It follows Ciel Phantomhive, Sebastian Michaelis, and four other eccentric servants. The episodes usually play out with them getting in wacky adventures. This anime is more mystery orriented, the main one being who killed Ciel's parents, and why. With each episode, another mystery is solved, and another mystery starts, and a clue is shown in regards to the main mystery. It's not a bad way to go about it, but some things could probably be done better. Some of the mystery's answers seem to be a little anti-climatic or a little to drawn out. Add the fact that the more light hearted moments don't mix well with the darker tones. It's not all bad, I like the how they mix in old English culture into the anime. Characters: I have mixed feelings about the characters in Black Butler. The main character, Ciel Phantomhive, is hard to like because he comes off as just a spoiled rich kid, even though you can tell they tried to show he was more than that. Keyword tried. I found myself more attached to the side characters, such as the interesting but cliched servants and the reapers. The reapers are probably my favorite part of the series because of their uh... quirks. Grell is a cross dressing suicidal raging homo and possibly my favorite character, William is the Reapers' manager, as it were, a real by the books type, and finally the Undertaker, the seemingly innocent but crazy grave digger that turns out to be the biggest legend of all the Reapers. Black Butler's cast is varied with pedophile noblemen, gender confused angels, and etc. Overall, I like more of the characters then I dislike. Animation: It's hard to explain, it's almost like a blend between newer style and older style animation. Something you'd have to see for yourself, but I like it. Music:
Nothing too memorable, but I like the flash back music, the intermission jingles, and one of the season's credits. I'm not sure which season, whichever one had the catchy pop song. Voice Acting: No complaints here, it's pretty good. Or maybe it's just all those British accents. Fan Service: Here's were it gets messy. See what I did there? It's not so much that it's full of yaoi fan service, more over that they try to sexaulize Ciel, who is twelve. I'd knock any anime for that, regardless of gender. Overall:
I really wanted to recommend this anime, but I can't do it. The flaws just detract from it to much. All the lack luster conclusions and not to mention the anti-climatic last episode. You expect this giant over the top battle and all you get is this angel offering his or her or it's body to Sebastian. Add that with the weird and awkward fan service this is a pass. I don't usually tell someone to pass on an anime with a dual 1911 wielding maid, but I'm afraid I have to. Unless you're into that sort of thing. Status: Rough around the edges Points of Interest: Glasses can change your appearance drastically. Angels are into bondage. Demons can taint and mark you through intercourse and make you see the kings.… Expand
