Exciting, well mixed. Unfortunately, the whole HD version on BluRay is not free of compression in the picture due to the lack of bitrate. The digital streaming variants are even worse. It's also a pity that everything was shot in an image format that would look good on old Western or Hostoria films, but not in a top modern science fiction series adapted to domestic TV sets. Despite all this, a recommendation for all Trekkies

It is everything that Star Trek was never meant to be. It focuses on violence, dystopian themes, secret organizations, sex, war, yellow-journalism, distrust, capitalism, inter-personal drama, and every other lazy story telling element that a show can choose to utilize. They ruined entire characters by making them Han Solo, or by making them behave in ways opposite of what was established in former shows. They reduced the Federation to a cheap, poorly scripted reflection of today's society. Its overall quality and story-telling seems aimed at angsty teens, which is reflected in its lack of depth and meaning and focus on interpersonal-drama. Gone are the high-minded ideals and quality story telling of former shows. Instead we get something puked out and barely watchable unless you are in the mood for cheap action scifi. It isn't as bad as STD, but it is close. Expand

Inconsistencies, useless dialogues, scripts written by the janitor on a scrap of toilet paper 5mins before the shooting, changes of direction overnight etc are unfortunately the standard in modern shows. One can not expect a miracle just because it has star trek in the title. And one has to abuse the magic of fastforwarding... So the first season is very good, they take the time to lay down a world, the characters. The technique is impeccable throughout the show. Second season it starts going sideways, timetravel to fix **** so fresh, we haven't seen that before. The third is a **** but it brings back together the whole cast, and on the enterprise d on top of that, which is after all what we expected from the show, no matter what bs reason. Season 1 was for the most part well done and intriguing (and we just covered Season 2 IMHO). As a result, I really didn't have my hopes up for #3. I WAS WRONG to do so. #3 was the best of them all. Despite the fact that they cribbed off just about every SciFi franchise out there, they did a GREAT job! So much so that by the numerous epilogues in the finale' I found myself slowly golf clapping and muttering "well done, sirs" to myself as the screen faded to black and my heroes from the past 35 years took their (hopefully final) curtain call. I say final cuz I really can't imagine them doing a better job putting it to bed than this. I MAY wanna see cameos of some of these guys in spinoffs (Riker, Geordi & maybe Worf)..but poor Patrick Stewart. Jeez it seemed he could barely speak his lines at times..much less "act". Yeah, I hope he takes the hint and just gracefully retires. THIS "ending" is how I'd like to remember him. (Kirk out) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first two seasons of the series a cruel WOKE disaster, just bad. Now for the third season. The old characters are now supposed to save the first bad seasons, everything is fine, it starts well, but then the woke character of the first seasons creeps into the series again and again. Insidiously, not so obvious anymore, but first the naïve viewer should be hijacked, then at the end, boom, it really becomes 100% woke. Unfortunately, another season messed up, starts well, has good approaches, but is gradually pushed back into the political woke agenda in the course of the individual episodes, not quite as brutal as in the first seasons, but this time gently and slowly. Like a live frog in water in a pot on the stove. In the beginning, the frog (The Spectator) is in the lukewarm water (the series), then the water is slowly but steadily heated until it boils, killing the frog. The frog (the spectator) notices too late, but then it's already happened! How stupid do the producers think we are! It was probably worth the try, but not with us! Expand

