This show ranges from obnoxious to absolutely brilliant. From Jar Jar to Ventress the best thing about this show is its sprawling worldbuilding.

But this was only because the creators were a bit cautious to try new things. Season 2 suddenly throws the show into overdrive, and it stays consistently fantastic until the end.

You thought you loved Obi-Wan before? Well now he's even better. But you know someone you probably dislike? Anakin? Well, he's great now, apparently. But we're not even at the best bit yet: Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka is one of the best characters in Star Wars history. She's Anakin's teenage apprentice, who starts as a bit of a stereotypical sidekick character, but gets so much development as the series continues. It also continues into Rebels, where she's now an adult. She secretly hates the Jedi Order (much like her master) which gets fully explored in Season 5.

The incredible world building and character development shown by Filoni's vision is enough to compete with the Original Trilogy. If you're thinking of getting into Prequel media, you might want to watch the PT first, or at least one or two movies, but if you just want to know a bit about what Obi-Wan and Anakin were up to before A New Hope, watch this, it's so good.

Something I forgot to mention is that it's an anthology series, meaning that the episodes aren't released in chronological order, so if you want to watch the series in exact order, it starts with the episode Cat & Mouse, then Hidden Enemy, then the feature film. You can simply look up what's after that. If you simply want to see the best of the series, start with the Mandalore Plot and Voyage of Temptation. Then the Nightsisters Arc. Then you have some choice as to where you want to go next, I'd say watch some Maul stuff, Bounty Hunter Obi-Wan, Umbara and the Ahsoka arc at the end of Season 5. You might want to watch some other Ahsoka stuff before, so you can learn a bit about her character (Lightsaber Lost is pretty good). The final episode of Season 6 is also great and it stars Mark Hamill! But try to avoid Season 1.

The show used to be on Netflix, but sadly it's since been taken down. However, it's now on Disney+ if you want to get that for a while (and they are adding two new seasons next year, woo-hoo!) But if you really can't wait to get into it, you can probably find some seasonal DVDs on Amazon or eBay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This series doesn't exactly start on the right foot but for fans of anything Star Wars there are plenty of character arcs to satisfy them. In the first 2 seasons the episodes are a mixed bag with lots of one ep arcs and with the senate. I really like the Jedi arcs like Plo Koon's and Kit Fisto's but other than that Jar Jar and Padme adventures are a bit on the boring side to watch, although Padme gets some good episodes in later seasons. I suggest watching it chronologically and not by date the seasons came out. If you make it through the first 2 seasons then you will be in for a ride. The chemistry between Ahsoka, Rex and Anakin with Obi Wan is amazing. You can really see the friendship between Obi and Anakin, something the movies kinda failed to show and also Captain Rex with Ahsoka. These two start on the wrong foot just as the series but by season 7 you will be tearing up a lot when you see them together. To sum up, if you're not willing to watch all 66 hours of the show, search the internet for the best arcs and you'll be in for a fun time!! Expand

However the show dives into characters that you would never expect to see in a star wars story. Ashoka starts off as a know it all Mary Sue. However she develops into one of the best star wars characters ever, as you see her grow from a overconfident padawan to a humble jedi (However I do believe she is not as iconic as the all star characters from OT). Anakin is incredibly likeable, you understand is motivations as well as justify some of his actions in Revenge of the Sith. Obi Wan has the best episodic arcs in the series like bounty hunter arc and Mandalore. Finally we have Captain Rex who is my personal favorite main character, his character development is what makes the clones so relatable. Umbara is the second best arc on the show as it focuses primarily on the clones and with their outlook on the war. The clones are important to their story, they do not particularly know why they even exist. Might I add the side characters are really cool (Fives, Cad Bane, Plo Koon, Yoda, Mace Windu and Asajj Ventress. Overall it was the thing that people who were born in the early to mid 2000s loved, however looking back on it, Nostalgia does not affect the show. In fact it became better after cancellation. Expand

WARNING: This show is about 60% filler. That being said, you don't need to watch all seven seasons to know what's going on, so you can skip the dumb episodes if you want.

The animation starts out rough, and then gets 10 times better after every season. By season 7, any sort of "jank" present in the earlier seasons is completely gone.

The characters, both original and returning, are fantastic. Anakin embodies what you would expect from pre-dark side Vader. He has 0 problem killing people to save his friends. Obi-wan tells a lot of dad-jokes, but is also more flawed than he appears in the movies. His relationship with Darth Maul (yeah, he's in this) is one of the best parts of the show. Maul is ruthless, and just wants to make Obi-wan suffer for what he did to him. Ahsoka starts off as a bit of a know-it-all, but as the show progresses she becomes much wiser. Rex is a clone who serves under Anakin, and he gets alot of character development over the course of the show. Ventress is another cool character, who starts as a rage-filled assassin, but begins to figure out more about herself and the universe later on. There are too many good characters in this show. Overall, fantastic show, but it suffers from the filler. The characters' stories are continued in Rebels, a luxury most other cancelled shows don't have.

Some recommended episodes:

Season 2 E11-13
Season 3 E12-14
Season 4 E7-10, 15-17, 21-22 Season 5 E1, E14-20
Season 7 E9-12

If you liked the premise of the prequel movies, this is that but executed to near perfection.

Seasons 1 and 2 are fairly mixed overall as the quality of story, animation, writing, and general episode quality is fairly sporadic. Even the later seasons still have some duds, but the overall quality of the show is absolutely astonishing during season 3-7. The voice acting is pretty spot on throughout the show and give life to almost every character. The biggest highlight of the show is how the writers are able to make us care about a bunch soldiers that look almost the same. Without going into spoilers, it's easy for me to say that the story lines involving the clones, especially the "Umbara" and "the bad batch" arcs, are some of the best in the whole series. Another great thing is how the writers are able to get you to challenge your view on the whole good guys vs bad guys narrative, and very convincingly at that. Ahsoka is a fantastic original main character in this show whose progression throughout the story is truly special. This show originally made for kids was able to have some of the most emotional and darkest moments in the whole of the franchises movie/television catalog.
