After trying so hard to like Homeland and failing in it, I came across The Americans and filled my spytvshow hunger. Best TV show in the last 3 years, nothing more to say. Just watch it

The most riveting series currently on TV. Gets better every season. Great acting, great characters. Kerry Russel is an absolute standout in a stellar cast.

Season 4 cuts freakin' glass. There's a whole lot of crap on TV these days with 400+ scripted shows. What you want to do is stick with the primo kush, and that's The Americans. Russell is so freakin' good - she's the bee's knees. And her husband is simply a break-out. He's always been good (Brothers & Sisters), but this series has made him certifiable. After several seasons we know the characters well enough to cut the writers some slack. It's still not particularly realistic, the couple is way to American, even in private, so their Russian patriotism seems a stretch. This is the best drama on TV right now. They have found the right balance of action, suspense, and old fashioned family drama to keep the show feeling mostly realistic. Much as I like this series and consider it one of the best ever, season 4 is bogged down by Paige. Season 3 ended with the big surprise of Paige getting to know the truth about her parents. In season 4, our favourite couple of spies is mainly worried about not "upsetting" Paige.

Therefore, they ask KGB headquarters to refrain from killing a couple of people who know their identity and could compromise their whole life. Obviously KGB obliges, because their main concern is also not upsetting an American teenager….

Apart from the Paige muddle, The Americans has a consistently strong plot with interesting roles for the whole cast. Relationships evolve in unexpected ways and characters interact in unusual ways, while some are terminated abruptly. Still loving the show. Would like it more with less Paige in it.

This is sadly the first season I have seen that has slid backwards.

The acting is still great, so no problems there. However the storylines were a lot less interesting. Maybe its because the renowned character actress Margo Martingale didn’t have as big an influence this season. Let me say that Frank Langella was a high point in the season. He is older now, but still able to push

Let me say that Frank Langella was a high point in the season. He is older now, but still able to push through with his acting and make me feel like he is a real person.

The low points came once again with Paige, the daughter. Now that they have told her who they are, they waffle around telling her no when she throws temper tantrums. That whole situation sucks and I try and fast forward sometimes through those scenes.

The other areas overall was Phillip’s fascination with EST, and more focus on the Rezidentura. None of those were entertaining and I don’t really care to know the people.

Pros: Frank Langella is still keeping it real.

Cons: Slower stories with no payoff, and the whole daughter situation. Can we please move on yet?

Builds off the success of the previous season with the perfect balance of even more drama, intensity, and action. The strongest season thus far. Smart and thoughtful writing hits you hard at every twist and turn, always leaving you on the edge of your seat. Keeping up the genius it's held since it's sophomore season it kicks into new gear as the double life becomes crowded with too many unknowns. Matthew and Kerri knock it out of the park delivering intimacy impossible out of real love. This is great television that despite not rivaling holds it's seat at the table without breaking a sweat

It’s heartbreaking, provoking literal nausea, with a psychic hangover unlike any other show. Believe it or not, that’s a recommendation.

The audience knows the truth, but The Americans’s showrunner, Joe Weisberg, mines exquisite drama from the intricacies of each lie being told, as all of the show’s alliances continue to teeter on the brink of disaster.