Season 2 was a meandering mess, focusing too much on the childhood traumas of our protagonist. But season 3 ignited a spark of fandom that always smouldered inside every TNG fan. Now that the finale is over I am choked up with emotion and fulfillment. The writers have expertly woven in the threads of previous seasons, focusing on the meaning of a well-lived life - dedicated to duty and loyalty. If anything the interaction of old crew members shows that bonds forged last forever. A recurring theme is the eternal question of legacy, which certainly plagues any person blessed or cursed enough to reach old age. The struggles of parents and children span the ages, regardless of which galaxy you live in. This season is the most meaningful stellar conjugation and alignment of all the old shows, revisiting relics of the past while paying respectful tribute. The writers did a fantastic job, with quotes such as “Stars in the same galaxy, light years between us” and “We are not in control of what we pass on”. The power of memories demonstrated was very moving - we exist because of the memories that define us. It is fitting that Picard and his faithful crew would face up against his most iconic and lethal intergalactic foe, in yet another monumental showdown across time and space. Sci-Fi offers no greater villains.
If there is a recurring lesson here, sophisticated organizations like Starfleet are incredibly vulnerable to the slow, insidious, internal threat. The sins of past deeds do return on a titanic scale, and the arrogance of those in power hastens the demise. Seeing all the TNG crew together around the same table, older and way cooler, was a truly unforgettable moment in TV history. Other franchises that missed such opportunities will be held accountable for ages to come. It was particularly satisfying to see each of our beloved characters achieving their fullest potential and meaning in a life well-lived. I am so glad there was no empty fan service. This is truly a passing of the torch and legacy preservation. It was so fulfilling to see one last poker game before any of these beloved crew members trekked into the great beyond the afterlife. The after-credits scene aptly lays the ground for much anticipated and appreciated adventures to come.

Everything was wrong and woke with **** show (and I know just saying woke puts me on the other side automatically, but it's not true). Couldn't even finish that garbage.

Season 3? As with both seasons 1&2, it started out great and that always worries me. Those worries were unfounded. I'll steal the argument from RLM that it's really the SNG movie we always wanted. A great resolution to all the characters. I really enjoyed it, and that kinda bothered me, lol. Lots of fan service and member berries, but I did dig the plot. Can't say I liked Picard's son or Beverly Crusher (and they did a bit of wokiness in making her a **** expert on everything; and that plastic surgery made her look lie the girl puppet from the Puppet Master movies). I never liked Beverly Crusher so it didn't shock me that I don't now. And thank god they didn't get Wesley. I think I heard he's dead by now? Good! Overall I was pleasantly surprised.

Most annoying factor however is the character portrayed by Michelle Hurd. Would not mind if she made a swift exit.

I did't have high hopes for Picard at all so going into season 1 with very low expectations probably helped me to get through it. I was happy to see familiar faces back at it even if didn't hold up very well. Season 2 fell pretty flat with me with old tropes revisited and not very well. I wasn't interested in season 3 and wasn't going to 'engage' but boredom and reluctance to watch yet another Fail Army video tipped me over the edge. I can safely say I am so glad I gave it a go. Season 3 certainly has its flaws but it is one hell of a solid watch. Amanda Plummer is fantastic as Vadic with so many similarities to Khan. Todd Stashwick as the reluctant and somewhat haunted Captain Shaw is also a welcome addition. This series so far has offered plenty of action balanced with enough moments to give characters some depth. The ship design is so familiar and really pays homage to the original series and movies. The story is big and compelling and this I fear may be season 3's downfall. I could easily see this story stretched out of 2 x 10 ep seasons. I'm up to ep 7 and I fear there is no way they will be able to tie this up in a satisfying way. It's a shame this is the last season. Showrunner Terry Matalas has definitely worked some magic. For the first time in a while I actually feel like I'm watching Trek. Even has that quippy old school trek humour in the mix. Obviously this is not the Star Trek of old and if you go in with that expectation there are going to be disappointments, but it's important to remember the old series used to have 20+ episodes per season and a 7 season run. which gave plenty of time to build in all the aspects that people are crying this show doesn't have. Times have changed as have audiences. Season 3 is a good balance of old and new. The most disappointing thing, is that they didn't do this from season 1 Expand

This show has no redeeming qualities, if you haven't watched anything prior to Enterprise, it's just generic garbage that comes out of Netflix all the time but for the people who watched Enterprise and before, this show is a disgrace. They've split the fanbase, brought few new people in and left. Garbage writers and garbage show.

