Season 1 Review:
The Boyfriend successfully captures that electric feeling of falling in love for the first time. The show is full of that familiar kinetic nervous energy; there’s just as much excitement that comes from a brushing of the knee or a hug as there would be in more explicit acts.

The Boyfriend is a fascinating watch, but not just because it’s a social experiment in same-sex relationships from a company that doesn’t tend to do shows about them. But it’s also a good example of a dating show that can be genuine about how relationships form and are maintained.

If you’re looking for hot make-out sessions, actual sex and partner swapping, you’d be better revisiting season eight of MTV’s Are You the One? But if you’re looking for something that feels more real, less reality TV-minded and tantalisingly lovely, then The Boyfriend might just be the show for you.
