This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Stateless is an intriguing dramatized take on a high-profile true story, effectively presented with equally intriguing intersecting stories. Cate Blanchett, even with her limited screentime, gives a great performance, and Yvonne Strahovski, known for her incredible turn on The Handmaid's Tale gives one of the best TV performances I have seen recently. Faysal Bazzi, meanwhile, is the heart of the show. Stateless jumps off with Sofie but gradually turns its spotlight on him towards the end. While not on the same level of nuance and experience as Strahovski, Blanchett, and West, Bazzi is affecting and unforgettable as Ameer. The rest of the cast give great to serviceable performances, but it also should be noted and commended that the show cast former refugees as background artists.

Stateless could have benefitted from a slightly tighter script for more "oomph" but as is, with a little patience, it is a well-researched, well-acted, and compelling piece.

While the series is interesting from a political standpoint and gives a look at australias horrible detention centers, this series fails as a tv series. The acting is bad, and the writing is boring. This would have been quite ok as a movie. While the series is interesting from a political standpoint and gives a look at australias horrible detention centers, this series fails as a tv series. The acting is bad, and the writing is boring. This would have been quite ok as a movie. But I got quite bored after 2 episodes and just wanted it to end or something interesting to happen. But the whole thing is just too stretched out. After reading about the true story that this series is based upon, also I was wondering why the series writers choose to change so much of the story. For example they changed the name of the main protagonist and also changed the name of the cult she joined from Kenja Communication to GOPA. Which is quite odd especially considering that GOPA is a real organisation too. Expand
