Jon Stewart's Daily Show was insightful news commentary and analysis told against a background of comedy. There was a lot of research and thought that went into the show. The comedy was mostly the absurdity of was was being talked about.
Unfortunately, the Daily Show nowadays is little more than a comedy act that reads news headlines and goes off on short (15- to 30-second) comedy riffs based upon the headline.
The depth that Mr Stewart brought to the show has been lost.
The Daily Show has turned into any one of the many other comedy shows on Comedy Central, shows that are attuned to superficial stand-up comedy.
The comedy (if I can call it that) of the Daily Show is no longer the absurdity of the news, but failed attempts of the host trying to be funny.
I watch the Daily Show via my DVR, usually the following afternoon. I find myself fast-forwarding through major sections of the show because I'm not really a fan of second-rate stand-up comedy.
Unless there's a significant change for the better, I doubt I'll be watching the Daily Show come next year.… Expand
