Had a hard time finishing the first episode. Bad acting, uninterresting characters. The style is not my cup of tea. Seems like the public target is teenagers.

Come on, really? Anything over 3 stars for this show is generous. Watch anything before it and it quickly degrades. I don't even want to get into how bad this is. Final nail into the Disney SW coffin.

The acting is REALLY atrocious with some side-characters sounding like they’re reading their lines while half asleep. The writing is no better, genuinely just feels like more disingenuous JJ Abrams trash. At this point I think it’s safe to say that Star Wars needs to be put out to pasture, or taken out behind the shed. Expand

It's just so bad (watched the first 3 episodes and will stop now) that you, or at least I do, get angry from watching it. So better stay away and act as if it never happened, just like episode 7-9.

Right out of the gate the first shot is so over-lit and plastic looking, the uniforms look cheap and fake. The camera angles have no energy, the frame rate is high so it looks like my TV has the "soap opera" effect on it. And it never really recovers. There's something stiff and lifeless about all of it. As for the main characters(who are all female), they are all mildly annoying to be honest, i can't speak much about the male characters yet, as there's hardly any in the show.
Maybe it'll improve, but i highly doubt it.

Other scenes look good, but they can´t lift up the bad storytelling, the one dimensional characters and the lack of tension. I really liked the animated Rebels series and like the fanservice here and there, but sadly that´s not enough to keep the series from a very mediocre rating. I expected more from Mr. Filony, but maybe Kathleen "The Force is Female" Kennedy had to much power, when creating this series. Who knows...? Anyway, there´s not ONE character in the series, that I find sympathetic, except Chopper... And that should tell you what the real problem is... But hey, time to move on... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Angsty drop out Sabine Wren and her two moms, Ahsoka and Herra, solve children's puzzles between long pauses and long unnecessary call backs to others shows you may not have seen. This show promises to answer such riveting questions as: Will Hera be able to convince Sabine to move out of her sky basement and make something of her life? How can someone know that finding Thrawn could prevent a war, but not have any idea of what war or how finding him would be helpful?

Is it possible to set a lightsaber to 'mildly stun'?

Noone will be left standing during the riveting inspection scene where Ahsoka and Hera discus how to get their daughter back to college and then a random droid voluntarily spills the villain's secrets completely unprompted.

Nothing really happens in the first two episodes of this show and the characters seem muted and stereotypical. The "puzzles" are laughable and almost insulting to the intelligence of the audience. The fetch quest McGuffin and stakes of the show seems contrived and uninteresting, much like the wooden writing that paints the characters as nothing more than simple archetypes we've seen in 100s of shows before this one.

The action choreography is also pretty bad. I get that rigging and more intense fight scenes can be expensive for a streaming show but there are times when the fight choreography is as stupid as the puzzles. There is one scene where Sabine is fighting the moody apprentice who has a double ended lightsaber and their lightsabers are locked for like the 6th time and all the apprentice would have to do to kill Sabine is just flick the other end of her saber. Star wars has always had silly flourishes in their fight scenes but something about how the fight scenes are blocked really emphasize just how bad some of the fighting is. All the main characters should already be dead based on how terrible they are at wilding a lightsaber.

While some viewers appreciate the emphasis on diversity and inclusion, others feel that this approach has overshadowed the classic essence of the series.

The injection of "woke" themes, such as feminism and anti-establishment sentiments, is a clear departure from the franchise's earlier focus. While these ideas might resonate with some audiences, they have also sparked debate among long-time fans who were initially drawn to the saga for its timeless storytelling.

One point of contention is the characterization in the newer films. Some feel that the characters lack the depth and development seen in the original trilogy, leading to a less engaging viewing experience. Additionally, the heavy use of green screens for filming has been noted by some critics, impacting the authenticity of the performances.

