These elite clones don't know the first thing about simple squad tactics, but instead stand out in the open to be shot at and choose to tackle and punch stormtroopers and droids most of the time. The characters are laughably bad; the dumb brute, the smart tech guy, the wise leader, and none of them have the tiniest bit of a character arc. Throw in the inexplicable blond female clone child that adds the "gee wiz" factor to complete the trifecta of stupidity. I have trouble thinking of anything positive to say about this show. As a huge Star Wars fan I just might skip future seasons as it brings nothing new or interesting to the Star Wars universe. P.S. I'm tired of the Clone Wars marionette animation style that is now over 15 years old. Can we try something new? Expand

Very good concept, pretty good execution. Animation is great as well as the designs and graphics in general, the music is outstanding as well as the screenplay and all that.
The characters are pretty likeable for the most part, the core group is great with all the clones being really fun to see on screen as well as badass. The story so far isn't overly amazing, but intresting nonetheless and enjoyable.
All of this already puts it over most things star wars has put out under Disney's lead, but there are some flaws too.

First off, Bad Batch is a bit childish. Not unbareably so like Resistance or annoyingly so like Rebels, but you can still see it now and then, a fair bit more than Clone Wars, sitting somewhere between it and rebels. Omega, while a nice concept, often seems to fall into boring "small child-bait, look it's relatable haha" character, although, unlike Ezra or the Resistance characters, she has traits and moments which kind of redeem her, putting her closer to how Ahsoka was in CW S.1

While I do see people's complaints, unlike the early seasons of rebels and all of Resistance this show mostly kept my attention and kept me invested, even with Omega, with a few, but not too many, eyeroll moments due to the childishness.

Overall, I can see why people have an issue with some of its childishness, but I also feel like the show is definitely starting a lot stronger than Rebels or Resistance, and knowing that CW started Ahsoka off in a similar way, I have trust that the creators of this show will make Omega into a great character over the course of the show.

Apart from Omega, the rest of the show gets zero complaints from me, some people says the Cameos are "Fan-Service" to which i say maybe, but i like them, it makes the universe feel cohesive and they felt like they fit and were fun and intresting instead of harming the story

Overall, if you like Clone Wars, I think you should give it a chance

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Can a home run and a swing and a miss occur at the same time? Yes, yes it can!

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an audio-visual paradox that is an enjoyable, engaging watch that unfortunately highlights some bad choices at an executive level. But fortunately, the bad executive choices have no bearing on how good the show itself is.

In no uncertain terms, with Disney having control at the top level, this show should have been pitched, assessed; slated and tabled for a live-action series. That was one of the first impressions I had; and continue to have had with every subsequent episode that I’ve enjoyed.

The storyline is compelling, albeit a little dark in comparison to The Clone Wars, and tells of a group of genetically advanced (although the word ‘defective’ gets thrown around a lot in the show) clones whose team role resembles something akin to special forces. The group find themselves, somewhat unwillingly, working for the Empire and when told to execute some pretty questionable orders choose to take another path which results in them being hunted and on the run. Chaos ensues when they also find themselves taking care of, and protecting, a clone child whose DNA is the key to starting production of vastly superior clone troopers. Something that is extremely valuable and attracts the attention of the Empire, criminals, and bounty hunters alike.

To keep it short the show’s storyline consists of complex moral choices, betrayal, blackmail and greed. But also, redemption, selflessness, camaraderie and occasional light-heartedness and humour.

However, in spite of all this being everything that makes the show as good as it is, this is also everything that would have made it perfect for capturing a vastly greater audience and everything that made The Mandalorian such a hit. Which makes you question why the show shouldn’t have made its way to live-action; that is, despite the financial reasons and logistical hurdles or the pandemic.

In comparison to its closest kin, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it hits the mark. I even enjoy the clean break away from any focus on Jedi and Sith involvement to something completely different; much like Rogue One did in the movie series. But The Bad Batch, much like The Clone Wars, only holds sway with a limited younger audience or those mature viewers who have an interest in animated shows. The Mandalorian, by comparison, attracted a large audience comprising of long-term fans, new fans and even viewers who had no interest in the extended Star Wars universe at all. So, the irritating thing for me when watching and assessing the storyline of The Bad Batch was that I was thinking to myself “This is good and very compelling. This could even rival The Mandalorian if it had been live-action.” But then having to resign myself to the fact, that even while I enjoy it so much, I couldn’t share it with friends and family that have little to no interest in animated shows; but who had loved The Mandalorian.

Another note would be that, in spite of its age rating, it contains themes (such as certain moral choices, battles; violence and wounding) that some people would enjoy as a mature viewer and some parents would air on the side of caution introducing to an audience below, let’s say, eight to ten years old.

Having said that if, like me, you enjoy the Star Wars extended universe and have no issues with animated or CGI additions then I’ve no doubt you’ll find Star Wars: The Bad Batch a welcome addition and enjoyable watch.