The Next Generation veterans have tried to defend the script, stating that what you’ll witness in these last episodes is character growth and development, but the simple truth is that Kurtzman gives absolutely no attention, care or concern to Gene Roddenberry’s deep narratives, wonderous settings or heroic individuals; they are all upended, without a second thought, and replaced willy-nilly with superficial references to other sagas in the genre, such as Star Wars, Aliens and Blade Runner.
How such thoughtless and spiritless management has risen to power in Hollywood is anyone’s guess, but the horrifying result is a massive plundering of childhood heroes and the stories which inspired an entire generation. Under this new regime, the identity of Star Trek is lost, and its name now only serves as a large, neon advertisement to draw unwitting customers to a capitalist slaughter. It is absolutely no coincidence that THE Sci-Fi brand with the most hope for humanity has been brought low by exactly those people who have no faith in mankind at all. Kurtzman has no right to reimagine Star Trek in his own image, because it lives and breathes in the hearts of its fans. His utter disregard for their position has doomed the franchise, and CBS finds itself picking scraps off the dining room floor as what was once a fiction behemoth is now in the final throes of death.

Picard in name only. Sir Patrick Stewart brings his fantastic acting abilities to bear but that only heightens the dissonance with the disastrous writing and one note characters.

Stewart mentioned BREXIT as an inspiration for his return to the character that made him famous but this bloody, indulgent show does nothing insightful or clever with the premise. New Trek already killed off Roddenberry's optimistic vision of a humanity that became better but the misuse of a legacy character dances on that grave. Old Trek writers could have added something to the public discussion, approaching sensitive issues from a new angle possible only through sci-fi, but this bomb relies on nostalgic call-backs, brutal violence, and flashy special effects to really say nothing at all. What's the point? The only take-away I had is that Executive Producer Sir Patrick Stewart really never understood Star Trek after all. A disappointment after listening to him speak meaningfully on the topic at conventions.

The success of the original was due of ALL thecrew members and their interactions, success, failure. I rewatched before Picard.
In addition here, no social agenda here. And a pleasure to see again, Commandant Data,Concelor Deanna Troi and Number One William Reeker, Hugh, hope there will be head of security, Lieutenant Worf. Not perfect but good stuff.

As usual Agnes is a one trick pony: a trojan horse for the plot.
What the hell is the point of Rafi? She is stupid, emotional, immoral, just awful.
Picard himself... Man, what a tragedy. This character has been neutered and lobotomised to bring him in line with the production staff.
Q has been obliterated by these idiots. His personality and Picard's have been swapped to a degree. He has no sense of humour, no fun, only anger and sad. Pathetic. And he's been dying before and didn't behave like this, so that's no excuse. This is such garbage. The entirety of the writing is cringe and awful. All of it could be in an ad for a pyramid scheme: it's just ethereal music and slow talking while making no sense.

This show exists as a king of welfare for awful production staff with specific politics. Nobody making this show is good at it. This is the TV equivalent of an asset swap. Genuine 0, truly garbage.

How can anyone read these reviews and determine whether to watch or not with so many 1s and 10s and little in between?! It's very reminiscent of and has the rhythm of STNG. Patrick Stewart, showing his 80+ years, is one of almost ten EPs but also stars. Though he was run out of Starfleet, this is a very fawning treatment of Picard (and certainly by extension Patrick Stewart). I mean this show is designed to adore and deify him and that really takes away from its appeal. There's a large scale intergalactic story happening here, and as such with his hastily cobbled together rag-tag crew recalls the original Star Wars trilogy - there are definite similarities. A few more things I didn't like: there was a fight scene in ep3 that was just stupid with an unarmed Picard and other unarmed colleagues beating back an attack of armed/trained Romulans, so that was a scene-fail. The repeated treachery AND forgiveness of Agnes Jurati, then, the season finale was epic but feels like three episodes edited into one which kind of ruined it - seriously, key people die then are immediately resurrected with no complications/ill-effects, etc. Probably the biggest disappointment is that the predetermined protags-must-prevail trope was so obviously done just dispensing with any realistic conflict. The finale could've and should've been GREAT but it marched to a Disney-patented good-guys-prevail ending and then there's all of the social justice signaling/indoctrination which we're all just so over. I started to watch S02 but it's just more Picard fantasy porn. Other misc stuff, you'll see some of your favorite STNG characters return glad-handing Picard in good 'ole reunion style (so annoying), but they've aged and gotten fat. Expand

