The animation is some bright and sparkly homage to the 1970s that completely misses the point of this dark comedy. Civilians die by the hundreds, heads explode, and heroes are more destructive than any villain. Not exactly a set up for the sun glistening off a pristine Florida beach. Toss some trash on that beach, give us an oil slick or two, and then you have something that fits the story.

The set up is interesting. A group of supervillains is trying to get rich without hurting anyone. Despite their powers, their antics are little more than smash and grab operations. Even the final heist is a variation of “Ocean’s Eleven”. Show us why the story is better with super powers! At one point, there is a long hallway of death and at the end is a button that turns off all the traps. One of the villains has telekinetic powers. He could push the button with this mind. Instead the villains use the slowest, worst possible means of reaching the button. All of the plotting is lazy and stupid.

The dialogue is no better. I could fill a 10 minute YouTube video with characters going “hmph”. The female characters are mainly just for show. You might think super powers are the great gender equalizer, but it’s a man’s world in the Millerverse. At one point, the characters from “Jupiter’s Legacy” show up. “Jupiter’s Legacy” was a live action show about a discount Justice League. We already have those in “The Boys”, “Invincible”, “Eternals”, and a few other properties. What audiences really want is the Justice League. Netflix announced the cancellation of “Jupiter’s Legacy” after the first week of the show’s release. “Super Crooks” is the animated left overs of that universe. At least “Super Crooks” had the decency to end on its own terms. Too many Netflix shows are killed mid cliff hanger. Honestly, I could not watch all of this. After about 8 episodes, I skipped to the end. This kind of show could work, just not for made up C and D list supervillains. Give us a show with rejects from Arkham Asylum or cast offs from the Avengers movies. Of course, Netflix cannot do that. They don’t have the rights.
