This show is made by psychopaths for psychopaths. I won't say that everyone who likes this show is a psychopath but there are certainly quite a few among them. This show is utterly contemptible in almost every regard.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It starts off quite strong. The basic premise being a dark underbelly of the fake media of super heroes. It has some good acting, interesting script and random comic book style fight scenes. It's entertaining and has massive amounts of potential. However like most current times series and films, it is socially scripted regardless of how socially unscripted its premise is... we are so unscripted that superheroes and their world is dark and ruck and all the norms are sheep for the killing or using. However we are totally scripted in that everything is so sickly dark, Christianity is bubblegum pop sickness, everyone sexually weird or corrupt or broken by guilt EXCEPT the people who are gay or lesbian in which case they are oppressed and they need to be liberated by evil conservative Christian history which needs to be ridiculed and turned into idol worshipping mad people. This show, once again, makes it clear that regardless of the point of the show, if you don't love everything about gays and woke narrative, you're a disgusting, ducked up evil turd that needs to never have an opinion or be allowed to breathe. It is desperate to force peoples thinking down that narrative that it makes it oppressive from season one. I long for the day when shows stop being oppressive with narrative and forcing subliminal putrage on something simple like waking past a post that says marriage is 1 man and 1 woman for life. It's actually a very normal and reasonable opinion about marriage. It's not shocking or weird. So, why make it seem evil and out of left field. For that matter, why even bring it up in this show at all? Why once again do we have to do fake Christian worship scenes which do nothing but take the piss out of a global religion? It's the same stuff in every show. It's oppressive, is bullish and it's incorrect. You're using fiction to rewrite people's brains and it's corrupt. Expand

I tried to like this show but it's absolutely awful. It tries way to hard too be edgy and funny (which the comic did successfully) and it just doesn't come off. I'm not even sure who the target audience would be for this show, definitely not me.

The first feature film about mutants was "X-Men" directed in 2000 by Bryan Singer: each character had a complex and deep personality and, from the scene of Wolverine in the Statue of Liberty onwards, the memory of the movie still excites me. What happened in these 2 decades? Superheroes have been desecrated, vulgarized, bastardized, drowned in the bad taste of the extremization of their own problems, lìmits or defects. "Deadpool", "The Suicide Squad" and now this TV series. The trend has been decided and there is no going back: too bad, since the comic book is excellent both in the narrative plot and in the graphic rendering and the audiovisual transposition preserves these qualities, but also the derisive and scurrilous contamination with a "Breaking Bad" 2.0.
Ps: or the Nirvana T-shirt or that of AC/DC, the incompatibility is absolute.

Promising storylines fizzled out, and basic storytelling took a back seat to shock value. Felt like a cynical emo teenager obsessed with blood and gore and being edgy wrote this tv show and tried his hardest to make the audience feel as uncomfortable as possible. Most of the characters arent believable as human beings. Half the cast are psychotic villains. Absolute trash tv show that's pilot never should have seen the light of day. Not sure what I expected from an Amazon Original'. They should stick to 2 day delivery and leave motion pictures to people with actual talent. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show is barely based off the comic at all, it's all just doom and gloom depressing everything is bad waaaah. Lazy, and the heros being bad was a missed opportunity for a plot twist, they just revealed it all in the first episode. Also like half the characters are gender/race swapped which just pisses on the comics even more for stupid diversity. And they really couldn't make at least 5 of the characters likable? Only likable ones are the French guy, Milk guy, Homelander for his great acting, and sort of the Deep since he just turns into a joke character. But the fact he's a joke character is also a missed opportunity. And I should have took the red flag as soon as a saw it but the defilement of Christianity is also disgusting in episode 5 Expand

Although one might argue that the things were tuned up a bit too far here, making it equally unrealistic. While the premise is interesting, the stories that are surrounding it are not so much. I've been wondering numerous times throughout the season "just where is this going?" And more often than not, I didn't get my answer by the season's end. I've also been wondering why characters took some eyebrow-raising decisions, similarly I didn't get my answer by the end. The biggest strength of this TV series are actors - they got their roles extremely well, particularly Antony Starr. Nevertheless, it is not enough for me to continue watching a potentially dragged out plot in the second season just to be left with a feeling of emptiness again Expand

The show starts strong. Season 1 is a good blend of grayscale morals and dystopic relationships.

Then with season 2, the show tries to become mainstream. It tries to play on gray morals and toxic relationships so much that it breaks down. It breaks down into a intelligence insulting, nonsensical character trait changes while amping down the action to basically them just punching each other...

All in all season 1: 8/10
Rest: 4/10

And all of that whole 4 comes from the fact that Homelander never actually breaks character and behaves what he was originally portrayed as. He only develops while Mr. Butcher and co along with rest of 7 (except Starlight) simply f.ing evolves and warps into completely different and inconsistent characters throughout season 2 and 3.

It's very humorous at times, although also a bit disgusting every now and then. Also, I could really do without the nude/sex/softcore porn stuff. It was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details. Alright alright, the first season was a lot better than the latter two, but man I've never enjoyed anything as much as it. Think of it this way, I got the Amazon Prime Video free trial just to watch it, it lasts a week, and I finished it in ... I'll let you guess, a week. The show is 24 hours long give or take, so about a seventh of my time during the last week was spent watching this show. And god damn I did not regret a single second of it. My only problem with it is that nothing never really seems to get resolved. I get that Homelander is a **** all great ass villain but I'd love to get another villain, maybe sometime in the future. We'll see, but the series was great you should go watch it. Don't watch it for a perfect story, it's not it, watch it for the moments, for the action, for the ... fine .. story. Haven't enjoyed anything just this much in years.