This just doesn't feel like Star Trek (neither does the awful Discovery). The cynic in me can't shake the feeling that the bad script writing here is not purely down to ineptitude. Sir Patrick, blink twice if you're being held hostage!

You have great actors, good ideas and very good production value. But they waste all this potential on cheap thrills, horrible values, extreme virtue signaling and mistakes in the storylines. Season two especially became so inane. They don't even pay off any of their own set-ups. It's so frustrating because I enjoyed the first half of both seasons, and then the conclusions of the storylines make no sense. They should not hire actors to have creative control over the stories, actors who have not watched Star Trek (and nor should they necessarily, they can be directed by people who know more). It's so disappointing and infuriating because there is so much potential here. It's modern Cynicism in a serialized form. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Picard" is not a bad show, and it has sometimes been excellent, but season 2 was a convoluted disappointment. The premiere season showed great promise and had some great moments and episodes, including the final Picard/Data meeting. But season 2 was an undercooked and overloaded failure, with character behavior and creative choices that offered surprises but ultimately made no sense. (Spoilers coming.)

Season 1 introduced some truly interesting characters into Picard's world, including many Romulans and Vulcans, and turning Seven of Nine into one of the most dynamic figures of any Star Trek series. And there was Cristóbal Rios, a strong enough character (and a fine actor) to carry his own Trek spinoff. So what kind of insanity led the creators of this show to close season 2 by basically marooning Rios in the past, where his story is already complete and (centuries later) he's inevitably deceased (from an old man's bar fight?) in the Picard timeline. His choice to stay behind is nonsensical. Suddenly this skilled pilot no longer wants to fly? Staying in the 21st century for him is like you and I choosing to live in the 18th century. Why not just bring his new family into the future?

The show's device of using actors in different roles when the crew goes back in time makes no real sense. The connection between the identical twins in different timelines is never explained. Other than some vague emotional effect on Picard himself, why are Laris and Tallinn identical? Coincidence? Are they related somehow? We never really find out, probably because it was never truly figured out.

The special effects and most production values are excellent. Some of the forced drama and emotional breakdowns between the main characters (Raffi, a season Starfleet officer, is often alarmingly irrational for no reason) undercuts and clutters up the storytelling. There's just too much to get into here. (Like the transformation of the Borg.).

Season 1 would get a deserved high rating from me, but Season 2 was ultimately such a washout that my overall rating is mixed.

Old Star Trek rewarded you for thinking critically. This show punishes you. The plot is nonsensical. The script is tacky--not in the campy TOS way, but more in the low-budget Sci-Fi Channel show from the mid-00s kind of way. This series is about poorly executed action, sappy emotional exchanges between characters, and trying to get the audience to say "hey I recognize that person from a different show!" In other words, the laziest kind of screenwriting.
I won't even fault Picard for not being like "old Trek." The franchise should evolve and change over time? Fine. No issues with that. But there's a lot of good TV out there right now, and this show is not anywhere near the same level as some of the other stuff you could be spending your time watching. But ultimately, you will watch. Why? Because Patrick Stewart is playing a guy that's ostensibly Jean-Luc Picard and you have no choice. Is this a better way for the character to go out than getting crushed by a catwalk? You decide.

There is no larger intention or meaning that connects this chaotic stream of consciousness. Its only purpose is the impulsive creation and satisfaction of lesser urges from moment to moment.