The writing, too, has been a topic of discussion. Some viewers appreciate the attempt to introduce modern societal issues into the narrative, while others view it as a veneer that can overshadow the core story. Finding the right balance between addressing contemporary concerns and maintaining the essence of Star Wars has proven to be a challenge.

In summary, Disney's handling of the Star Wars franchise has sparked both praise and criticism. The shift towards addressing current social issues has reshaped the series, inviting new perspectives while also distancing it from its original charm. As with any major creative endeavor, opinions on these changes will likely remain diverse and impassioned.

Having studied and performed as aPoorly written, and performed by less than professionals, “Ahsoka” fails at script, delivery and pace. It also fails to present compelling action sequences or correctly recreate the Star Wars universe. Having studied and performed as a professional actor in Manhattan for over a decade, I will explain my above allegations, and prove why we mustn’t support the current regime in Hollywood. This generation of pretenders needs to fail and exit before professional cinematic arts can return to our country. In “Ahsoka”, actors recite lines unnaturally with long pauses between responses; this occurs when actors haven’t memorized their lines. The actors also fail to carry out tasks while talking. Speaking while acting physically is a staple in professional cinema: the performer must be able to walk and talk as the same time. Trained professionals spend years executing complex tasks while reciting lines with peers in order to perform correctly on screen. “Ahsoka” tries to show off instead of relate to its audience. This is a common mistake among novice writers, or worse, “experienced” hacks who’ve never learned the art. The problem is further compounded by Disney’s neurotic “Woke” need to elevate women over men, causing the production to lean politically and lose sight of its true purpose: storytelling of mythic proportions. When the script STATES the story verbally instead of presenting it physically, then you’re no longer ACTING. A proper writer makes room for performance while creating depth of character thru conversation. The lines in “Ahsoka” are overtly simple, preventing any nuance, compelling conversation or ability to surprise from materializing. Dialogue here fails to develop character, and further fails to sound natural. A proper script creates thought, doubt and emotion in the audience. Filoni’s dumbed down lines are condescending; even children can handle deeper vocabulary and more complex plot than he dares to deliver. This is an issue Filoni inherits from his animation days, and one he’s obviously failed to overcome.

Any learned Star Wars fan will notice an absence of respect to the I.P. in every detail: whether it be the lack of the classic text crawl at the start, or how the captain of the rebel ship says “you have the bridge”, (a statement which is absolutely Star Trek). A very telling example is how Rosario Dawson phones in her action sequences, as any out of shape forty-year-old would. Ahsoka is supposed to be an extremely agile character, and the lack of wire work in this show betrays the lack of commitment from the production. As with most contemporary Hollywood creations, the majesty of composer Kevin Kiner and the thoughtful eye of cinematographers Eric Steelberg and Quyen Tran are completely eclipsed by the shortcomings of a greedy industry, unwilling to make effort, instead choosing to lean on the previous generation’s extended efforts for cash.

Ahsoka seems to have gone to the Harry Hamlin school of acting (i.e no facial expressions - even Spock had more expressiveness). It is Star Wars so it does get 1-2 points for that. Add another point for the sets and CGI (not great) and you get a base of 2-3 points. The animated TV shows (Clone Wars and Rebels) were good. One got more emotion from the not-so-great animation of those shows. So, I'd give this a 4 and say "definitely not a must-see - watch the other animated shows." Expand

I was honestly hoping that this show would bring back the Star Wars that was so loved, before Disney started to ruin it. Especially seeing Dave Filoni would be leading this project.
Well, lesson learned.

This show has started out very weak and I seriously doubt it will get any better. The story is so weak it's disturbing, with characters doing the dumbest mistakes or requiring the help of other characters when the answers are staring them in the face.

I was hoping that given the time she had Rosario Dawson would settle in into the Ahsoka that is so loved as a character. But she hasn't at all. For the most time Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka she's mostly expressionless and or she uses the same facial expressions in almost every situation.
And what's up with she always crossing her arms Obi-Wan style?! Ahsoka in The Clone Wars and Rebels had a lot more fire, and she was definitely more aware of what she needed to do and how to go about doing it.
But this Ahsoka is seeking advice from Hera when she doesn't even need to.

