Apr 22, 2019Tried to be battle star galactica: stargate edition and failed miserably at it. The storyline was picking up right as it got canceled, but I never had any hopes it was going to be any good.
Most of the characters were as trashy as their acting.
Mediocre is the best rating I can give it, and I LOVED stargate sg-1 AND Atlantis. -

Sep 22, 2014They should have called this show Battlegate Galactica because it was obvious from day one that they wanted to copy what people loved about that show.
This series can join Star Trek Enterprise in the group of spin offs that killed their franchises.
The saddest thing is that the last episode was actually fairly good, everything else was tedious and boring. -
Jan 12, 2014This show had a lot of potential. It's a shame it was never given the chance to show how good it really was.

May 24, 2013I think Stargate Universe is the best Stargate show ever! Sometimes the plot was a little repetitive, for example the quantity of 'time travels'. However, it wasn't too repetitive, each episode had a contribution to the history. Moreover, each character had your own psychological evolution in the series.
To sum up, I loved this series! I'd like SyFi bring it back! -

Oct 3, 2011I am and always be an SG1 fan I also love SGA. I tried to like SGU but there was nothing to connect me to these characters the only it had in common with SG1 was a Star Gate. I gave up hope for it to improve the show was clearly going for a new audience not fans of the original show. SGU was the first Syfy cancellation I was happy about.

Jun 14, 2011The first season has a big long nothin'-much-happenin' period, and the communication stones are overused, but overall it's a great show. I much prefer the more serious tone of SGU and the BSG remake to other shows in the SG franchise.
Add to that the amount of stuff going on in the 2nd season and you're in for a corker. -

May 11, 2011Just loved it, shame it's ended when it finally became excellent... :-(
Especially liked the second season when they cut the boring cr*p and went on with the story. -
May 10, 2011Took a bit to get into it's grove (good half of the first season), but once it hit it's stride, been quite good- to the point where it's one of the few shows I watch despite lacking cable.
Waste it's been cancelled... -
May 3, 2011Every week this show finds a why to smother the science fiction genre to death. It really is not so hard. Every week you beam (or gate) down to a planet shoot some alien in the face and hook up with some green chick.
-
Apr 25, 2011Too bad no one gave it a chance. The episodes are getting better, but maybe the first 1 1/2 season of character development was too much for some people.

Sep 30, 2010This ticks all the boxes for me, i like sci-fi so may be a bit biast, but its definetly got plenty in the story line to go. People are moaning its not got enough to it, but its only just finished season 1, its just warming up!!!
-
Aug 17, 2010This is a shame and a disgrace for the Stargate franchise. Incredibly boring, cheesy characters and no action whatsoever. Don't waste your time watching it.

StephanieCApr 15, 2010I can't wait for the next episode.

OliverO.Feb 2, 2010Granted, it is not as good as SG-1 and Atlantas, but still a very solid show that is worth watching.

DanteIFeb 2, 2010Horrible. Frankly, i loved all stargate's franchise, but this is a joke. Drama sucks, that's why we watch Science fiction.

MikeDJan 18, 2010Dr. Rush and Eli Wallace are great characters and the episodes are actually connected in some way, unlike the random jumping around of SG-1 and SG-A. It shows promise but needs to take a step back from being a soap.

BobbleHatJan 12, 2010Lost !! In Space !! Can it ever hope to be as good as SG1 or SGA? Can it ever hope to have a decent watchable episode? Can it ever develop characters ior plots into something we are interested in watching? No !!! So just CAN IT !!!

keithrDec 28, 2009Every time I watched it I expected it to get better. But it is just boring and deary every time. Definaitely soap not sci-fi. In fact if it did not say they were on ship they could just as well be on an oil rig. We have had 10 episodes and know nothing obout the ship. There is no humour or anything sci-fi ish to hold my attention any longer, so I am going to drop it.

richarddDec 28, 2009All the weaknesses of BSG (unlikeable charactes, petty interpersonal dramas), but none of the strengths (compelling writing, depth of charctes, philisophical issues). Poorly acted, poorly written; such a shame... Finally, as others note, the ultimate condemnation: more boring than watching paint dry.

