This is one of my favorite seasons of Stargate SG-1.

The first thing that totally makes this season greater than its predecessors is that the main cast has changed a bit. We now have the awesome, selfish and funny Vala Mal Doran in the show. I **** love her, and yes it’s a bit sad that both O’Neill and General Hammond is gone but the new characters are just as great and the show really feels new and fresh. Cameron Mitchell as the leader of SG-1 is superb, maybe not as entertaining as O’Neill but I totally love him. The season starts with extremely innovative sci-fi episodes with an introduction of a new enemy, the Ori. One thing I love with this franchise is that they take religion and mythology and mix them around until it gets epic. The Ori is an enemy that’s even scarier and more dangerous than the Goa’uld, that’s one of the great things with this ninth season. There are still some downsides. One thing is that it’s a bit too drastic that they removed all the big enemies in only two episodes. It feels like they came up with the idea with the Ori and just took a big shovel and took the Replicators and the Goa’uld and throw it away. It feels to rash. There’s also much Jaffa-politics, and I totally love it. But I don’t think everyone would agree with me on that one. Still, I really love this season and the best episodes are of course "Avalon (Part 1 & 2)", "Origin", "Beachhead", "The Fourth Horseman (Part 1 & 2)", "Ethon", "Off the Grid", "Arthur's Mantle", "Crusade" and ”Camelot”. There have never been another season of SG-1 that got so much great episodes.

This ninth season is wonderful, and the epic scale of sci-fi in this franchise truly is spectacular.

The average score for each episode is: 8.32.
    Stargate SG-1: Season 9 gets an 9/10.

Season 9 sets up a new great arc or enemy, had mayor changes to the SG1 team and makes Ba‘al a favorite character. He is such an enjoyable bad guy. The last season crippled the Goa’uld and destroyed the Replicators so a new great enemy was needed including a shift in mythodology. I do not like the Ori except as concept but I got used to them. I thing the Ancients are worse than them and are guilty of arrogance, complacency and hypocrisy. For the SG1 team we get support from Farscape with Ben Browder as Cameron Mitchell and Vala Mal Doran played by Claudia Black who returns (introduced in an episode from the previous season). I am satisfied here and say the make the most out of the situation. While I liked the Ideas this season was a bit of a disappointment or maybe a bit underwhelming. Again it is not bad but does not wow me either. Also I think like in the Expanse they are morons for the same reason. There is for both an incredibly advanced race out there that vanished and in both shows they do not ask why or if there is maybe a reason. But to be fair this could just be me. I said a lot in my reviews that a strength of the show is the set up of characters and arcs. Many things will be build up and have impacts or developments in later seasons or were prepared in previous seasons to unfold. With the new mayor arc nothing changes here. Lets go to my favourite episodes before my final rating. “Avalon part 1 and 2” and “Origin” set up the new menace, team and lore. It is fine but barley in my favourite list. “Beachhead” gives a perspective of things to come and is also a Vala episode. “Ex Deus Machina” for Ba’al, the smart scheme and set ups (Team power ;-). “Collateral Damage” for the murder mystery, idea and great twists. The ending was amazing and if you thing of it absolute logical. “Ripple Effect” for nostalgia, the idea, twists and team action ;-). Also the humour is great. “Camelot” for setting things up and giving hope and despair. Overall I give a 7/10 as it is not truly bad just less amazing than previous seasons. Expand