Natasha Bordizzo as Sabine Wren at first seemed like a great choice. That is until we start to she's little like the Sabine Wren of Rebels. Honestly, what did she learn from Ahsoka?! To unlearn how to fight. Because she in Rebels with the little training she received from Kanan, she was a much better fighter. Now her moves are sluggish and predictable.
There's none of the beauty of lightsaber combat seen in the Prequels, TCW and sometimes even in Rebels.

Speaking of lightsabers. Apparently the deadliest portable weapon in the galaxy is now less lethal than a blaster. Seeing that at least those that take a blaster fire they usually go down and stay that way for good. Lightsabers ever since Obi-Wan, you can get impaled in one episode and you'll be fine the next.
Also speaking of galaxy the story is desperately trying to make itself more interesting by shifting the action to very far away, as if that galaxy doesn't have a part of it named The Unknown Regions.

And the villains. Don't even get me started on those. It's easy being a villain when the other characters are all more or less IQ deficient. There might be some actual good story there about their background, but it seems clear that as soon as the show gets the chance they're going to get rid of them like they never even mattered at all.

Like I already pointed out the story is very weak. Almost feels like a lame videogame story, where characters have to go from checkpoint to checkpoint completing some challenges along the way, and of course so the story can move forward other characters need to leave breadcrumbs along the way or else this show would've ended in the first episode.

Very disappointed with the Ahsoka show. If it keeps going like this I might drop completely. This is definitely not Lucas Star Wars, and I should've known better than to expect it to be.
Face it, this show is just Disney milking this franchise of anything it still has, until there's nothing left.
A real shame. Truly.
Love the character but this show is not about the actual Ahsoka Tano.

Hell, ep 3 actually had an almost verbatim ripoff of Obi-Wan and Luke practicing on the Falcon in the first film. I already dislike Sabine and Ahsoka is just wallpaper. Who is this for? It's finally made me turn to the dark side. I'm pro-Empire now. I hope the Sith kill them all.

Oh, Ezra is the dude in the Dark Helmet (Spaceballs was better Star Wars than this). Caught that in episode 2, confirmed in 3.

Had potential, but quickly devolved into a pointless female-fronted rehash of all that was great about Star Wars. Reminds one of the Rey Skywalker dumpster fire, I'm starting to wonder if that is all Disney can do..

It lacks its own unique ideas, puzzles, and plot points. It is yet another whatever Star Wars show with a super weapon, old missing legacy characters, badly written dialogues. A lot of starring this time, though, like... a lot, as if someone was copying Mandalorian (without the helmet). And the secret map hidden behind elementary school riddles and puzzles, and of course: an item that will save us all! Did the writers actually watch the original Star Wars? Why are these new Star Wars shows and films always about some silly item, like a D&D session or a Dan Brown novel? Imagine Luke Skywalker searching the universe for a magical cube because... without it, he will never be a Jedi. Horrible writing. 4/10 for the effects. Expand

