Wow what a huge failing. Angel of Darkness is a rich textured story. Carr switches and uses Stevie Taggart as the book's narrator and we don't even see Stevie other than a cameo. The plot has been destroyed. I have never seen a worse adaptation. 1 point for the sets and CGI of old New York.

I'm enjoying this season even more then last! There's excitement every twist & turn. The show has me on the edge o seat. If you haven't been watching, your missing out! Your still think after you walk away from a show, tell me what show has made you do that in a while. Expand

Season 2 was really disappointing. It felt like the producers awarded the task of writing the script to the winners of a high-school writing contest. Also, and unlike Season 1, it dragged. They could have told the story in at least 2 fewer episodes.

SLightly disappointing second season. While the characters have evolved it's a shame the story hasn't.

After how gripping and exciting season 1 was I couldn’t wait until season 2, the characters along with the costumes and set design were fantastic, it was extremely disappointing when all of this was ruined in season 2, I can only assume they hate having viewers and want the series cancelled because no sane person would have changed the whole formula of the show which attracted so manyAfter how gripping and exciting season 1 was I couldn’t wait until season 2, the characters along with the costumes and set design were fantastic, it was extremely disappointing when all of this was ruined in season 2, I can only assume they hate having viewers and want the series cancelled because no sane person would have changed the whole formula of the show which attracted so many people to begin with, the show Alienist was no longer about the Alienist but about Sara Howard and her detective agency, I can only hope that if there is to be a season 3 they return to the formula which was so popular in the first sffifirsto.season.formula which was so popular Expand

If Fanning's relative stiffness was excusable in "The Alienist" owing to the idea that Sara's confidence in her intellect was new and constantly being assaulted in this man's world, here she's calcified her emotions. Brühl's Kreizler feels even stiffer, to the point of making Ted Levine's still-crooked Thomas Byrnes, the former police chief, achieve Snidely Whiplash levels of hamminess. He's only one character among a bevy of side players who come off as cartoonishly two-dimensional which is good news for Evans, who comes off OK in the midst of this.

While “Angel of Darkness” has its blaringly anachronistic moments — “sounds like a plan,” Sarah says at one point — it’s well-tooled and visually detailed enough to keep you coming back for more genteel punishment.

The Alienist never quite joined the ranks of The Americans or even Boardwalk Empire as a “great” period drama series, and Angel of Darkness doesn’t really see the show making that leap in quality. But sometimes all you want is a really compelling murder mystery with high production value and compelling characters, and in that way The Alienist: Angel of Darkness delivers.
