Sean Bean shows his acting prowess as the broken proto detective in early 19th century London. His vulnerability is well portrayed. Believability does suffer from woke color-blind casting but not fatally so. As well as the settings, costume and peeling paint austere backgrounds we get quite excellent use of musical atmosphere. Season 2 though still excellent on the production side, slides off track into excess moroseness and a meandering listless story. Pity 8 for S1 3 for S3… Expand

First season has a dark and gritty foreboding ambience which is only enhanced by Sean Bean’s performance, which is the driving force of this series and helps make this in eerie, intriguing, cozy thriller/drama.