AlanGDec 9, 2009Every week I keep hoping it will improve and every week I'm disappointed. It's far more soap than sci-fi. If they do decide to do another series I hope they read some of the comments posted here and get it right!

greenmDec 8, 2009SGU? Poor writing, thin plots and thinner characters. Instead of reaching out, it reaches in. Bad idea. Such a shame with so much potential. Very disappointing.

JackfDec 4, 2009Univertse is terrible. The charachtes are two-dimensional at best and the whole show has the look and feel of a soap opera. And why for god's sake haven't they found the lights yet. every scene seems to be shot in twilight.......... it's very depressing.

JohnHDec 1, 2009I hate the look and feel of it. Bad cast of characters that are too familiar with other hits. I can't get Labamba out of my head, among other shows. Hate the explicit sexual content. Hate the characters. I really liked sg1 and atlantis, but am super disappointed with this. I hope they scrap it and go back to their roots. Produce a family-friendly show without all of the crap.

SamCNov 30, 2009At first I was skeptical, didn't think I'd like SGU, but it's grown on me so much that I can hardly wait each week for the next episode.

-
LizHNov 30, 2009Boring. If it wasn't for Robert Carlisle I'd have gave up weeks ago. Bit confusing at times. This had so much potential but it's being ruined with too much personal life back fill; why keep returning to Earth? Need more action on planets they're visiting to keep fans interested. No real plot, bit of a rehash of other series, e.g. Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica.

AnonymousMCNov 27, 2009just not as good as it's predecessors, but still watchable on a weekly basis.

GaryWNov 24, 2009Stargate Universe is not a simple retread of Stargate: SG-1 or Sargate Atlantis which is exactly why I love SGU. It's edgy, it's stressed
-
-
JackLNov 24, 2009Is this really Stargate? Where is the hope, optimism, humor? I see none of it. I see no science or interesting technology, just bimbo lesbians and who slept with who. Too dark and edgy for me, it's garbage.
-
-
carlTNov 23, 2009they have wasted an opertunity to make good scifi and turned it into bog brother in space.I'm not interested in who is shaggin who and peoples inner most depression.lets see people pushed to the limits and meeting the challenge.curious, driven people. come on SGU pull it together

AdamGNov 21, 2009Show has too many characters, Some key characters need to go, and are unlikeable (at least three characters are good however). Writing isnt too strong. Way too much sex in first couple of episodes. Seems to appeal to the 14 year old male. No real strong woman characters

LewisCNov 18, 2009I loved SG1, but never really got into Atlantis as I really just viewed it as an improvement or much of a variation on the original show. Saying that, SGU takes things to another level with a new perspective on the whole theme of the show. Characters are brilliant and stories are alot more interesting than in SGA!

BobHNov 15, 2009This show is officialy dead on arrival. I have painfully tried to find any redeeming quaity in this sorry excuse for an extension of the Stargate trilogy which I haved loved for years. This version is dark, dreadful and boring without one character I care anything about. I have officially taken it off my TIVO. What were the creators thinking?
-
-
WaynePNov 14, 2009I rate this SGU a 4 because there are no intellegent advasaries we've seen in the past stargates. I will continue to watch but if i don't see any interesting changes in the story line i will have to move on to watch reruns of past stargate shows.
-
-
AliHNov 12, 2009I really really wanted to love this show but it's so depressing - I'm all in favour of gritty realism but at least throw the audience a bone and put in a bit of humour in there, even if it's dark humour! I decided to stop watching it today when I realised I was bored and swiftly becoming depressed - that never happened to me watching Stargate SG1.
-
-
GhostNov 9, 2009This is the crappiest thing I ever seen. This is not the Stargate we all love. They just killed the franchise by transforming it into a soup opera!

JohnNov 9, 2009If people want BSG, then watch that... I hated it. Its sad that Stargate is now a soap opera. The first 2 episodes looked promising and I told myself that they were just building characters... nope, I need to find a new show now. Maybe someone will turn the new Star Trek movie into a series. And please leave out the drama!

Awards & Rankings
-
Stories aren't particularly dense or surprising, and some of the conflict feels quite contrived
-
Hopefully the story itself, which finds a band of alien-attack victims jumping blindly through a Stargate and landing on a mysterious spaceship billions of light years from Earth, will eventually transcend this premiere's BSG-lite-ness.
-
With 19 episodes remaining in this season, there's plenty of time for all this drama to intensify and the characters to sort themselves out as good and not-so-good.