Just like a twitter timeline, this show is designed to be consumed an attention window of a few seconds. Otherwise, its lack of narrative structure becomes apparent and everything unravels. The show starts 25 different plots, all of them ridiculous and badly written, all of them full of faux emotion and faux meaning, and none of them conclude in any meaningful way, if they conclude at all.

Why name it Picard and use TNG Characters and lore would be my question. Also to be fair that TNG and DS9 started weaker too (but not on this low level to be fair). Lets go to the first elephant in the room. I will not enter the debate if this is even Star Trek anymore but say I can see the validity of the argument. I am still thinking this is set in a darker parallel timeline or universe as I do not recognize how things could develop like this. I mean Starfleet, the Federation, many characters and choices. For example I say the antagonist have valid reasons and this comes from someone who would fight for Data’s and the Doctors rights even putting his live on the line. Both are favorites of mine and are more human than many biological humans. Again to be fair I would also say this also if the roles were reversed. You could however argue about cause and effect. It ends not there as Picard would never have Sometimes I thought it reminds me of the dirtier more grubby Star Wars look. The character or performance is a bit mixed. Patrick Steward as Picard is amazing and even haters acknowledge this. Jeri Ryan as Seven is hindered by the script and this weakened her. I must say that I am a fan of her and Seven of Nine was the best addition to a cast I can think of. Isa Briones surprised me positively and I want to see more of her. Michelle Hurd as Raffi is also handicapped by the script. I can see her being truly awesome if they put more effort in the writing. The rest is fine but I repeat many established characters are mishandled and this leaves a sour taste. Overall this is a weak first season with some good moments. Expand

What a disaster. This show is propaganda, and it needs to be pulled off the air.

I've been taking notes on directors, writers, and actors over the years who take part in these social engineering / indoctrination productions. Everyone involved in this show is now added to my growing blacklist. Meaning, I will never watch anything with them in it ever again.

All tv shows, and movies are now being pre examined before I spend any time on them. I will be looking at cast members, reviews, and plots. One sniff of woke from people's opinions, and I will not watch it.

If it's rebooted, gender swapped, woke, feminist, racial swapped, pro woman / anti man, BLM supporting, anti LEO, anti American, pro communist, pro marxist, racist against white people, or any other form of this far left brainwashing count me out. I refuse to be bludgeoned by this S***. I will not be subjected to Hollywood's thought camp ever again. I strongly encourage all of you to stand very firm against this pernicious social cancer by doing your homework before you expose yourself, or anyone else for that matter to Hollywood's political agenda.

It takes a lot to piss me off, but destroying Star Trek is an unforgivable offense.

Season 1's writing was atrocious but I was willing to give them a pass because they were finding their footing. Season 2 makes season 1 look like fine literature. Four episodes in and this season is a trainwreck.

It is a piss poor copy of every "Mirror, Mirror" episode and a rehash of every 'fix the broken timeline' plotline they've used since Star Trek 4 hit theaters. There's zero originality in this effort and it shows. Instead, they use the series as a way to bludgeon the viewer with hyper-woke nonsense. In the third episode they hammer the audience over the head with their typical leftist ideologies regarding: Anti-capitalism, LGBTQ (lesbianism, specifically), illegal immigration and a typical 'ACAB' portrayal of law enforcement, homelessness, and climate change. In the first twenty minutes of the fourth episode, they invoke Nazism as a reference, repeat the anti-police message, double down with anti-American sentiment ('They make you pledge allegiance?'), and use Guinan to push BLM.

Due respect to Sir Patrick Stewart's body of work, his age is a problem. He's not acting so much as he's mumbling his lines and shuffling around the set. This show is trash. A woke leftists wet dream pretending to be Star Trek. It should be retired for good.

Q2: Wanna know why they made Picard emasculated, and gay?