Disney outdid themselves once again. One might have thought that Star Wars hit rock-bottom, but no, Kennedy/Filoni has proven everybody wrong yet again. There is plenty of space to keep on digging even deeper.
This show not just had completely forgetful, unimaginative and pisspoorly written story(even GAI would probably have written a better script.) so far(ohh look, we are looking for yet another map, yay...or something), they managed to slow it down to a crawl, with constant pointless long pauses and padding, that whole show feels to be a filler for something else. Except that there is nothing else. I mean show is full of scenes that last for minutes, while they have maybe 5-10 seconds worth of content. Characters can quite literally say a sentence and then pause for 10 seconds, say another and pause for another 5. And they are not really saying anything that would require emphasizing, just general conversations. "Hi...How are you doing?...It is a beautiful day...We are talking...Sun is up today..."
It is equivalent of eating paper - tastes like nothing and has zero nutritional value. Watching paint dry is more entertaining. Time spent watching this could be spent much much better by doing literally anything else. ANYTHING!
To call choreographics amateurish would be an insult to amateurs. Pretty much same for effects. Both are average at best moments and neighborhood-kids-reinacting-star wars at the worst.
It is also takes special kind complete lack of talent and competence, to write show so devout of common sense or logic. Jesus F Christ, it is packed full of events that happened for no good reason, simply because script says so. And most of the time do not make any sense and contradict things established earlier in the SAME episode. It is one long line of convoluted coincidences and conveniences. "Puzzles" probably deserve their own mention, as coma patient probably would be able to solve them. Simply dropping those mcguffins would "solve" them. It was so incredibly primitive and poorly done, that even 3-year-old would probably throw it back at you for insulting his intelligence.
And of course, how we could not have gone without it, how trash can go on without being stuffed full of progressive causes. If only they put as much effort into...anything else, as they put into girlbossing.
0/10 for show, 10/10 for Lucasfilm reaching another milestone of incompetence.

I personaly didn't like this version of Ahsoka Tano played by Rosario Dawson, can't say if it is the acting or the direction, but spite that, all other characters are pretty great.
After watching the 4th ep now, i look forward to see where the story leads.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Episode 3: New episode: slightly better. More actions, Space battles. and Empire strike back style music which felt good ( really good compared to the previous 2 shows ) but for all the slightly better feel good, the episode is minuscule like a vignette. It is infuriating that we got, maybe 20 minutes or screentime and the rest was the intro and then almost 10 minutes of credits. These lucasfilm people sure like to plaster their names on the screen at the expense of screen time.

This episode energy should have been what the first 2 episodes should have been like. Slow again at the start but then finally a bit of Andor shenanigans and then an very decent Empire Strike Back dogfight with good music like i said. Still no Thrawn.

In the grand scheme of things, this show might end up ranking lower than Bobba Fett due to it being all over the place as far as story and god awful runtime.

I feel that i should stop right now and binge watch this trainwreck on a weekend so that i am not so pissed off at the end of each episode. I am thinking about it... really hard in fact!

Not, it's not perfect - the visual effects are strong but not totally seamless, and some costuming decisions are questionable. At the same time, this is not a cynical or halfhearted work, and one detects that Dave Filoni and company are trying to do something new and daring with Star Wars's classic formulae. Some people will have decided to stay away before watching a single scene, and they *should.* For everyone else, I'd recommend giving this a shot. Expand

It is nothing special, wasted the great Rebels characters and the plot collapses when you start thinking about it. After the weak and disappointing Mandalorian season 3 this was the last hope for the Star Wars fans and Disney. Even more the Rebels characters and Thrawn return. Sadly the hype and hopes were crushed really fast. My favorite characters are barely recognizable. Sabine Wren is completely different and what happen with Ahsoka is beyond my understanding. I recommend Rebels instead where the whole cast won me over and I deeply cared for them. They had their arcs, character grow, great chemistry and challenges. Then there is the story. Like I said it collapses really fast. For examples with a “Slight spoiler warning”: There is a valuable MacGuffin that is collected in episode 1. Now think about the last emergency action. If succeed this would destroy it and everything ended here and now. Also the explosion is really strong for such a small frame. Use whatever this is for ship to ship combat. A small vessel should take down a Star Destroyer with ease. Then the puzzle that only Sabine could solve is child play. I could solve it in minutes by just try and error. Deadly lightsaber wounds are just small bruises now. Lastly a lot of people are incompetent. The captain of the prison ship, the villains for their carelessness with droids and the leadership of the republic for ignoring serious threads. Especially Mon Mothma is degraded here to powerless leader. She was the leader of the rebellion that took down the Empire and now she fears to make the correct decisions just to please people that are ignorant. I will say again that I don't blame the actors for a bad script. Eve a great actor can not save a bad movie or show. Overall this is not garbage but feels painfully generic. They wasted an opportunity, great characters and fall back to tropes we don't like. I quit after episode3 were nothing happened that pushed the story forward. Give a 4/10 even if its is better than Book of Boba Fett and Obi Wan. It is fatigue for bad stories. Star Wars is now dead and there is just apathy from the fans. Great job Disney for destroying the “Money printing franchise” Star Wars was. Expand