With the last I mean the excellent fan service. A lot of characters return from Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian and others. For me as fan this was amazing as I was invested into the continuation of their stories or events from their past. Clarification The Bad Batch is set shortly after the Clone Wars but before Rebels and even more years before the Mandalorian in the time line. However for those who do not know these characters it is a lesser experience by definition. A main critique was that we get something different than expected. Many thought this will be like the A-Team in space or an action series (Don't get me wrong here there is action and it is good). We get more of character development, bonding, interactions and a new character named Omega. This is fine for me and Omega is a great and fascinating character that won me over. However like I said this was an unexpected turn and others did not like her so I say a warning is fair. The Bad Batch aka Clone Force 99 are a unit of abnormal clones which means not that they are a failure. All of them have special abilities that exceed their normal brothers and as unit they are a force to be recognized. They appeared in the final season of the Clone Wars and were awesome there. The story starts right at the end of the Clone Wars when order 66 takes place and left our heroes in now unfamiliar territory as the galaxy will change drastically. As they are on their base / home of Kamino they meet Omega and have to make hard decisions. I tried my best to avoid spoilers. It has personal stories and overall stories as the galaxy changes. The story works mostly well but some episodes feel like filler material. However the cast of characters and fan service helped a lot. It was amazing to see familiar faces again and see more of their stories. This was a true strength of the show and I often applauded here. Like I said if you do not know these characters this could be the place where you end watching the show. Lets continue with the characters. Omega takes a huge role and won me over. She is not as hardened as the others and can be the hearth or conscience of the team. The other members work well too. I liked Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech and Crosshair. All of them have their moments but Crosshair and Hunter have more than the others. Crosshair’s arc is probably the best. I wont spoil the returning characters but say those were amazing and often put a huge smile on my face. While I am at it the show has also good humor (I only say Muchi;-). Of cause they added also new characters and these work fine too. I hope some return in later seasons. For me in total the characters work excellent and this is another strength. The presentation is top notch and has a good art style. To be fair there is no truly bad animated Star Wars show so this was expected. Soundtrack was also never an issue in any Star Wars medium I encountered. There are some negatives. There are some weaker episodes which I considered as filler. Omega starts a bit weaker too but became a character I don't want to miss. Her growth and development is really good. Lets continue with my favorite episodes: “Aftermath” for the strong start, story and setting up the new status quo. “Cut and Run” for the returning characters, character growth and showing even more of the new reality. “Rampage” for the story, humor and of cause Muchi. “Bounty Lost” for an amazing bounty hunter duel, story and development. “Rescue on Ryloth” for more backstories of beloved characters, character development and ideas. Finally the season final “Return to Kamino” and “Kamino Lost” for the unexpected turn of events, long awaited talks, twist and character moments. Overall this was a good first season. It had its weaknesses but the strong characters, development and fan services turned the tide. I am divided between a 7/10 and 8/10. I will go for a rounded up 8/10. Expand

Fantastic work by all. I love seeing all the people embracing the empire - something really missing from the rest of the franchise. People so happy to see the end of war, that they don't see the oppression that's about to engulf their lives. Nicely done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My review contains spoilers, you've been warned.

1)Fillers and charachter development(meaning the lacking of it):
Everyone have noticed that the show contained A LOT of filler episodes, but only a few realize that sometimes such episodes can be used to show something new about our charachters and use this time to develop them, to show what they are, what are they thinking etc. But instead of it we got bad jokes, the absence of intresting moral dilemas, and the lack of visible changes in the galaxy(Sure there was an episode with the Confederacy senator but it was so boring and I could feel all that wasted potential for political discussions and the clash of beliefs). 2)The antagonists and the Kamino problem.
As for the antagonists I'd say that they're actions were at least foolish. Why? Let's start with the fact that the Empire decided to show hostility to the Kaminoans right from the start, instead of subjugating them openly and taking full control of the cloning operation or trying to negotiate with them and achieving a certain understanding. Later on they decide to destroy an entire facility(sure they took some of the equipment, but still ain't that wasteful? Of course it is.) The showrunners wanted to show us "the end of an Era" and they did not care how it would accure and look in terms of logic. As long as there were Kevin Kiner's soundtrack, the ruins of something familliar to the viewer and heroes who would say a few sad words the people would weep. Some of viewers probably did but not me, because I couldn't enjoy this choice. In legends there was a REBELLION of the Kaminoans, and the Empire wiped them out the Kaminoans. See? There was a REASON for it. But here? Here is nothing. 3)Cameos.
Alright here we go. I do enjoy seeing an old faces, believe me. But you see there should be a limit for such things. The deserter clone Cut is a good choice. I can understand appearances of Rex and Cad Bane. Since the first one is a friend to many clones, and the second is one of many bounty hunters in search of the bounty. Fennic Shand? Martez sisters? Fennic was good in a Mandalorian, but do we really need to see her backstory here?We-e-e-ell alright I can live with that. But then the sisters...I never liked them. The chemestry between them is an illusion of it, and they aren't interesting in any way. So yes ladied and gentlemen, believe it or not but the galaxy is big and adding so much of the charachters in ONE SEASON ain't really helping. To summarize:

What I enjoyed:
-Soundtrack;
-Omega charachter(yeah I know it's a rare thing);
-Animation.
-Cameo's.

What I disliked:
-no charachter development for most of the main heroes;
-waste of time with the filler episodes;
-foolish villains;
-filler episodes;
-bad choices in writing.
-a great number of cameos.
