Wow! Star Trek: Prodigy just premiered, an animated television series from CBS and in association with Nickelodeon, and I can finally say I've seen the best Star Trek on screen since the final season of Enterprise in 2006. 15 YEARS.

It's also the best Star Wars screen production I've seen... well, since Mandalorian, but not counting that... since Return of the Jedi. ;). It's amusing how

Great animation, fantastic voice acting where I don't recognize most of the voices for once (tired of voice acting using the same 6 actors in everything), sharp writing, great soundtrack that I thought sounded a LOT like Giacchino's 2009 Star Trek score (and indeed he was involved in this with the theme at least), and a really strong start to a proper family-friendly Star Trek.

Maybe it could be because there's been such a long drought since we had truly excellent Star Trek, but I give this first episode an A+.

A beautifully made series that introduces younger audiences to the ideals of Star Trek. It is like a remix of all of the Star Trek films and TV shows, with elements borrowed from other sci-fi franchises like Dune, Destiny, and Star Trek: Rebels, while maintaining an identity of its own. The characters are strong and the message of hope and wonder is worthwhile.

Star Trek Prodigy is considered the first Trek for younger viewers, but I feel like it works for all ages. It makes some dramatic choices with the pilot, but the themes of communication and teamwork as they aspire for the stars were evident. As they venture out into the galaxy with Hologram Janeway as their guide, hopefully they will bring young Trek fans with them.

Top notch animated style, a little reminiscent of Clone Wars (in a good way), but pretty clear this is going in a different direction. Lots of little nods to old school Star Trek (like a Medusan character from TOS) as well as hints at what's to come with Janeway in the future after Voyager. Live long and prosper, the kids will be all right.

One of the two best Star Trek shows currently on the air, and they are both animated. Kids love it, older Trek fans like me also get a kick out of it, and it truly embraces the spirit of the Federation. Star Trek: Prodigy is a winner, and as Hologram Janeway shows them the ropes I think this will quickly grow to be a fan favorite.

This was surprisingly entertaining. I'm giving it an 8, because it doesn't really feel like Star Trek right now. But that may change. As first episodes go I liked it better than Discovery.

Brilliant show...it is a fresh touch while we wait for the new series to air...I love the rock person with the kid's voice ..reminds me of Korg in Ragnarock

If you're wondering, "how many woke gender assumption jokes they can FORCE into the first episode to confuse my kids?" Why 4 is the answer.

I made an account just so I could leave this review. What an appalling piece of garbage and an absolute slog it was to wade through this show. I tried to like it, I really did, but it just failed to hit any mark. This show felt like a bootleg Pixar studio tried to make their own Star Wars show. And that's right, I said Star Wars, because this does NOT feel like the Star Trek I known. YouI made an account just so I could leave this review. You can call me jaded and nostalgic all you want and not take my review seriously, but trust me when I say that this steaming pile of a nightmare does NOT represent Star Trek one bit. How can a show miss the target this badly?! Expand

My favorite Star Trek was the Berman era with TNG, DS9 and Voyager. This series is just starting, but shows clear reverence for the themes of its predecessors. The art design is gorgeous, and while it looks a little like Star Wars at first, that goes away quickly. Beautiful series. Love that Janeway appears again!

Great visuals, fun characters for kids. I love the spirit of found family in these ragamuffin alien teens as they search for a new life with Starfleet.

The double-sized premiere of Prodigy seems to be entirely in its own lane, refreshingly unconcerned with previous Star Trek series until two minutes before the closing credits.

Star Trek: Prodigy sets up a fun story that’s only somewhat connected to the greater canon of the Trek franchise, but with the addition of Mulgrew, makes the show accessible to newcomers and Trek fans alike.

There’s potential here, albeit of a moderate sort—the character banter, with an ensemble featuring not just one but four different versions of comic relief, is passable, and John Noble could (and maybe is) do this kind of role in his sleep. The series is aimed at children, but in a cheery all-ages kind of way that avoids insulting its audience even if it never quite manages to impress them.