This is the worst tv show I have ever seen. My gf wanted to watch this when she first heard about it before season 1. I knew it was going to be woke lecture trash. I was right.

Hollywoke is infested with this crap. Everything being produced out of Hollywoke these days is all following this same agenda platform. Women are STRONG, Men are WEAK, and that this is what progressive / inclusive equality looks like.

NOT... this is offensive like a backed up toilet. It's all over Picard. They're killing off all the male characters of the TNG legacy. Picard is a former ghost of himself. He's dead too.. don't you realize? He's just a senile apparition who follows the women around, and takes the verbal abuse like a beta cuc. We can't have a strong male character on TV these days. We gotta cut his bawls off, emancipate him, and tell him the future is female. KNOW YOUR PLACE YOU DISGUSTING PIG OF A MAN!

This show doesn't even try to hide the blatant politics. Men bad, women good. Women are super heroes, and the men must be destroyed at all costs. Send in the empowered feminists to save the day. I don't know about you, but turn this crap off, and tell all your trekkie friends that's it's woke garbage.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I will no longer watch ANYTHING Hollywoke has produced past 2010, and anything they will produce in the future. I'm officially boycotting that cesspit of diarrhea. I hate everything Hollywoke stands for. EVERYTHING. Time to cancel Hollywoke, and put this beast down.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried to give Picard a good chance. I really did. But after watching the 1st season (twice) and 3 episodes of the 2nd season, I can confirm this show is absolute garbage. Firstly, it is woke trash, it tries so hard to spew blatantly political talking points and in a very ham-fisted and obnoxious way.

Picard is not picard, and this show is not Star Trek. All the crew members talk down to Picard with disrespect as if he is a child. The show intentionally forces feminist female and lesbian characters down the audiences throat - females who exhibit no signs of true femininity or grace, but instead females who exhibit the most obnoxious, bone-headed and gruntish masculine traits. The show writes the women as arrogant, rude, crass, annoying, masculine men, while simultaneously attempting to bash the actual men. It really is so forced and ridiculous in a laughable way.

All the characters whine and complain, show zero competence or excellence in their positions. They run around complaining like children about their emotional baggage from childhood while they are supposed to be saving their crew-mates or the entire galaxy. The writers clearly think their target audience are all emotionally unstable victims of trauma. It overtly tries to paint straight white males as evil or bad, while trying to paint obnoxious, arrogant lesbian females as virtuous saints that we should try to be like. There are no good role models in this show, just angry, crass, rude, emotionally unstable children.

The writers and creators of Picard cannot create anything good or new, they can only ruin and destroy the good things that good people created before them.

Sad to see such a cornerstone of my childhood getting beaten down by people who either have no love for the franchise or actively dispose it.
I grit my teeth through the first season only to end up at the beginning of season 2 and realize that it's just not worth it. StarTrek was always an expression of optimism about the future and what it can hold but the series also made a point of showing that you should take a step back and figure out the best way to achieve your desired result. In this case I think the best way to move forward is to just sit back and wait for it to be canceled and transferred into the hands of someone who has some semblance of respect for what the franchise is, because this, this Hannibal Lecter wearing the face of the original is just disturbing

That said, everything else about this series was freaking terrible, the writing was awful the characters felt unreal in a bad way, and everything was an action scen. It's like the writers didn't know how to just write people in an extraordinary circumstance, everything had to be grandiose showy flashes of explosions and Michael Bay physics, vice you know, some of that, but mainly people wanted what they had before with Next Gen, maybe bumped up to the next notch but the way Picard was handled, both the character and the series itself is disrespectful, obnoxious, and feels like instead of expanding your mind and looking towards the future or at least a idealistic future, you just kind of see everyone and everything as dark, depressing, warped, and unlikable. I really wanted to like this show, but it was just absolutely horrible, and the way the writers wrote Picard himself and the way people approach him in show is distasteful and rude. I didn't like this show at all On a side note, I love how the ridiculous metacritic reviewers, the sanctioned, "official" ones give this sjo a 70+% rating and TNG arguably the best Star Trek made, the one that spawned both Deep Space 9 and Voyager a 40%. Lol these guys are literally ridiculous. It's like you have to read their reviews in reverse, the worse they rate something, chances are, the better is actually is. Lmao smh Expand

