Stargate SG-1 got its mojo back!

This eighth season of Stargate SG-1 is great, just as all previous seasons. There are many episodes that take place in space rather than on Earth, which is awesome! This eighth season of Stargate SG-1 is great, just as all previous seasons. There are many episodes that take place in space rather than on Earth, which is awesome! The season takes place after the death of Anubis and the power vacuum that now exists within the Goa’uld. It’s a great season, I can tell you that. It feels like the franchise got its adventure back, which it did lose a bit in the seventh season. The best episodes is by far "New Order (Part 1 & 2)", "Endgame", "Prometheus Unbound", ”It's Good to Be King", "Reckoning (Part 1 & 2)", "Threads" and "Moebius (Part 1 & 2)". There are therefor many awesome episodes, and not many awful ones as in the seventh season. One thing I have noticed is that the main story of the franchise has fallen away: to explore new worlds. The show only focuses on Earth, Jaffa, Goa’uld and so on. Not on new worlds.

But it’s still better than the seventh season, and one of the best in the franchise.

The average score for each episode is: 7.99.
    Stargate SG-1: Season 8 gets an 8/10.

Season 8 has a lot of developments and battles that challenge the status quo. While Anubis was defeated at the battle at Earth in season 7 final it is unsure if he is gone for good. While Anubis was defeated at the battle at Earth in season 7 final it is unsure if he is gone for good. Also the other Goa’uld system lords are weakened like never before and the Replicators are still on the rise. This season will shaken the established powers and often is an uphill battle to save the day or galaxy or moral superiority. It might be a bit to much for one season but it was well done and I was satisfied. I said a lot in my reviews that a strength of the show is the set up of characters and arcs. Many things will be build up and have impacts or developments in later seasons or were prepared in previous seasons to unfold. Together with the cast we get an amazing experience. Also the spin off Stargate Atlantis starts here and I will review it separately. On the negative side I find the season final boring or maybe underwhelming might be the better word. It has also less great episodes than the last seasons or fells like it. For clarification: Again I say it has no truly weak episodes here but some are average to good instead of great / amazing. I continue with my favourites before the final rating: “New Order part 1 and 2” deals with the aftermath of the season 7 final, the changing status quo and Replicators. “Lockdown” is in the Corona times a strange title but that was far before that. It shows that we celebrated to early and a huge menace is not dealt that easily. I am vague to avoid spoilers but it could be expected to be this way. “Zero Hour” for the all sides trying to outsmart and manipulate the others. “Covenant” for the cat and mouse games, the character Alec Colson and nice playing with conspiracy theories. Also the ending shows you how serious it is. “Endgame” deals with a different menace than outside aggressors and is intense. Special mention for “Prometheus Unbound” for introducing Vala but it would not be on my favourite list otherwise. “Its good to be King” for the hilarious situation, humour and resolve. The character that returns here slowly became a favourite side character for me. “Full Alert” for the idea, menace, cat and mouse game and conclusion. Special mention for “Citizen Joe” as I am not sure if it is brilliant, bad or so bad it is good. However I like the idea without a doubt. “Reckoning part 1 and 2” and “Threads” should be the season final. Those are intense struggles, you get resolve, intense struggles and an amazing twist in “Threads” that works so well (but could be foreseen if you think about it a bit). Would this be the end of the season I think I can see me giving a 9-10/10. Like I said the season finale “Moebius part 1 and 2” is underwhelming. It is the first season final I disliked in the show. I would not rewatch and it decreases my rating a bit. Overall I give a 7/10 here. Like I already said there are some less great episodes compared to previous seasons but the good ones give satisfactions. Expand