OMG the Purrgil just looks amazing, like who wouldn't love the world building in this and the storytelling just has Dave written all over it, like this is his baby, he's gonna do what he's gonna do and that is COOK.
Some people out here calling it boring, I swear the MCU have just spoiled people with too much explosions that they've turned people into mindless drones with the attention span of a toddler if there isn't an explosion every 5 seconds. Thus Show is true Star Wars.

A Captivating and Thrilling Journey: Ahsoka Shines in the Hands of Dave Filoni

"Ahsoka," the series directed and written by Dave Filoni, is a true masterpiece that transports viewers into an exciting and engaging adventure. Filoni, known for his talent in authentically expanding the Star Wars universe, brings all his brilliance to breathe life into Ahsoka Tano's journey.

The skillfully crafted narrative captures the essence of the beloved character without losing sight of the richness of the world she inhabits. Filoni constructs an atmosphere that is both familiar and intriguing, providing an experience that keeps viewers both captivated and eager to discover what's to come.

The script is a true highlight of the series. The interactions between characters are genuine, full of depth and evolution. Ahsoka Tano, in particular, is brought to life remarkably, exploring her personal journey in a way that respects her pre-existing history while also expanding it in an exciting manner. Filoni's writing does justice to the complexity of Star Wars themes, incorporating elements of action, exploration, and moral reflection, all with a skill that leaves viewers hungry for more.

Dave Filoni's direction is visually impressive. Each scene is carefully composed, highlighting both the intricate details of the locations and the emotions of the characters. The visuals are enhanced by an immersive soundtrack that evokes the characteristic feeling of the Star Wars saga, both immersive and emotional.

Furthermore, the "Ahsoka" series has the ability to attract both long-time Star Wars fans and those who might be venturing into this universe for the first time. Filoni's balanced approach offers nostalgia to fans but also introduces new elements to keep the story interesting and accessible.

In summary, "Ahsoka" is a series that shines thanks to Dave Filoni's undeniable talent. With an engaging narrative, captivating characters, and visually stunning direction, the series stands out as a notable addition to the Star Wars universe. Fans can prepare for an incredible journey, filled with emotions and twists, as they accompany Ahsoka Tano on her next adventure.

A tighter edit would help. It does bother me that being impaled by a light saber is no longer fatal or apparently much of a problem at all. And why is there so much wasted empty space on Ahsoka's ship? On the Millennium Falcon, every inch of space seemed to have a reason for being. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m… enjoying so far!

I’m pleasantly surprised with the first two episodes. Of course it’s too early to properly judge if it’ll stick the landing, but the first two episodes made me hopeful! Nothing is perfect. I’m sure not everyone will love it. A handful or more always nitpick, but:

I’m liking it. It really does feels like a Rebels Season 5 so far with the music, the characters, you can of course just feel that Filoni style, but him being the helm of his own show and also has “written by” credit in every episode and it’s some of the better elements(and some not so good things) of his work so far. It doesn’t feel as easy and bumbling as Rebels could sometimes be either lol as the enemies seem actually maybe formidable?

Episode 1 slow for the first half and picks up a ton toward the second half. I’m glad it’s not a “wait till things happen in episode 6” type deal.