Yeah, we already know - women are strong and pull all of the strings, and men are weak and naive. Even JLP was portrayed as just a fool old man. Women version of equality.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Picard was supposed to be a love letter to fans of The Next Generation. In reality it is a massive slap in the face to those fans and fans of Voyager. Every established character is ruined by the worst writing in Star Trek history. Icheb is brutally murdered, 7 of 9 is turned into some kind of mercinary, Bruce Maddox is brutally murdered in cold blood and even Picard himself can't escape the wrath of Alex Kurtzman's desire to distance modern Trek from old Trek and is killed of then turned into an android.

Even the Federation is portrayed as a self serving xenophobic organisation. Which is something of theme in the Kurtzman era. The whole "story" revolves around Picard tracking down an android that houses Data's memories. Which is exactly as preposterous as it sounds. If you are a Star Trek fan avoid this at all costs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An absolutely shameful mess that should sink as soon as possible. The big disconnect between the "critics" and user reviews tells you all you need to know: Kurtzman and his entire entourage has no business working in the business, and "critics" are nothing but shills. And now that they have droidified Picard, they can keeping milking it with CGI long after he's gone. Not going to watch any more episodes, since every single one of the first season ones did nothing but destroy Trek. Shame on you, Mr. Stewart! Expand

Like Star Trek: Discovery, this show introduces a darker Federation and Star Trek universe with fantasy elements and this time space elves. Most of the characters are broken and hard to like, except for Rios. The writing is mostly soap opera level. This show really negates any personal development that Picard and Seven of Nine have made in previous shows. At least there are some nice guest appearances.

I love the idea that Star Trek puts forward. A future where humanity has or is striving to rise above our negative traits. Where there is no more currency and Earth is basically a paradise. Humanity is for the most part seeking to work together with all alien races for the betterment of all. This show is not at all that vision. This is Star Trek twisted into a GOT wannabe. The dialogue is stilted and character actions unbelievable. A character kills her husband and 20 minutes later everyone forgets and it is never thought about again. There are little glimpses of greatness especially when they bring back characters from TNG for a short cameo. But overall this is a terrible show something you would find on SyFy at 3AM Expand

Oh boy, this really is one that simply cannot be enjoyed if you have a functioning brain

Mystery box storytelling at its absolute worst - if you endure all 10 episodes and go back to episode 1, nothing anybody does makes any sense whatsoever in terms of what we since know to be their motivations and goals, it's all just in favour of drawing out having to reveal anything to the viewer (and even when it does, much like Discovery, there's no payoff because the endgame is either complete nonsense or has nothing to do with anything we've seen up to that point and so couldn't have been predicted or foreshadowed)

Characters flip allegiances for no reason and without hesitation, previous canon is constantly ignored or painfully misused, there's a whole Borg element to the story that serves literally no purpose besides being something recognisable with which to trick viewers into watching with, the climactic standoff is farcical and absolutely littered with the kind of meaningless platitudes that would embarrass even a cheap motivational poster - there's just so much nonsense and disregard for basic logic or storytelling

Expect the same incessant and misplaced melodrama of Discovery where the score tells you how to feel because the script is incapable of making any kind of audience connection, the same bastardisation of existing characters into their most laughable grimdark shadow versions (including Picard, who is now a confused old man who doesn't seem to know his own character traits and has regressed to crippling borg PTSD despite being entirely fine around them for multiple seasons of TNG and several movies since his Locutus experience), and all of the same "...but why?" responses to every new development and character decision

