    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first episode set the bar real high and the second episode was just so bad. The art style of the first episode is just so unique, the story itself leaves so much unexplained, in a great way. Who is this wanderer? Why is he on that planet? Why is he even helping the village and why does he collect blood Kyber Crystals? Is he a grey Jedi? An ex sith? And then theres the second episode, a padawan joining a band, really? And the band **** sucked. The third episode was okay, some things didn't make any sense like how did the brother breathe in space and how did he sneak in an X wing without anyone noticing it. I can go on and on with every episode but its just really a hit or miss, some episodes are great, others aren't. Easy as that… Expand

    It is an amazing idea to let Japanese animation studios produce their own Star Wars stories and it works well. They got me with the first episode and they put heart and soul into everything. I watched the season in one sitting and say the force is strong here. It is as expected a mixture of Japanese culture aka anime, Samurai movies, style, tropes and ideas included into Star Wars. ThereIt is an amazing idea to let Japanese animation studios produce their own Star Wars stories and it works well. They got me with the first episode and they put heart and soul into everything. I watched the season in one sitting and say the force is strong here. It is as expected a mixture of Japanese culture aka anime, Samurai movies, style, tropes and ideas included into Star Wars. There is already an overlap as Samurai and Jedi are similar (Codex, lifelong training, great warriors, can fall to the dark side etc.) Before anyone mentions it: I know that most Jedi are not fighters but those are rarely shown in the movies, series and books (If you don't believe me just look up the agricultural corps, medical corps and diplomatic corps of the Jedi Order). Just as remark for the Show: The episodes are out of continuity or at least hard to pinpoint and hardcore fans should find some errors but this was never the point. It is about telling compelling stories, use ideas and connect this with the studios. I think I give an overview about the episodes: “The Duel” is inspired by “The seven Samurai” and an amazing start. Well paced, amazing style and impressive characters. Highlight of the show and worth continuing. “Tatooine Rhapsody” is unlike everything I expected and works quite well. I wont spoil anything and just say the episode rocks ;-). “The Twins” has great action, interesting ideas and 2 likable characters with the twins. Also good philosophical dilemma. “The village Bride” is a worldbuilding tale with a good climax. A set up for more I hope. “The ninth Jedi” has a great story, great characters, surprises and I hope they continue the story as I see great potential here. Easily another highlight. “T0-B1” This is charming and warms your heart. I was reminded of Astro Boy and Pinocchio. Good idea, main character and optimistic outlook. “The Elder” shows an adventure that has a meaningful lesson. Be it for a Jedi, Padawan or the viewer. “Lop and Ocho” is again something I want to see more of. Great lovable, characters, moral dilemma and emotions. Another highlight. “Akakiri” is like a Samurai drama and I am amazed that they pulled this of. This was awesome ride and I was deeply impressed. Many of these episodes are so good that I want to see more of the characters and how their stories progress. Even the episodes that are not my favorites have hearth and soul put into. Visually the style is excellent and truly a strength. Overall I give a 10/10 and say it was refreshing and amazing. We need more like this and I recommend it for fans of Star Wars, Japanese movies / culture and maybe even non fans.… Expand

    A monument to Disney's failure to do anything but damage the star wars brand. How ironic it is that the second that they hand the keys over to LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE we get what is arguably the best pieces of star wars media to come out in recent years. Makes you think.....

    I loved the idea of creating shorts in the SW universe with a heavy Asian/Anime influence, but unfortunately, most of the stories are shallow and uninteresting, to say the least. You hear a lot of people saying that these don't really feel like SW and I think a part of that reason is that there is an absence of thematic music present. It doesn't have to be John Williams score, as Mandalorian and the SW tv series have proved-- just something in keeping with that which ties the world together.

    As it is, this feels like the studios were given free rein to do whatever they want, as long as it had lightsabers, Jedi, blasters, ships and droids in it. But you can't just slap those "things" together and expect it to bring the same Star Wars feels.

    I really wanted to like this much more than I did. I love animated anthologies that showcase a variety of styles, but I have seen far more heart present in fan-made projects over the years. This was just not all that interesting to watch and I had a really hard time caring about any of the characters.

    It COULD have been great, as the recent SW books have shown in the short form fiction (From a Certain Point of View series and the SW Tales series) but these just fell pretty flat. But they were pretty.

    Also-- I just cannot believe that some of the reviews here are praising this so highly. I swear Disney is paying people to pad their numbers here...    … Expand

    Disney found a way to even bring the worst out in Studio Trigger. This is the most disappointing turn out of anime studios ever. It's clear Disney didn't pay these studios enough to give a sh*t.

    This might just be my favorite thing Star Wars has EVER done, and I'm a longtime mega fan. Give me more anime Star Wars, stat!

    I loved the first episode, but the concept of the second one was off-putting. I appreciate this unexpected content from Disney-owned Lucasfilm, but I know consistency will not be one of its qualities — because of the format —. But I'll keep watching hoping to find episodes as good as the first one.

    This is a really unique project that is the most original Star Wars has been since the original movie. Because its an anthology the results are a bit varied, but many of these I would like to see extended to a tv show.

    It is only fitting that anime studios get a chance to work on Star Wars related media as Star Wars itself is heavily influenced by Japanese culture...don't binge this and take your time as you will appreciate everything more.

    Star Wars: Visions does an excellent job in blending both Japanese anime and the magic of Star Wars. The majority of the episodes are diverse and well made, with the exception of one or two. I sometimes forgot I was watching something Star Wars until a lightsaber was ignited or a melody from one of John William's scores came through.

    Gorgeous little self contained stories, most of the episodes have a well developed plot with payoffs in the end, but a select few of them are incredibly hard to follow along with, or seem to lack any context in the slightest.

    9/10 amazing eye candy, needs plot sometimes.

    Every short has something to offer, and something to distinguish itself. From start to finish, it’s a totally remarkable series, and an undeniable argument that taking big risks can result in some of the most interesting art.

    For an anthology, Star Wars: Visions is remarkably consistent in its quality. There are no flat-out bad episodes in the bunch, though some are stronger than others. The weakest tend to rely too heavily on a prior investment in the ongoing battle between the light side and the dark side.
