There is the often heard argument that DS9 gets really excellent once Worf was added to the cast. While season 3 was already really good I will agree with this statement. Worf was the best addition to a cast of Star Trek until Seven of Nine even outperformed him. But it is not only Worf. We got General Martok who is a deep and interesting character, more of Gowron for the Klingons and Damar for the Cardassians who will improve a lot later. Kasidy Yates and especially Michael Eddington become more depth as their arcs start to take momentum. Dukats arc is again a highlight. He is the best villain in Star Trek and you see why. He is the hero of his story and while having heroic qualities without a doubt he is a prisoner of his believes and world views (and maybe culture and society?). The Dominion arc gets even more interesting as does the stories for the Klingons and Maquis. We got again a good mirror episode and an enjoyable final with a big reveal. The two parter “Homefront” and “Paradise Lost” are a highlight of Star Trek and is an allegory seen in real life. This is why DS9 is considered as greatest Star Trek show. It asked really difficult moral questions and shows both sides. I see the values of both sides here and while I am on Siskos side I will ask myself if he is right and if there will be a price to pay. Short remark: The pregnancy of one character in this season was added by necessarity as it was the best they could do with this unexpected situation. So don't be surprised as Dukat about this ;-). There are a lot of recommendations in this season: “Way of the Warrior” both parts are excellent, Worf is added to the cast and we get one of the best space battles in Start Trek. It has also really harsh political impacts. “The Visitor” A heartwarming story about family, father and son that brings tears to my eyes. I cant spoil but this is an often forgotten highlight that should be remembered. “Indiscretion” for Dukat, Kira and Ziyal. I was impressed by the acting and character development. “Starship down” for Quark and Hanok as for Kira and Siskos arc. “Little Green Man” for the humor and ideas. Again a crime to spoil this but lets say you will get entertained ;-). “Homefront” and “Paradise Lost” are effectively a two parter. It has an interesting mystery to solve, lots of moral dilemmas, character developments and it is for you to decide who is right or wrong and what the price for freedom and liberty is. It is so good because it shows both sides and lets you know that no perfect solution exists. You will find real life equivalents and the most prominent was 9/11 (it was filmed years before that). “Return to Grace” again for Kira and Dukat. “Accession” for the moral dilemma and resolve. “Hard Time” for being so emotionally understandable being in this situation and a deep analysis of Miles O'Brien. “Shattered Mirror” Again an excellent and impactful mirror universe episode. Also mirror Worf and Garak. “For the Cause” for the plot and Michael Eddington. It starts an interesting story arc. “The Quickening” for the idea, problem handling and resolve. “Broken Link” The final episode has good twists, a game-changer and a shocking reveal. Also Odo and Garak are excellent here. Overall this is a remarkable season with lot of recommendation. As I said the statement that DS9 gets really good from here on is valid.… Expand
