This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve been a rabid fan of this franchise since the Original Series premiered in 1966, and I’ve appreciated Star Trek’s willingness to address issues that are contemporary to our own time.

That said, it appears that season two of Star Trek: Picard seems more concerned with virtue-signaling than with the story. For example, how does it advance the plot to portray a brutal, unprovoked ICE “raid” on a medical clinic (that never happens) or show Rios exchanging a “high-five” with an undocumented man who has just rendered an ICE agent unconscious?

I think we all know that this season’s plot line is in some disarray. Perhaps it would help to focus on storytelling, rather than checking off boxes intended to please the entertainment world’s elite.
