Now the past mistakes of the Federation backfire as much as their dogmas crippled them. They could avoided this years ago. Had they defeated the Cardassian Union in their first war this would not have happened nor would the Maquis exist. Had they interfered or sided with the Klingons this would not have happened. Would they have stopped the Dominion as early as their first fleet arrived, declared full scale war and blocked their access to the alpha quadrant they would have saved millions of life's and prevent the suffering of billions. It is their greatest weakness that they make problems worse by don't want to make harsh decisions. Remark: I am not for violent solutions. I say that you could stop treads of this caliber as soon as possible as history shows that appeasing them does not work. But back to the season: It shows the grim reality of wars, gray morality or hard decisions, political plots and compromises. The stories and character developments are excellent. Sadly it is the last season for a beloved character that I miss. There are many game changers and it is definitely worth watching. It has the best DS9 if not Star Trek episode with in the pale Moonlight” and introduces Section 31. Sadly the mirror universe episode is bad but many rate it as so bad it is good (I do not). I will give my recommendations with some small spoiler free descriptions. “ A time to Stand” as it show's the new status quo and foreshadows some later conflicts. “Rocks and Shoals” for the story and resolve that is engaging (and sad). “Favor of the Bold” and “Scarifies of the Angels” for the intense battle, story and many characters have to make harsh decisions. It has game changing events and are must see. “You are Cordially Invited” for a Klingon wedding, the humor and abstruse situation as much as for O’Brien and Bashir ;-). “Statistical Probabilities” for the newly introduced characters and the way they are used or integrated into the story. Cant go into details but it is one of the most interesting episodes of the show. “Waltz” This is Dukats episode and you get insights into him. Brilliant character study. “Far Beyond the Stars”. Excellent episode about doubts, racism and the will to continue even when everything is against you. This is how you handle serious issues and don't fall into traps or cliches. Newer Star Trek shows could have learned from this. “Honor among Thieves” This is some of the kind that is so sad that I would not rewatch it but also remarkable good. “Change of Hearth” for Worf and Dax as much as the true meaning of love. Siskos response at the end says everything. “Wrongs Darker than Death or Shadows” for giving an interesting backstory, Kira / Dukat and showing that lines are blurry if they even exist. “Inquisition” for the set up, story, reveal and introduction of section 31. A lot to think and talk about. Section 31 is maybe a necessary evil and one of the best additions to Star Trek lore ever. And now the best (and most controversial for some) episode of all (Star trek) times: “In the pale Moonlight” You can write books about this episode and its moralities and I have seen countless videos and had discussions about it. It is about morality, the price to pay for your values and hard but unavoidable choices. It reaches depth, complexity and understanding of grim situations other show's would avoid or can never reach. Universally praised and right so. Ask your self what would you scarifies to save your values and billions of lives. Excellent Sisko and Garak moments. Also Quarks telling of a certain rule of acquisition moment. “The Reckoning” for Winn, Kira and Sisko. Kiras final analysis is foreshadowing events later to come. “Valiant” Again they show something others shows mostly avoid. The two sides of heroism or the blurry line of it. I admit that I hated this episode in my youth but it has grown on me and is remarkable. “The Sound of her Voice” for the story, emotions and resolve. Warning: The resolve was close to bringing this to my most hated episodes list. I enjoed it a lot and apriciate the bold resolve (that breaks it for some). “Tears of the Prophets”. This is shocking and has a lot of impacts. The final recognition what is missing from Siskos table is all you need to know how grave the situation is.… Expand