Throw in some insane cosmic coincidences that show yet again that NuTrek has no concept of how unfathomably huge space is and how many countless gazillions of individuals live in it, a plot ripped off almost directly from Mass Effect but without any of the logic or nuance to that story, and the obligatory sex and gore that shows how mature and adult the writers think they are, and you've got this mess of a show

I honestly don't know who this show is for - if you know anything about Star Trek, Picard is an infuriating and painful watch; if you don't, there's nothing here but empty spectacle and cliched nonsense that doesn't even make for good generic sci-fi Avoid

You'd think that if anyone were to complain, it would be us oldsters who were used to the earlier iterations, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The Picard series is poetic and visually beautiful. Jeff Russo's superb music adds tremendously to the experience-- the opening theme is one of the most exquisite pieces ever to grace a TV show, and the visual art that accompanies it is equally high in quality and emotional appeal.

Everything changes with the times. Star Trek, over half a century on, has also changed. If it hadn't, I bet these same folks would be complaining that it lacked originality.

Does not follow canon or give you any hope or inspiration for a better future! I grew up watching STO reruns as a teen in the early 70's, fell in love with the show on my first viewing, which happened to be arguably the best STO episode made The City on the Edge of Forever! I also grew to love ST TNG, ST DS9 as an adult and was ecstatic when we had our first female captain in Voyager. But the most gratifying was being able to sit down and watch Voyager with my children, seeing the joy and anticipation for the next episode, the hope for a better future through their eyes, sharing stories of people who were inspired into certain career fields by the show, it didn't get any better than that. Sadly, this is something you can't do with this show! To CBS, don't ever expect me or my family to watch/pay anything made by Kurtzman or with the Kelvan timeline. It's disgusting what you've allowed to happen to Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future & his legacy! The whole lot of you are a disgrace! Expand

Aren't those the things you think of when you think "Star Trek"? This is a show that wants you to think of it as a separate entity from TNG, but it leans so heavily on TNG references nostalgia for its minimal emotional pathos that it's impossible to judge it on its own merits - it must be judged as a sequel to TNG. On those grounds, it's an abject failure. The writing is awful, the pacing is schizophrenic, flipping from a snail's pace to warp speed and back again, characters are cardboard cutouts spouting profanity and hackneyed cliches, the violence is graphic and unpleasant, and the show is utterly without the wit or charm that made previous Star Trek series' so endearing. As far as the story goes, all kinds of plot threads are left hanging, not to set up future intrigue, but because the writers simply forgot about them or lost interest. A central, core plot point of the show - that Romulans hate AI and will destroy androids, and anyone researching AI or androids, on the spot is incoherent and contradicted by dozens of past Star Trek episodes, and the show asks you to have sympathy with a character who literally attempts genocide on the entire galaxy. I'm giving the show 3 instead of 0 because the production values are pretty good, and it was nice to see Picard have a nice dinner with Riker and Troi. Otherwise this is one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had over ten episodes of television. Avoid like the plague. Expand

The plot took great liberties to go to interesting venues. The plot was murky at times with the justification for the visit or why key characters are where they are.
However, it actually works. It is hard to follow, but the justification makes sense.
In the end though, the most important success is the theme. This was a ten episode morality story with action, and adventure. Picard, in the end, focuses on the question of what do you do when the organization you love, represented, and served fails you as it falls from its ideals.

It is answered in the middle of the series, but requires a few more episodes to SHOW it in action. "I allowed the perfect to become the enemy of the good."

That sentence summarizes the show quite well. We could hate it for a few plot holes that needed a couple sentences to address. Or we could be happy with all the other things it does so well.

I will just choose to be happy with it. It captured the core and themes I grew up with. And that good far outweighs the bad.

I actually thought Patrick Stewart was intelligent, not anymore. It just goes to show, how wonderful the writing was on ST TNG, it made him look good. My heart goes out to Gene, I can only image what he'd think if he were around to see this rubbish! I have missed him greatly since his passing, but not at this moment, I'm glad he's not around to see this abomination.
