Are Republicans really this stupid? I watched the March 4th show a few minutes ago, and I'm stunned at how unprofessional and unfunny it was. How did the guy working the laugh track know when to turn it on? By the way, great timing having Ann Coulter on. Again, are Republicans really that stupid? Yes, they are.

I'm giving this a 10 to do my small part to keep this on the air because I really think that a weekly half hour of neocons trying to be funny just serves to make younger folks say to themselves, "Yeah, these are the type of people I want to associate myself with." But for those of you who are "seriously" giving it a 10 and trying to defend it, come on. Lay off the kool-aid. But for those of you who are "seriously" giving it a 10 and trying to defend it, come on. Lay off the kool-aid. I know that "The Daily Show" and "Colbert" tick you off but try to take ideology out of the mix and just see this for what it is. This is painful, god-awful stuff. It reminded me of a couple of high school kids trying to do a "Weekend Update" schtick. Come on now, folks. Nobody's listening. You're all alone at your computer. You can admit it. This blows like a Class 5 hurricane, doesn't it? There now. Doesn't that feel better? What Fox really needs to do is try to buy the rights to those clips from "The Daily Show" and "Colbert" where Stewart, Colbert, et al. are skewering the Clintons, Pelosi, et al. Between TDS and CR, there's eight shows a week. The clips slamming the left from each of them would easily fill up 22 minutes of air time for Fox and it would be light-years funnier than what they've got now with this. Expand

People who disagree with it's views will be endlessly annoyed by it, no matter how much it makes fun of conservatives. Like the Daily Show, some people will probably watch this show just to have their personal beliefs validated and just to see the opposing view attacked. This show makes fun of liberals the way a 5th grade class clown makes fun of a substitute teacher. Luckily there's a Disney-Channel-style laugh track (roaring laughter immediately following every supposedly humorous line) so the viewer can tell what to guffaw at. To paraphrase Larry the Cable Guy: "I don't care who you are, that's just not funny right there."

Really, really, really awful. This is on a REAL news channel -- showing fake news. It's like Fox wanted to say all these things during the "real" news but can only get away with it in a "satire" (yeah, right) show. Not funny, tries way too hard, and ridiculously partisan. In contrast, what I like about Stewart and Colbert is that they poke fun at both political parties, and use actual news events to bolster thier jokes (thus the Emmys). One painfully humorless segment consisted of correspondent Jay Thomas (formerly of Cheers fame) doing man on the street interviews where he queried your average joe/joan types concerning their willingness to elect members of various segments of society, including dwarves, homosexuals, and women. I believe the humor was supposed to be derived from their inane responses. Unfortunately their answers usually consisted of just "yes" or "no." Maybe it's just me, but watching your average dumbasses giving yes or no answers to stupid yes or no questions is just not funny. Another segment featured the billionth tired take on the whole "John Edwards is a closeted queer who preaches a populist message while maintaining a billion dollar account balance" thing, a premise equally as unfunny as the tired liberal "Ann Coulter is a raging lesbian bitch" schtick. We get it. Expand

This show is not just 'Daily Show for Republicans'. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report don't explicitly target conservatives with their humor. Rather, the two shows are designed the mock the media, pundits, and 'investigative' reporting first, with conservatives often being the victim of collateral damage. The 1/2 Hour News Hour, on the other hand, lacks the ingenuity of the other programs (or the sometimes clever writing of SNL) and instead makes a bunch of obvious and old jokes targeting liberal stereotypes. Furthermore, the female anchor, the announcer, and Ann Coulter are all just terrible at acting. Expand

Awful. Just unredeemingly bad. Limbaugh as comic? Coulter? Neither of them has an ounce of comedic talent. Even if they had the best writers on the planet, they would still suck. And they have the worst writers on the planet. I wouldn't take a leak on this show, if it were on fire. Let it burn. And I've just learned that Fox is cancelling it!!!!! It was a comedy show? I thought it was someone filling in for O'Reilly.

They just don't get it, do they? Too bad none of the good comedy writers are right-wingers. This program deserves to be euthanized.

They needed the Draft - for comedic writers. The volunteer force wasn't up to the task....

It was like telling a joke and forgetting the punch line. Were the hosts real people? That stuff on BBC is not as dry as this program. Waste of money!!!!

This show truly was terrible. Not even Fox's loyal audience you stomach it. That it made 17 episodes is a testament to the programming directors stubbornly unrealistic sense of optimism that an audience could be found for this tripe. It made New Coke look like a good idea.

Dennis Miller once commented garrulously with florid flourishes on the issues of the day with an acerbic wit and a well-honed showman's flair. It was a fun schtick.. He landed his comedic hits and pointed barbs in a way that more often than not elevated the audience, making them feel more intelligent than either they or Dennis Miller probably actually were.

    This show was the inverse

This show was the inverse of that. It felt like the show made you feel dumber than anyone could possibly be on the issued on the day because Dennis had by then turned into a rabid ideologue who was no longer funny but embittered with lousy analogies of whom he had his long list of beefs with. It was simply re-used diatribe from the 1st show to the last show. There are more poignant and funny right wing commentators on any blog, news site, or forum on the Internet today.

  1. A look at the first episode suggests that, just as A.M. radio is the unassailable province of the right, TV might better be left to the left.
  2. "Weekend Update" on its worst night isn't this bad.