The characters feel like their rebels counterparts and also are likeable I think. One or two dumb tactical things and nitpicks but it looks and feels like Star Wars. Nothing glaringly wrong to me I’d have to fine tooth comb for this one. The villains are cool and not whiny I don’t think. Two voice actors I saw returned for live action too as well as of course our favorite sass droid. And special shoutouts to the actresses playing their rebel counterparts. I especially like Sabine and Hera is a close second. Ahsoka is good too but Rosario never stuck COMPLETELY with me as Ahsoka. She’s great but the others play their counterparts better I think.

Episode 2 really seems to pick up. The pacing keeps up and the action keeps up.. The writing seems sensible, it still looks good and consistent. nothing is glaring or out of place.

Nothing like people running into tree branches from a mile away level, don’t worry lol. Speeders and ships move fast and everything lmao.

We all know what I’m referencing lmfao.

It’s sensible. The story isn’t easy. It looks good, the acting is good. It seems there’s actually a budget here.

Also, here’s the spoiler part, people are arguing the logic of a character surviving a lightsaber stab wound. If you can’t get past that then maybe you won’t like it, but when it happened, there was a fully outfitted ship right overhead to swoop her up and keep her stable. She’s also down for the count for most of episode 2.

Its… good so far! I’m actually excited to watch next week!

It is gracefully paced, the fight scenes are impressive, the artistic direction and effects are spot on, and the acting is consistenly on point. Dawson in particular is a tremendous choice for Ahsoka at this stage in her life, bringing both gravitas and a sly sense of humour, as well as having the look down cold.

As I'm sorry to see so many one-note negative reviews, let me add that as male fan of Star Wars since the original release of what became known as A New Hope, I'm delighted to see a female-centric series. And the Star Wars universe is big enough that those who can't abide by strong female leads can find their happy place elsewhere. It's your loss.

The exposition dumps are the weakest part of the show so far, but hopefully these will be kept to a minimum now that the uninitiated have been introduced to the characters and backstory.

A lot of these butthurt fans wouldn't like the classic movies based on their own critiques. "Wooden dialogue"? Excuse me but have you watched the original trilogy recently? Dialogue has never been Star Wars strong suit--if you want that go watch 12 Angry Men or something.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly don't get the hate the show is getting. Kinda looks like we have reached the point, where everything Disney does, is met with hate, which is quite understandable looking at their track record. After 3 episodes I'd say, it is not as bad as e.g. Obi Wan, or Boba Fat, but it is not genuinley good either. Another mediocre show with potential in both directions.

What works for me: The main cast, I think, everybody does a decent job so far. The slower pacing, reminds me a lot of old western movies, or samurai movies (but I get that action kiddies these days rate shows by explosions per minute). Some of the cgi and effects, I think, everyting in space looks awesome. Most action scenes, I have seen a lot worse fight scenes and lightsaber battles, especially in Star Wars. The new villains, suffienctly creepy.

What does not work for me: The map as a plot device, I kinda have an idea what it is ment to be (migrational paths of space whales) but the very idea that there is a specific map to Thrawn is dumb. Thrawn as the savior of the empire, he is gone for many years, is there not a decent officer left in this galaxy? The other part of the cgi, it is funny how one episode you can see some of the best right along some of the worst. The costumes look wrong and very very cheap. Yet another lightsaber wound survived without trouble, this gets borderline stupid, the blade is probably hotter than the surface of the sun. How borderline stupid the new republic is.

What I honestly don't get is people complaining about the female centric cast. Nobody complained about that on Rebels. I have the feeling, these days dudes will complain about too many girls in lesbian porn :D

The glup **** meme is actually a real thing now with Disney Star Wars, truly breathtaking that they managed to tank the franchise so hard and do such a disservice to their most popular characters that they now have to parade around a fan fiction character invented by a greasy hack who wears a cowboy hat to cover up his receding hairline.
Does it make any sense to the story that George Lucas told that this character is around for 3 different eras and does nothing to help in any conflict after she disappears using time travel? Does it add anything to the franchise to have her steal the Thrawn storyline that belongs to Luke and co?
I am sorry but Star Wars is dead, and Filoni is pissing on it's grave.
