagers and people with single digit I.Q.’s would ever sit through another episode of this TV trash. Expand

This show made me think of what I would do if I was the last person on earth. The show itself is good, but there seems to be missing something. The characters make it good. The setting is good and the things he does are what I picture him doing in real life.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ugh, must be hard to create a show like this. Post-apocalyptic stuff is big now so I guess it was inevitable. Key demo must be 14 year old boys. This show steers very hard toward dumb lowbrow. Sometimes I like some "dumb", but this was even too much for me. So many opportunities for good material, instead it quickly turns into Forte breaking stuff and drinking. The male/female jokes are just painful too, makes the Farrelly brother's stuff seem sophisticated. Poor Kristen, you deserve better... Expand

For a large part of the initial episode, I enjoyed Will Forte's mildly humorous behavior. But, my biggest complaint with the show is its one hour length. It should be a 30 minute show and it might have a future. The jokes become quickly lame and where the show can possibly go in the future seems an unanswerable question. It's a bit like a MacGruber skit. It just goes on too long.

Great show but I'm not sure how they will be able to carry the story for more than a few episodes. Finally something to watch on Fox again. Nobody should be stupid enough to watch Fox news and believe any of it.

OK, so this show is a good concept but with the need for water, food, etc., why would you settle in Tuscon?!? Wouldn't you want to live near a good source of water, like the Mississippi River? So the bottom line is I find this show stupid.

This show has a higher "laugh-out-loud" ratio than any current show on TV. Seeing the perfectly mismatched cast grope their way toward happiness in the bleak new world of Tucson is a joy every week. For those reviewers who are troubled by the question of where all the dead people are, I say: Duh! Of course they have all walked to the Atlanta and DC suburbs!

Will Forte is hilarious. I kept seeing the commercials on TV and kept telling myself I needed to watch it. I finally started watching it on-line when it was on the 6th episode and I got hooked. I watched them all back to back and wanted more. This seems like a completely original story. I'm tired of all the same homicide investigation shows. Good job Fox on nailing such a great show.

Ever since a second man was introduced, the show has went downhill. I almost thought they killed off the rest of the cast and they were ready to re-tool, but NOPE. I know tv is dominated by a woman audience, but guys need sitcoms that cater to them. It's not like the women wouldn't have run his new society anyway as more and more women come around and they start having Original Phil's children. Him being the ONLY MAN ON EARTH with dozens of women (aka balls and chains) around with babies who need men to reach stuff off the high shelves and open jars and take out the trash, it would introduce it's own kind of comedy, even though he gets to sleep with all these women. Maybe in a 3rd or 4th season of repopulating the Earth they could have introduced one other man. Until they stop making Original Phil the bad guy, I'm done watching AGAIN. Bearded Phil is the guy I bonded with in the first few episodes and I'll never treat him as the bad guy in my mind. Expand

Starts Strong and funny, ends repetitive, annoying and unbearable to watch. F**K this show, i wanted to enjoy it, but its too grating to enjoy, I cant stand a grown man whining constantly. Tandy needs to be more balanced, everyone else in the show are just 2D props to showcase an awful character

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first 2 episodes and laughed out loud a lot. There were some great moments like Phil casually shooting glass doors with a gun to get in, playing bowling with aquariums, burning **** for fun, and talking to balls after watching Castaway. I instantly loved Phil's character and thought "man this show is gonna be great, it's the apocalypse and this guy's gonna explore the big empty world, do crazy and ridiculous **** cope with loneliness, figure out silly ways to live and survive... I can't wait."

Only 3 episodes in and the show turns into pure cringe, because NO, it's gonna be a show about sex. Ever since he shaves his beard I can't stand his wimpy face, his fake ass-kissing voice when he's talking to Melissa and his pathetic submissiveness to Carol. What a way to ruin a character.

In episode 6 he finally got honest with Melissa and I thought "thank god, they're moving past that and are gonna get realistic", but NO, the next episode he goes back to trying to find new ways to get Melissa. Is this what every episode is gonna be? It seems like a great waste of potential for a comedy show that takes place in the freakin' end of the world! There's so many other directions they could go, come on!

Phil's character pre-shave and the setting was what drew me into the show in the first place, but then he turned into an unbearable asshat. His every action makes me cringe and the other characters are just boring plot devices.

I only kept watching to the end because fans of the show assured me it gets way better in Season 2. I hope it was worth it.

    The first episode gets a 7/10, the second a 5 / 10 everything else after a 3-1/10.

There is just nothing happening, and not the good kind like in Seinfeld. The main character just keeps on losing and losing and you want something good to happen, but nope. Then also the humor and plot is just becoming generic as hell and boring at the same time.

    Not recommended at all...

This show is completely hilarious, innovative and outrageous during the first few episodes of the season, and then it devolves into this awkward soap opera where you hate the main character. The jokes are still decent, but it's hard to watch.
Season 2 feels, oddly enough, exactly the same. It's like they blew their budget making one or two great episodes and still needed to write 8 more

I find it so hard to mark it down, because that first episode is the funniest approach to the post-apocalyptic genre I've ever seen.

Yes, I did watch all three seasons through tears and billions of dead nerve endings... The only funny thing about these series is that the only two smart people are Black (Phill) and Asian (Lewis)...Oh and Tandy.. I think, those who find him funny are simply as stupid as he is. Or probably even worse.
