May 27, 2015This is a cartoon like version of history. Vikings takes some liberties but is well acted and written. Santa Ana might as well be Snidely Whiplash/ Almost every character is overacted.

Jun 2, 2015By far worst Mini series in a while. Some scenes add nothing to the actual story of the day. Ray Liotta's character has what purpose...? Did some people actually get paid for putting this together ...? Whoever thought and approved this for production must be out of a job or should at least be looking for a new line of work. Pitiful....

May 30, 2015Hard to get over this geographic disgrace. Culturally offensive. Horrible, horrible accents... horrible. I now question everything I have seen on the History Channel. What a disservice to recorded history. A trip through the Institute of Texas Cultures would have done wonders for the writers of this climatic disappointment. I feel embarrassed for the cast and crew.

Jun 2, 2015"Texas Rising" is an insult to both Texas and reality, possibly produced by folks in L.A., England, or Austin who hope to cash in on the current serial bonanza. Texas U. cheerleaders yell "Texas Fight! Texas Fight! Texas Fight!" Not Sam Houston's Army. I thought I was watching a comedy.

May 26, 2015I was looking forward to seeing the series but was very disappointed. Hard to follow had to work at watching it. Moved to Turn. It is not worth spending time on.
-
Jun 11, 2015The writer grew up in Houston, but that did not save him from mangling Texas history and geography with a script that would embarrass a mediocre 1960s western.

May 26, 2015Leave it to Hollywood was really looking forward to show and was disappointed in the first scene. I live in south Texas and there are no canyons down here and to add insult to injury there are no mountains in Goliad. If your going to tell a true story at least get the background right.

May 26, 2015What a disappointment when you have such a good cast. The story and dialogue are weak and flat. The two young characters are annoyingly superfluous as a side-story. A total waste of my time. I will give the 2nd episode a try, but, I don't think it will suddenly develop into a story with teeth. The reality of such poor stories and dialogue have had me watching the old movies since I was a kid.

May 26, 2015This is one of the worst written and screen played movies pertaining to the American history that I have ever seen. I almost believe it's an insult to the great state of Texas and the people who gave their lives to make it an American territory.

May 26, 2015The first episode that has aired isn't a strong one, it's slow and at times dull, but the show does has potential. Many television shows have started out with not so good first episodes, but end up being surprisingly great. Optimistically hoping Texas Rising is one of them.

Jun 4, 2015The series is well done from a visual point of view. The aesthetics work out nicely.
Unfortunately that is pretty much it. The writing is horrid, the character portrayal is flat and boring and the overall dramaturgy is simply appalling, heavy-handed and outdated. It feels like a bad film from the 60s, just with the visuals of a current day production. Not worth anyone's time. -

Jul 4, 2015Americans love and honor their history. Once again they managed аwesome mini-series! Great acting, interesting events, action, reality. This is not fantasy, but no worse licked all "Game of Thrones"))
-
May 29, 2015The disclaimer before title sequence should read 'fictional fantasy based on romanticized personal accounts'. This show is like most people have pointed out is filmed in California not Texas. There's no reason to have the cast do exaggerated accents . Santa Anna I have a feeling will have a drastically different outcome after his defeat than what happened in real life.

Jun 6, 2015Just watched episode 3. This is my last one. Someone should ask for their money back, advertisers. Like I said I won't watch the last episodes, seems less historical than glorified for certain characters.

Jun 5, 2015Horrible, horrible.
"Don't Mess With Texas"
To bad the writers were not required to take Texas history and geography in high school like all Texans.
Yes, we have a unique accent, but not anything like this.
Goliad is 171 feet above sea level. NO MOUNTAINS. -
Jun 6, 2015Producers of Texas Rising don't know chit about Texas, its geography, its history or pronunciation of the Sabine River. Blowing the tiny Yellow Rose myth into a major factor in the series was a major boring mistake. And I would love to see someone get 3 baskets of rattlers on some Rube Goldberg rig in a tree!

Dec 9, 2018The acting isn't good and the story plays out pretty terrible. I expected way more from this series and was disappointed to see it turn out like this.
Awards & Rankings
-
The action is so saddled with laughable dialogue and dreadful pacing that not even Paxton's always entertaining scene-chewing can make this inherently interesting tale pop as it should. [29 May/5 Jun 2015, p.98]
-
The overall plotting is as disjointed as it is clichéd.
-
Texas Rising is tonally challenged in a way that regularly undercuts its own inherent drama.
